If that’s the case, Peterson and Garrett Jordan will likely man 165 and 174. |

He's obviously a great wrestler, but I really believe that he found the right match at SDSU. They made him into the best version of himself. I don't know if he is the same wrestler if he goes anywhere else. Great job to this warrior of a wrestler and the gridiron that is SDSU wrestling. |

Looking back, it was not a great year for Recruits from Minnesota. Only 8 were ranked in the top 200. Still hard to believe none of them were all Americans but Luke Zilverberg was. 18 Jake Short 23 Nick Wanzek 38 Broc Berge 60 Mitch Bengtson 105 Daniel Woiwor 166 Kyle Gliva 173 Tommy Peterson 181 Cole Sladek |

He filled out quite a bit since high school. Going from 138 in high school to 157/165 in college. That probably helped quite a bit. His dad is also an amazing coach. There have been multiple College AA's that have spent countless hours in the room learning from him. I'm just glad Luke was able to put together a solid tournament come home as an AA. Hopefully there's going to be a brick with his name on it in the Scott West wrestling room as a DI AA! |

No you don’t, but you would have a better understanding of how tough it is if you were even a D1 National Qualifier. I don’t care if your seeded and or ranked, it is going to be a grind. To say he choked is so disrespectful. Did short and Wanzak choke? How about returning All-Americans Thorn (0-2) and Bleise (1-2)? I would bet they will all say they just didn’t wrestle well enough this week. I would never say they choked. Edited by tr29, Mar 17 2018, 08:09 AM.

as much as I like hearing this if we met in a dual this year Oklahoma state would win. Still love seeing us place ahead of them but let’s not get carried away 125 Piccinicci dec Brown 0-3 133 Gross dec Brock 3-3 141 Heil dec Pohlmeyer 3-6 149 Lewallan tech Carlson 3-11 157 Zilverberg maj 7-11 165 Rogers maj Carlson 7-15 174 Kocer dec Smith 10-15 184 Mueller dec Moore 13-15 197 Rotert dec Weigel 16-15 285 White maj Macki 16-19 This is giving us both 184 and 197. Like I said before still stoked we’re finishing as high as we did, both we haven’t quite close the gap Edited by Cement mixer, Mar 17 2018, 03:50 PM.

Just got back from watching my "hugely overrated" son whom you, because you know him so well, "won't be sad to see go" and see that you have a thing for him again and feel like you need to bash a student athlete while hiding behind a screen name. Let's see, just off the top.......... 4x NCAA Qualifier, 3x BIG XII 1st Team Academic All Conference, 1x WWC 1st Team Academic All Conference, 3x NWCA 1st All Academic Team, BIG XII Runner-up, BIG XII Champion, 22+ wins each season finishing with 99 career wins, hundreds of team points and dozens of critical wins that contributed to the team success of the Jacks over the past 4 years, completed senior season with a 29-5 record against medical advice after being rendered unconscious and having the tendons for two of his fingers completely severed and reattached after being struck by a car on his moped less than 8 months ago, completed undergraduate degree in four years and has completed over half of masters degree by end of this season and I won't even get into his character traits, because you don't deserve to hear it. Basically, he had two goals that he didn't attain. Being a national champion and being an all-american. How about you pony up your real name, instead of posting behind a screen name, so we can research you a little bit and decide which one of you we would be more "sad to see go". You can spin it all you want in a rebuttal, but it boils down to the fact that you are a sad little man (maybe) hiding behind a screen name, bashing someone that you don't like for whatever reason. Give it a rest. Pat Rotert |

As an NDSU fan first, I'm glad to see Nate go, and that is meant as a compliment. I'm surprised he didn't AA once, but to me, that doesn't define his career. He and his graduating class helped put SDSU on the map and completely turned that program around. Great career |

Bono takes kid who never won the state title in MN and makes him an all-American. Eggum can’t take kids who are nationally ranked out of High School and get them to AA. Is it too late for Gable to change is mind? |

Gable isn’t changing his mind. The current wrestlers and incoming recruits have a lot of faith in this staff. They are excited to get back to work and bring the program back to the top. Congrats to SDSU on a nice tournament. |

Reader had an in home visit with Carson Kharchla out of Ohio. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BI_CCWQfyP0 I know Caden Lamer (Tri Valley, SD) has taken a visit to SDSU. He won his 4th state title at 132 this past season and was 7th at NHSCA sophomore nationals. Edited by Cougar1252, Mar 18 2018, 02:07 PM.

