Is an assistant varsity coach allowed to coach at a k-8 tournament?

I don't see why not. Nothing in the rule book around that. Often times those guys have sons in the youth program.

How about coaching at USA Cadets/Juniors tournaments?Thought there was a rule about coaching varsity wrestlers outside of reg season. Just don't want to break any rules.

I don't know how well it is enforced but you cannot coach members of your High School team outside of the High School season(MSHSL rules). If the 7/8 graders were not on your hs team, no worries

With a couple exceptions:
You may coach your own child regardless and during the summer waiver period.

During the school year, prior to and following
the high school sports season:
A. Coaches shall not infl uence or direct a student
to participate as a member of a team or as an
individual competitor in a non-school league,
camp, clinic, or to take private or group
instruction or lessons.
B. A student who has been a member of a
high school team (B-squad, junior varsity or
varsity) may not receive coaching, training
or private lessons from a salaried or nonsalaried
member of the school’s sophomore,
B-squad, junior varsity or varsity coaching
staff in that sport.
3. During the summer vacation period:
During the summer vacation period, member schools
may waive “2-B” above and permit students to
receive coaching from a member of the high school
staff under the provisions of the summer coaching
waiver. Contact your athletic director for additional
information.
