When does injury time start? If the ref calls for it to start before the trainer gets there does it start over when he/she arrives? |

Depend on the tournament. If it is a big tourney like Clash, Christmas tourney, Sections, State tourney if trainor is needed typically they wait until the trainor arrives. If trainer is not needed then it will start immediately on the injury. Normal dual it will start right away. Edited by WrestlingOfficial, Jan 15 2017, 08:23 PM.

Injury time should start as soon as the referee stops the match because of an alleged injury. It has nothing to do with a trainer, coach or doctor. When or if an official believes an injury has occurred because the wrestler's behavior or vocalization requires the official to stop the match, he should start injury time. Officials are constantly misinterpreting the rule when they ask the wrestler if he is injured. If a wrestler squeals or grasps a body part in apparent pain or injury, and the match is stopped because of his/her action, the referee should start injury time immediately. The only reason the was stopped was because the wrestler indicated he was hurt. |

Sorry KodiakCoach not here in MN. We give the kid more time if a trainer is needed at the bigger tournaments including section and state tournaments. How often do you see a kid stop wrestling because he was poked in the eye would you start injury time then immediately? Edited by WrestlingOfficial, Jan 16 2017, 07:11 AM.

An accidental poke in the eye is an exception I'll grant (however, it could also be deemed recovery time from an illegal action which doesn't count as injury time). The national rule states there is a maximum amount of time and number of time outs for injuries. If a kid is injured (or demonstrates he is injured), by waiting until the trainer shows up to attend the official is (or may be) giving that wrestler more time than the rule book allows. I understand that the MSHSL may choose to enforce the rules differently and the officials could be required to follow the state's guidelines rather than the national rules. I don't understand the discrepancy and who makes the call. Is it the referee who determines that a trainer is necessary and therefore doesn't start the clock or is it the coach who asks for a trainer in which the clock should start over once the trainer shows up? |

The size of the venue would be a significant factor. In every dual the trainer is right there near the mat. In every tournament in a high school gym the trainer/s is/are present and relatively close to every mat. But at some larger venues that sometimes may not be the case, they usually are accessible to all mats in a very quick amount of time, but not as accessible as in a high school gym. So it isn't fair to the wrestler to have injury time expire after 1:00 minute before a trainer can even reach the mat. Edited by mndak, Jan 17 2017, 02:43 PM.
