Rod, If a wrestler comes to his feet and the wrestler in control puts a leg in to mat return him is it an automatic stalling. I realize if he stays on his feet longer than a few seconds it's stalling or if he does it and lifts other leg up to get a potentially dangerous its stalling. I have seen as soon as our guy puts his leg in on the feet and mat returns it is called stalling, even though he uses it to mat return right away. By no means stalling because of amount of time on the feet, they say only because he puts leg in to mat return. Why would using the leg to mat return be an automatic stalling if he uses it to mat return? Thanks Dan |

no it should not be an automatic stall call. The first 1 or 2 would be considered potentially dangerous if after putting in the leg he doesn't have support of another leg. And then after that it would be called stalling. idea being want to avoid someone putting in the legs to get a PD call to get out of the situation. Putting in legs and returning to the mat quickly is still a return to the mat. So basically think of if couple of PD calls happen then the next legs will be stalling vs PD call. If he returns quickly and no PD call is needed then no stall call is needed. Hope that makes sense Rod Rule 7.6.1 Article 6 states it is stalling when either wrestler repeatedly creates a stalemate situation to prevent an opponent from scoring (PD fall under this category as well). Rule 7.6.1 from the case book talks about a similar situation however almost all coaches will be surprised about who would get called for stalling in this scenario. Note below it talks about PD calls then for 1st and possibly 2nd call then on the 3rd call automatically stall call. Pay attention to who gets called for stalling in this situation. This situation the legs are already in and the bottom wrestler stands up. slightly different then your situation as you talk about putting the legs in after wrestler stands up While down on the mat Wrestler A who is in control applies a grapevine to wrestler B's leg and at that time B stands bearing all the weight of A. The referee stops the match immediately because of the PD situation. Ruling, the first time this situation occurs it would be a PD and match restarted. 2nd time it is PD anc could consider making a stall call on the bottom wrestler B. The 3rd time it is called the is no question that it would be considered stalling on wrestler B (Bottom wrestler) Coaches are shocked with who gets called but it is written exactly as described above from the case book. The bottom wrestler is standing up to get a PD call instead of trying to get away thus not wrestling aggressively. In your situation above you didn't mention any PD call's and it sounds like your situation the top wrestler was bearing his own weight and immediately used the legs as a breakdown? If the top man were to put the legs in and do nothing then you would call stalling after the 2nd or 3rd time. If the top man were to put the legs in and then hop off of his other foot on to the back of bottom wrestler to force a PD then after the 2nd or 3rd time it would be called stalling. Hope that helps.