This post had become a lot more topical as we enter the off season or as I call it the "let's hope and pray that Bono doesn't leave season." It looks like the Wisconsin and Michigan jobs are both open with possibility for another one or two other openings. Bono does seem to really love Brookings and SDSU and he's got a lot of projects there, but I have to assume that people are looking to snatch him up and he might have aspirations of moving to the big ten. |

Quite the articulate FB post by young Mr. Rotert: Facing Failure: In life, there are times where we are put in situations that make us feel a way that cannot be described in words. This can be an emotional high, or an emotional low. The amount of intense emotion that it brings out in you is something that cannot be painted or described, it has to just be felt to be known. This last weekend I found myself in one of those life situations, where the low felt cannot be put into words. I stepped out onto the mat 7 minutes away from reaching a life long goal on wrestling’s biggest stage. I found myself in a moment that I had imagined, prayed for, prepared for, and longed for. In this defining moment, I failed. I came up short. I let a moment that had been created through years and years of struggle, escape me. This is the beauty and the struggle of the sport of wrestling. All of the glory falls on the shoulders of the man willing to put it on the line as a lone warrior on the mat. As these shoulders are prepared to wear the glory of victory, they have to wear the ugly and humbling garb of defeat. I will never be one to not take responsibility for myself. Wrestling has taught me this. All results are my own. As competitors we always want more, to raise the bar, and push ourselves to places we never thought capable. There is a constant hunger for success. I will forever be starved of the success I set out for in this sport and this hurts in a way I have never experienced. There is no more opportunity. I am not sure if this feeling will ever go away. I don’t think I will ever be “ok” with missing out on what I put my heart and soul into, but I am proud of the journey. The things that weren’t seen by the fans in the stands. The obstacles conquered, the pain endured, and the growth as a man that occurred. A label, a match, a loss, that doesn’t define me. The God I follow doesn’t keep track of wins and losses. All of this being said, I am blessed beyond belief. A freckle faced, pale, chunky kid from Spearfish, SD. That kid that didn’t see himself as worthy of being in the High School starting line up, or even worthy of being on the team, God gave him the confidence, the strength, and the opportunity to experience things that he never could have imagined. I have been drug through the dirt, climbed mountains, fallen down, and built back up. This all molded me into who I am today. It is impossible for me to mention all of the people that deserve being mentioned as a part of my journey. This has been a story that started at 7 years old. I want to thank my wife for loving me not because of my success, but because I am me. I took her to war on the mat with me this weekend with tape on my ring finger, she helped me win some close ones! I want to thank my family for supporting me over all of the years. I will never be able to repay them for the miles travelled, stress endured, and time lost. I could not have done it without them. The best part of my life....besides my wife. I want to thank SDSU and the 11th man. What a ride we had together! We grew as a program together. This is more special than any physical hardware I could receive. To my teammates, thank you. We are brothers for life. The things we have gone through together, the times we have had, the blood we have shed, the battles we have gone into, no one can ever take that way from us. I love you all. Forever. Seniors, we left our mark. To my coaches, thank you for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. I have taken pieces from all of you that have nothing to do with wrestling, but with being a man. You taught me how to live life right, scratch and claw for what I deserve, and love others along the way. I can’t ever put into words what you guys mean to me. Every win in my career, it was for you guys. Run through a wall mentality. We are family. Thank you to the town of Brookings for taking me in as a part of the community. Also thank you to the town of Spearfish for never leaving my side. You have always been a part of my motivation. I left it all on the mat. Though I may not be content with the results and never will be, I am satisfied with effort I gave, the heart I put forward, and the obstacles I overcame. It was an absolute honor to wear those four letters on my chest. Wrestling is done, but life has so much more ahead. |

When the last dual match at SDSU was done, you could tell our group was depressed as it was a fun ride this season. As we all sat around and watched our first Natl. Champ win, we had the same feeling.... someone said I hope the snow melts soon so we have something else to do. Thanks to all the coaches and student athletes for doing all the HARD work so we can have our enjoyment. I just received my season ticket renewal for next year, 4 tickets for under $325. Where else can you get that kind of bang for your buck. Thanks to a special group of seniors who along with the coaching staff put SDSU on the map and made it easier to recruit and bring top level student athletes to SDSU. I wish all of you success in life because that is really what all this is about. SDSU fans! Get your season tickets and please support the Jacks wrestling club. If we want to keep this going with our current coaches and keep elevating the program, we "the fans" need to help all we can! Besides when Coach Bono puts on an event it's fun! |
