OKAY, WINNER 09, I will hold you to that. I say Fairmont/mcw, Worthington, and marshall are the only teams that have more wins that losses in duals next year? Im just stating my opinion

Any idea of where team sections will be now that TMB/WWG left?
Marshall has nice facilities, hotels and restaurants, maybe as close to center of section as it gets.
That's a good idea. Do they have enough bleacher space and mat space to have 3 or 4 mats?
SMSU had the captain Dan invite there and it was pretty tight with 4 on the floor.

i think the one-sidedness would be awesome atmosphere for the team finals though.

Should our section go to a one day team tournament? Next question is where and how? Tracy was to host next year's final four. Obviously not now. Thoughts? One day? Two day? Where?

One day individual in worthington, or dawson?
Worthington has hosted several times I believe. The venue is not fan friendly. Sitting in the upper deck does not provide a very good view for parents and fans to watch the wrestlers. The railing makes it difficult to view the floor and all the mats unless you are near the top of the bleachers. And that is not always the best. Due to the limited lower level seating, Once the bleachers are pulled out, a mad rush begins by fans to secure a place to sit. Dawson has seating that is optimal and fan friendly. There is not a bad seat in the place. Luverne, Morris, New Ulm or New London would be also great selections. Unfortunately, I am not able to make an indication about Fairmont as I have not seen the facility.

And as far as a one-day tournament is concerned, that is a numbers game. Prior to making the recommendation or determination, the section would have to project individual match count for wrestlers that day.

I realize crucifixion is next, but when you ask a question and want a response, don't get grumpy/nasty when the answer is not to your liking.

It also takes in account people that want to actually run the tournament. Some AD's chose to not take on the responsibility.

I THINK It should be in one day. save every fan/coach/bus driver/wrestler all the time and money and just make it all one day. everybody weighs in once, at 730 am, wrestling starts at 9:00 am in dawson or Worthington? Have it voted on by the coaches? And the mshsl will give a one day allowance for match count (in which with so less teams and so many teams with forfeits, I highly doubt we would run into this, just in the true second matches). Makes it easier and more clearer for the casual fan, and clears up no confusion.

It would be nice if Marshal had a gym that was fan friendly to wrestling. They are the best choice of a "town". Maybe it could be at the college? I don't remember what the college gym is like.

Too bad Dawson doesn't have more parking, I like their gym.

Morris has a nice gym, but they are not centrally located.

DAWSON is a good centralized location. And look no matter where the venue is at, you are still going to have teams travel 2+ hours no matter who hosts it. If I remember right they use to host the final 4 team 12-15 years ago, and it was a great venue, and they have done a great job of hosting the individual tournament in years past as well. They would be second on my list, besides Worthington. Or have it like some NCAA teams do. whoever wins the section in the previous year, gets to host the individuals the following year. Just a thought.

Dawson is a poor choice because of hotels. Lack of hotels. It is not anything close to convenient when you still have to stay 20 minutes away from the site. They have the gym, but zero accommodations for teams. Redwood is actually the best, sort of central location because they have the gym, hotels, restaurants and other accommodations that make them better than most. I know, they get to host a lot of events, but for ease of the tournament, they are the best venue.

You are crazy to think Dawson is anywhere central. Poor choice for location and accommodations. The gym is cool, and they do a decent job that's about it.

Guessing skin checks and weigh ins are somewhere around 7-8am. Add in a 2-3 hour drive. I'm guessing a team wouldn't want to leave at 4am for sections.

Only effects a few teams but those teams still have 0 options for hotels in Dawson.

I wouldn't mind seeing Fairmont or New Ulm get it for something different instead of always being in Dawson or Redwood.

Adam how about Fairmont? It isn't central but you guys would have the other accommodations needed. Have you guys ever put in for 3AA or hosted in 2AA?

A good point was brought up regarding need for hotels for a one day tournament. I suppose some clubs could like to save their kids some road time if possible.

Fairmont has a unique gym as you come in you go down the bleachers from the top. Very cool!

Back in Region 2A days, we wrestled a couple times in Sherburn. 3 mats with circles just inside the end walls. Like at St James. Got a little rough going out of bounds.

At Jackson, got to wrestle in OLD high school once, gym floor was stage for auditorium. 2 decks of people on North and bleachers to south.

Some of those small gyms were the best!

News flash. No matter what town the sections are going to be held at, someone is going to have to drive 2+ hours. Or else have weigh ins at 8, skin checks at 8:30, and wrestling start at 9. If you think about it, if almost all classes will have 8 man brackets or less, there will be a lot less matches overall, and with not many breaks in the action. wrestling could be all said and done around 6-7pm

Have to follow the MSHSL guidelines on start times and wait times. Not as simple as you think. Can't make it like a regular tournament.

We would love to do it in Fairmont. The problem is, It's built for basketball. There's room for three courts wide but not three mats end to end. We could do 4 mats, but then only have one side of the bleachers down since you have to walk down into the gym when you come in. I don't believe it is enough seating and I don't want it to be a sore spot for people. When we could go down to 2 mats it would be great because with both bleachers out and two mats, it is a rocking gym with great seating. It's great gym for team and we're trying for that, just not big enough for a big individual tournament.

It's good to be back in 3AA. I have not been in all of the southern school gyms, but of the northern half, Redwood Falls is the logical choice. Not as much hotel and restaurant choices as Marshall, but a much better Gym.
New London and Morris are close seconds. Plenty of eating and hotel space, and nice gyms, but at the outside of the section borders.
As I look into 3AA again, don't count out MAHACA. I believe we will finish at or above .500 again next year. We should be able to beat United and New London again as we did this year. My initial thought was a 6 seed, but the more I research into it, I believe we could go as high as 4, possibly 3 seed. (three would be a stretch)

Too early to tell. Good luck to everyone in their spring seasons, offseason and summer. Time to train, lift, go to camps, and improve. Champions are not made just during the season.
