He can beat anyone in the State when he's in attack mode. Most polished 8th grader I've seen at the neutral position. Already took down a top 5 guy three times in one period to pin him on the last one. Watch out.

Did you watch Rohman as an 8th grader last year?

Should be an interesting tri in Dawson tomorrow. United, RWRV and MAHACA. I think this should set the 2,3 and 4 seeds in the North. MAHACA has been wrestling really well, they might have a chance to sweep. I think United should be favored of the 3 teams, but I think MAHACA matches up pretty well with them in a dual. I think all 3 duals should pretty good.

I think they are a good team that is a big favorite to win the section. It's not really a big secret either.

I would disagree. I don't think that F/MCW is a big secret to anyone in section 3AA. But to the rest of that state I think they could really surprise some people. They have definitely flown under the radar for a team with a top 8 showing at the Rumble and a dominant performance winning the Redwood Riot. Have they even had a close dual yet this year? I sure couldn't find one from the results.

I am pretty sure that everyone in the state that follows wrestling is aware that the Redbulls are pretty good. They are rated 12th. I think next rankings they may jump to 7th or 8th and I predict they will get seeded 5th. I don't see TG, Grand Rapids, or whoever comes out of 4 getting seeded. I don't see any of the teams in 2AA, 1AA, and 6AA that are rated ahead of them dropping. They are good and good for them. It isn't a problem to me that they are proud and keep posting, but we get it.

It would take a major catastrophe for the Redbulls not to win this section this year. I believe they should end up #6 behind Perham and Foley. In my opinion however, I have them at #5 behind K-M, Simley, Scott West and Perham. I don't think Foley is as good as their ranking this year.

MAHACA has a chance to sweep tomorrow night, but they also have a chance to loose both. They will need to win 5 of the first 6 weights against United and at least 4 of the first 6 against RRV. That plus the "almost" automatic wins by Cardwell and Wevely gives them a real shot.

Right, I guess I was thinking actual ranking more than state seeding.

Well, MAHACA got swept. Didn't wrestle well at all, but credit goes to RRV and United. RRV seemed to be improved since I saw them early in the year. I hadn't personally seen United. I knew they were good, but thought we could win a couple matches that we didn't. One of those we should have, but that still wouldn't have been enough. They are better than I thought. If things go their way, they might make it tough on Marshall. I was impressed with the physicality and aggression they wrestle with. Very good team from top to bottom.

Nine point swing at 120 hurt for both matches. Seven point swing from what I expected at 220 against RRV hurt, and Mortenson making it down to 170 hurt us a bit against United.

MAHACA did look very flat compared to previous outings, but I'll give United and RRV credit for bringing their "A" Game. Which may be what made us look flat.

Edit: I guess the 9 point swing was at 126 against RRV

Should be a good weekend of 3AA wrestling this weekend at the Big South Tournament. New Ulm, Marshall, Worthington F/MCW, and Luverne all competing from 3AA. Then throw in teams like Pipestone, JCC, Windom and St. Peter and it should be a very competitive tournament all around!

I don’t know how good of a wrestler your 126 lb’r is but you have definitely overlooked Goblirsch from RRV to think that match should have been a gimme for MAHACA. I have seen Goblirsch wrestle enough to say he is very talented and strong for his age and always wrestles tough.

I think he beat him earlier, and was leading the match when he got caught. Not trying to take anything away from Goblirsch, I know how good he is.

I can tell you that United vs. ACGC came down to HWT, with United winning the title. After losing to Minneota in the first round 34-33, MAHACA came back and defeated Minneota in the third place match. IT was 33-33 and came down to criteria. Something like most 1st match points scored. I don't remember results typically being posted for this tournament.

Looking at this years teams in 3AA, there is a lot of young talent that is doing well. Also with Redwood-River Valley placing 6th last year at 9th grade league state, as well as some strong 9th grade teams in United and MAHACA, it looks like 3AA might be pretty competitive in the team race in 2 years.

Everyone should look at the section teams this year and note that there are not a lot of teams with older depth that we have seen in the past. Whoever can keep the kids together will be the team to beat in the future. Even F/MCW has minimal graduation hits. It will be fun to watch the teams grow.

Fairmont/mcw just won the region 1 9th grade leaugue individual tournament title sending 6 to the state tournament. None of them are varsity kids yet either. They only lose three seniors and the young guys keep coming up ready. Fairmont/ mcw faces Worthington Thursday in Sherburn to decide #1 in the south half.

I think the point both are making is that 3AA will have some real exciting team races in the future, not to mention a bunch of tough individuals.

We are only a month away from tournament time. Most everyone should be down to their tournament weights, with that being said anyone want to take a stab at the top 2 or 3 at each weight?
