Frank Molinarro got completely jobbed by the UWW officials in the match against Russia. Does a monkey roll and they give the points to Russia. The guy grabs his singlet and no point. Not to mention Frank Chased him all match and they never put the Russian on the Shot clock. UWW is so corrupt, when will it stop? |

James Green looks good with an 8-6 win. Team score is tied at 8-8 and Burroughs takes the mat against Sanakoev. |

Just a few observations: Ramos is looking better now that he is back down to 57kg, but was really no match for his Russian opponent. Logan Steiber is competing well and showing some creativity. I would love it if he could tighten up his defense a little. Very exciting to watch and always attacking. Frank the tank got screwed over in so many ways in this match. They gave the russian a caution 2 as Frank scrambled on his feet with his opponent behind him working a mat return. He never stepped out and got away without being taken down. Not sure what the deal is. Then they give his monkey roll points to the other guy and never penalize the Russian for grabbing his singlet. James Green is looking impressive on his feet with great leg attacks. He relaxed on top and got reversed and turned in a leg lace as time was running out in the 1st or he might have gotten teched. It appears that Burroughs has gotten his grove back! The excitement and respect the Iranian fans show him is pretty amazing. They all pull their phones out to take pictures of him and videotape his matches. He got a standing ovation after his match against Russia. David Taylor was a huge key to victory against Russia. The big fella must of cut a lot, as he was done after hitting a nice double on Taylor. Taylor responded by rattling off 14 points to get the tech. Kyle Snyder is looking good as ever on his feet. I can't figure out why he will never attempt any turns on top. Is he just saving his energy? Zach Rey had a nice win, but as always is very boring to watch. Can't say enough about the Iranian fans. They are very knowledgeable and love the spot. It is entertaining to listen to the drums and horns as they chant IRAN! |

USA wins 20-14 over Azerbaijan. Ramos lost a close 3-2 match with the same theme as the last match. Hitting many single legs and not being able to finish. Logan steiber started the match off by getting headlocked, but rolled through and parlayed that into 4 trap arm guts to lead 12-4. He has the best trap arm gut I have seen. Logie bear held on to win a tight match 12-11. Frank Molineromhad his typical close controversial loss 4-1. He needs to separate himself and take the control out of the officials hands. James green blew through his opponent running a blast double clinic 10-0! His style is perfect for freestyle! Burroughs fell behind 4-0 after getting countered on his own shot. He was wrestling SULEYMANOV, who Mark Hall had a close match with at jr worlds. SULEYMANOV Was very cheap and chippy like when he wrestled hall(mark beat him in the semi finals of jr worlds). He ran out of gas and Jordan racked up a few push outs and shot clock points. SULEYMANOV Failed to return to the center when the score was 5-4 and was disqualified. David Taylor looked great scoringing john smith style single leg takedown to both sides to rack up a 12-2 tech fall. Kyle Snyder wrestled a very good match and just got beat at the end. He was up 4-1 when he was taken down in a high c off the mat for 4. He could not score in the last 15 seconds to win but it did lock up the dual. The Gwiz took the mat at 125 and lost 3-1. I think he is still getting used to international wrestling. Great match and humbling to listen to the Iranian fans chant "Jordan" over and over again. The horn blew and blew 5 times followed by "Jordan" instead of their standard call of "Iran". They cheered on the United States all dual and I'm sure they are excited as we are to see USA vs Iran! Dual starts at 8:45am I believe. Edited by Bluntman, Feb 17 2017, 02:45 AM.

Snyder with a solid 6-0 win to put the dual at 13-13. It all comes down to 125kg. Looks like the Gwiz is taking the mat. |

Frank had his match as he was up 4-0 at one point, which would have won the dual, but he couldn't defend the underhook and lost 5-4. Impressive showing by the US nonetheless, fun to watch! |

I just want to throw in my $0.02 that this World Cup format, and the crowds, were excellent. As fans we talk about growing the sport, and there you have it. Though it was only a few years ago that wrestling had to fight to not get booted from the Olympic program, imagine if it could add team competition like this -- individual rounds first, then the team tournament starting a few days later. I'd watch it. There would be match-ups to hype, and stories to tell... |

Iran is so powerful with the underhook. I wish it was used more of offense, but very tough to defend anyway. David Taylor finally found a way around the underhook once the champ got tired. |

Agreed, a lot of people like dual tournaments! It's easy to follow as fans. I think we need to do away with criteria and move to overtime. Overtime is the best thing about folkstyle! While we are at it, lets add a few more weight classes! Edited by Bluntman, Feb 17 2017, 01:02 PM.

Bluntman were you able to watch the world cup? I was only following along on the best I can and couldn't watch each match so can only make speculations. But I felt like USA wrestlers were put on the shot clock more frequently? I understand how guys get put on the shot clock, or is this just social media making it seem like USA was on shot clock more? |

They were on the shot clock more. It is very subjective and the guy who controls the center will not be put on the clock. I don't really like this system as teams like Iran will just underhook, push and control the center rather than trying to create offensive attacks with shots and such. Our guys are used to the folkstyle system where the non offensive wrestler gets warned for not being offensive rather than being warned for not being in the center. |

That is what I was assuming with regards to Iran and USA being put on the shot clock just didn't know for sure. Thanks for clarifying that and by what it sounded that is how Green lost if im not mistaken was not being able to get by the underhooks and getting put on the clock. I like the shot clcok and forcing action, wish there was a better system for it. But it is what it is. |
