We need everyone interseted in making the Juniors Fargo National team and those interested in the Juniors National Dual Team to step up and register.
Trny will be held at Augsburg College April 22nd and 23rd.
This helps the coaches know for head count and interest level.
All Champions get a spot on the Team.
Take the time to sign up soon.
Go to the MN/USA wrestling link and click on Junior state.
If the Big "G" would help the Unit out and pop the link on here I would thank you like a over under body lock for 5 points on a Russion. :D
Go Storm!

Will this finally be the year we get away from vertical pairing and move to line bracketing, or are we trying to be the last state in the country to get on board? What am I missing? Why has MNUSAW not changed this?

If as Unit suggests above that slots on the Duals Teams and Fargo are on the line, doesn't line bracketing ensure a more equitable outcome?

Hopefully they reward the people who do go when choosing dual teams for the summer.

Currently 21/34 wrestlers entered in Greco are from outside the metro. Impressive.

Let me ask my question another way, is there anyone in favor of vertical pairing? What are the benefits?

MN/USA web site states champions get spot on dual team, but coach's pick lineups.

The MN/USA Wrestling Junior State Freestyle andGreco-Roman Championships will be used as a basis for selecting the Junior National Teams. Single State Champs get Fargo roster spot in that style, must attend that camp and declare weight at camp check in, they also get a spot on the Duals team.

I would almost say the opposite. Vertical pairing splits the bracket and allows wrestlers to decide who's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best on that side in the ending RR. In a line bracket, those kids could meet first round and the best place they could take is 5th. Now, after the round-robin on each half, you wrestle the same placewinner as the other half. That's 3 pretty solid matches, right there.

The biggest positive I see is that kids can get more quality matches, and that is what this season is about, in my own opinion. The kids might not love getting 7 matches in a day, but it's only 2 days of the year. I wish they would've kept Fargo as a vertical pairing tournament. From a fan's view... You get to see more top guys hit each other because there's more matches.

Someone should keep track of how many wrestlers are on the JR Duals teams that don't wrestle this weekend.

I prefer vertical bracketing, it allows for the best wrestler in the bracket to drop an upset match and still be the champion. All line bracketing does is show you who went undefeated for the day.

With vertical paring the best 3 kids can square off the first two rounds eliminating one.

Also, one side of the bracket can be loaded, which often happens.

Some of this can happen with brackets too, but less likely.

I noticed T Eicshens registered at 145lbs, but moved to 152 today. I was really looking forward to the Eicshens/Lloyd match. Please make this happen.

Line bracket is slightly more fair and is slightly fewer matches. Neither by much. The only two good reasons to get rid of vertical is because it is very difficult to explain to parents and it requires trained officials to run the pairing.

I don't know if line bracketing is more fair and actually think the opposite but you are right about people not understanding it and the need for pairing officials.

I agree that getting matches is a good thing, but it is disappointing when many of the finals end up so lopsided. I don't see registration numbers that
would not allow line brackets enabling someone losing in the first round to wrestle back for third.

If kids are interested in going to Fargo and they do not win this trny . The MN/USA coaching staff is very aware of who all these kids are and are recommended to attend the Storm intense Fargo camp. I personally feel it is one of the best camps a kid can go to and yes anyone can sign up.
Its also a good way to possible get a wrestle off to make the team. My son had the best kid on his side 2nd match, guessing it should have been a finals match but both of them went onto wrestle in Fargo and on the Juniors dual team. Its sure fun to have people circle a mat to watch 2 kids show case great talent no matter what round.

I don't exactly see either of those reasons as much of a problem....
I think by the time most MN kids are a schoolboy, they know how to read a bracket... :$

Here is what makes vertical fairing less fair:
A guys goes 0-2 and wrestles the 1st and 3rd place finisher. In line bracketing you would wrestle someone who lost first round. More fair to the losers. I think traditionalist freestyle greco guys like it because they are proud of it and it makes them different. No brainer to change it, just like the location of state in Rochester. Took the old guard a long time to change. They will eventually...

I can read vertical pairing, but that doesn't make it right. Someone should tell me what is so great about it?

As a fan, I kind of like it.

As a coach, parent, and wrestler it is rediculous.

What a great representation of MN wrestling! Class act all the way around (officials, wrestlers, coaches and parents/spectators) at Augsburg this weekend. Great job wrestlers, you make us proud!

Anyone have any details on either of his finals matches with Lloyd? Two good wins.
