How about ranked wrestlers for this section? How many kids have a strong chance at placing at state and at what weights?

How many kids have a strong chance at placing at state and at what weights?

Some of the more obvious ones, guessing on weights....
Vagle and Simmonds if they can make106
Rohman 113-Champ
Prunty 126-Finalist
Wolter 126
Ringnell 132
Anderson 138-Top 3
Howk 138- Top 3
Ranweiler 145
Mortenson 160
Stark-160
Steuber guessing he will go 182 to avoid PK-Champ

Who else that may fly under the radar?

I would agree with this. I think that Mortensen could be a finalist as well, definitely a top 3 placer.

Class AA was way off last year too. It's way too early though anyway.

I give a lot of credit to someone who puts the time in to do the ratings, but seriously, kids that place 5th and 6th in the section rated in the top 10 in the state. Wow, and 3AA isn't really the toughest section either. Whatever happened to proving yourself first? Two kids that should be condsidered and probably will be around 113 or 120 are:

Blake Vagel - New London/Spicer - Section champion 34-6, went 1-2 at state
Hsa La EH - Marshall - Section champion 35-9

The way it looks Fairmont/MCW should be rated #1 as a team. They have more rated kids than Kason/Mantorville and Simley ;)

It is obviously just a scenario where the F/MCW coach sent in all of his wrestlers with quite a bit of information on each wrestler. Not agreeing with the rankings by any means. But without coaches input the Rankings Editor would spend days upon days looking through results and previous rankings. Without any head to head matches in the 17-18 season coaches inout is the only information that he has to go off of.

The end of the season will show the true rankings for the kids of 3AA. Let's hope we all have a good showing against our competition around the state and can make some noise in the team competition this year at state whoever makes it from 3AA. Good luck to all programs. Time to start the grind!! Let's go!

If you ask any kid who has been a part of a state qualifying team and qualified individually they will say team.
For those who are on a team with no real shot to make it as a team, they will say individual.

I think the ones who are good enough to make it individually but are stuck on bad teams would say being on a good team/having the shot to make it to state on a team outweighs individual accomplishments. That's how it was for me anyway.

United and New London/Spicer at Wabasso/RRC in Lamberton tonight. Be interesting to see lineups for these teams.

I believe United and New London are in Montevideo tonight for a quad with United, NL-S, TMB/WWG, and Minnewaska.

Saw Mortensen was at 182 for both matches against Tracy and New London. This could shake things up a little in the upper weights if he is going 170 or 182.

Red Bulls won the Dick Maher today!!!handily. They'll be hard to beat this year. Missing a couple starters and still ran away with it. Impressive

Did Section 3AA change to an individual tournament format to determine the state qualifier for team state?

And they only have 2 seniors in the starting lineup by the looks of it. Wow, they will be tough the next few years.

After the first week of competition it definitely looks like F/MCW is the front runner for the section. Pretty impressive showing at the Blue Earth Tournament. Their talent down low is going to be hard to match. Looks like they do have a few holes in the middle-upper weights that some teams will need to capitalize on if they are going to take them out.

Any big upsets from section 3AA over the weekend?

Not a big upset to us who know him, but Ethan Lebrija (Morris) over two 3AA opponents Friday. One of which was Blake Vagle of NLS. Ethan was the 113 champion at the BBE tourney.

There were other 3AA matchups Friday, but that one sticks out in my memory.
