Sam Stuhl decommitted to SDSU today. This is unfortunate for the Jacks, wonder where he lands.

Very fun win for SDSU tonight over a tough Central Michigan team coming off a great performance at CKLV. Macki seems to have made some strides.

Great win for the Jacks! Not trying to focus on a negative but I can’t get over how cavalier some of the fans were matside jumping on the mat during the match. Especially during the HWT match.....fans were practically in the circle at certain points. That could come back and bite them in the a** with some refs.

I agree it is inappropriate for fans to be on the mat, but is there any precedent for a ref penalizing a team because of crowd antics?

I just watched the Macki match

1. Good match by Macki. Loved the hustle back to the center. Looked way more conditioned than the other guy. Great fight and great win. I have heard he works hard in the practice room and I have no doubt.

2. I saw one guy fan that was likely on the mat too far. Yes, he should be told, as all fans should, to stay off the mat, but he was never that close to the action. I don't think he was ever within three feet of the circle (but, to be clear, he should never have been on the mat, and maybe my judgment of distance is wrong).

3. [was going to say some critical things about Macki's ability, but I'll just keep it to myself tonight]

Macki’s match was a lot of fun, for a guy that only weighs 230lbs he has a lot fight, he was out weighed tonight by 35lbs, he wrestled hard and smart tonight

Had a few fans on the mat during the MN dual as well. I don’t think there is any place for that. A fan being on a basketball court or a football field gets you a ticket home. Should be the same for a wrestling mat.

Although I have never heard this being called but it is the Home Team's Responsibility to ensure that the "Reserved Zone" is clear. So I guess technically it could be called an infraction on the home team if it were their fans within that "Reserved Zone" controlled area.

From the 2017-18 NCAA Wrestling Rule Book
Section 3. Mat Setup
Art. 1. Mat Setup. No obstruction such as tables, bleachers, competitor seating
or walls shall be placed closer than 5 feet from the edge of the competition
circle. It is recommended, whenever possible, that all obstructions be placed
not closer than 8 feet from the edge of the competition circle. When two
mats are side-by-side, there shall be at least 5 feet of matted area between the
two competition circles. (See Diagram 2 at the end of Rule 1.) For dual meets
in which the coaches' chairs are placed on the corner of the mat, the 8-foot
tournament reserved zone in Rule 1.3.3 also applies.
Art. 2. Reserved and Restricted Zones — Dual Meets. The reserved zone shall
extend from the player/coach bench area to the edge of, but not on, the
wrestling mat. The restricted zone during dual meets is the entire wrestling mat
area and the area directly in front of the scorer's table extending to the edge of
the wrestling mat. (See Diagram 3 at the end of Rule 1.)

I have matside seats and I know all of the others that do also. There was one person that got so excited during the HWT match that he stepped up onto the mat. Watch the HWT match on Flo and you can see him. He doesn't interfere with anything and it was a nothing moment in the scheme of things. The seating itself is well within the criteria of the rules. Overall, it is not a regular thing and considering the atmosphere in there at the time, it was pretty hard not to get overly excited. That was a great moment for Macki. Kid was never built to be a heavyweight, but is doing what he can for the team. If you know him personally, like those of us that sit matside, you know how big that moment was for him.

One time is too many, this isn't a little league dual, it's a college dual and it's clearly a mat violation. I watched the dual streamed live on Flo on Friday and if my memory serves me correctly (all be it it's mostly the same individual) fans where on the mat for Macki, Zilverberg, Kocer and Gross's matches. I wish this sight would let me insert a picture and you can see how the rule book has it setup for a dual meet and this is right on the boarder of being incorrect. I fully understand that it's an electrifying atmosphere and people are excited but they still have no business stepping on the mat period.

......and this is the response I fully expected to get. Something awesome happens, but you will focus on the one little negative thing you can find to suck some joy out of it. Side note, I showed my post to an office mate when I made it and made a bet that it would be followed by a negative comment. I should have bet more.

I really don't know how you think this was a negative post but it's OK to have your opinion.
The bottom line is purchasing a mat-side ticket does not in anyway grant you or anyone else the right to be stepping within the reserved zone and especially on to the mat. Someday there's potential to cause an incident if that type of behavior is allowed to continue. Just my view point.

On a more positive note. The atmosphere was absolutely electrifying. Mike Smith from Matshots, got some great photos. These two in particular pretty much some up the whole place. It was pretty awesome for Macki.

Fans should never be on the mat. Don’t care the circumstances. If you can’t contain yourself from running on the mat then you shouldn’t be allowed a mat side seat.

He wasn't close to being inside the circle. The guy was nowhere close to the action.

Lighten up. Some of you are way too serious.

The atmosphere there for a dual against a non Big10 school was electric and awesome. Something that I wish was elsewhere. How was the atmosphere for Minny against Fresno State on Sunday?

I am all for great atmosphere it's awesome. But where do you draw the line???? If you don't stop it now then next time there's 4 people than 6 people. You can have a great atmosphere without crossing the line.

No one is disputing the great environment.

Would the environment still be great if people did not step on the mat? I like to think the answer is yes.

We are talking about rules. Not environment.

Put a rope up that says all jumping beans must stay behind line.

A lot of fans lose their minds when one of the Brands does something like this. Yet a fan gets a pass cuz of an environment? Again this isn’t the first time either.

Disappointing finish for Rotert.
I never quite know how to feel about Rotert. He wins great matches sometimes, but he'll also take the odd bad loss every now and then and that limits his success in tournaments. Sometimes I think he's overrated but, if nothing else, he's super tough and he does a lot of good for the team. Does anyone know how he's doing? he seemed to injure his knee at the end of his consolation semi-final and he didn't come out for his 3rd place match. it's looked like a joint thing but he seemed to do fine afterwords.

I think his body is somewhat broken down. The injury to his hands isn’t helping. He showed much more power earlier in his career.

As I've mentioned before, last year had nothing to do with peaking early and had everything to do with him getting injured.

Solid win today, almost everyone did better than they were supposed to. I was looking forward to Carlson winning that match but he proved that he has the ability to and Zilverberg didn't seem himself, but I was super happy with everyone else. It was good to see Rotert come back with a solid win and Pohlmeyer wrestled a great match beating a guy who pinned him at midlands.
