Totally sucks for these wrestlers & wrestling overall yet totally expected from Iran.

Reminiscent of 1980 & 1984 boycotts ......

Bad deal all around.

I would have to disagree. Boycotting is a choice to not attend. Iran flat out stated that we can't attend. Big difference.

In my petition to the UWW, they need to act to strip Iran from hosting. Who is Iran to deny anyone from competing in a UWW event? Now if Iran does not want the US to attend they can simply forfeit hosting the cup and UWW can find a venue, then the Iranians are free to boycott and not attend.

Point taken. I said reminiscent due to the political overtones.
Clearly, not a boycott...........

I commend you for starting the petition.

I think it is a quick way to gather us common folk's voice. I hope it proves useful.

with only two weeks to go ? ...Countries have already arranged/paid for Visa's, travel, etc. so I'm afraid it might be too late ?? ...this is a sad and unfortunate consequence of politics....good luck with the petition...

cancel or postpone. It can be done. If God willing struck Tehran tomorrow with a devastating earthquake it would be canceled or postponed. Bottom line here is yes, it would suck, yes it would be a pain and disappointment, but whose fault would it be? Continuing at this point awards the Iranians and any other country the opportunity to do this kind of thing again and any sport. For the greater good cancel and do it at a later date elsewhere.

Every action has an equal or opposite reaction. Without getting to political, In a global economy/political environment any limitations/restrictions on any foreign countries will only be met with limitations/restricts on you.

I am keeping the politics out of it. Wrestling was never part of that discourse. The Iranians chose to use wrestling as a weapon. Your thoughts of current president are irrelevant. Using sport in this manner is unacceptable. Boycott if you wish but to ban is not condoned.

How can you keep politics out of a situation that is 100% political?

Those aren't my thoughts on the current president, that is how the world works. It has been like that since the beginning of time.

The Iranians shouldn't use sport as a political tool, but they have.

Agree that is why the proper action is postpone to a later date and in a neutral venue. If the Iranians do not accept they can boycott and pound salt until the end of time.

If you want to keep these types politics out of it then this is what must take place. To allow this to go on set a bad precedence for future competitions in any sport. Time to act now and act swiftly.

My kid is heading overseas to wrestle next month in Europe and honestly I was feeling uneasy when I agreed to send him and I am more apprehensive now.

U.S.A. is allowed back in by the Iranians. However I wouldn't get too excited yet, with the increased tension between the two countries anything can happen.
