Wrestler A has wrestler B in a legal headlock.... As wrestler A is attempting to tighten it up and circle towards the head, wrestler B being flexible enough jumps his feet over his head cutting off his airway... Wrestler A still has a very legal headlock on he was settling in and bringing the shoulders the last little way down that was needed but, Ref stops and calls Potentially Dangerous, awards 3 near fall, is this correct? When asked if the headlock was still legal ref said yes... wrestler B willingly put himself in that position it was nothing wrestler A did... |

The referee's number 1 responsibility is safety. Even though wrestler B put himself in this predicament he probably has no way of getting out of it. If he was having his air cutoff and could get it out of it by himself I trust that he would. Survival tactics kick in and outweigh anyone trying to scheme to a PD call to get off of their back. This is no different than the kid that tries to scramble out of a single leg and ends up bending his leg into 100 different angles. He may have put himself there but probably can't get back out of it and as a referee we need to protect that kid from injury. |
