in the case of Steveson, he qualified to be on the Junior World Team ....Which would involve preparing and training at the OTC.... Junior Worlds is to be held the first week of August, that's coming up pretty soon......sometimes when it's a conflict whether youre going to represent MN, or the USA.....pretty sure the National level World Team wins out....

Fix makes the world team every year, and still wrestles. Obvious they did great without the young men that decided not to go. I just think it would be nice at some point to take our best team.

I think we can all agree representing your state or country when they ask is an honorable achievement at any level. Some see the value in it and others dont. But if you passed on being able to be on a junior national freestly win you missed a great opportunity to be a part of something historical.

In retrospect I am actually happy now some of our MN wrestlers did not participate because they get enough attention as it is. This was a great opportunity for some our lesser known stars to shine brighter on the national stage and soak up some well deserved attention which would have been wasted on someone like Gable. I mean come on Jake Glivas match was awesome. Kid is knocked out and losing, to regain his bearings and stick his kid. HUGE! And how about our youngsters? My son and I loved watching Thompson and Creese get their jobs done at Cadet duals to show up just as big at Junior duals. Those two get it done when called upon. And Kerklivet is still young and will be a force for two more years as well, and healthy, lights out.

Thank you guys for giving my family and I two weeks of awesome wrestling entertainment.

Here's my thoughts;without knowing anything at all about jobs, family events, or any of the other multitides of obligations/committments a person might have going on in their life...I'm not going to criticize and/or judge why or why not someone chose not to particpate....

Totally agree with 3MTA3, I love seeing the other kids step it up and win for their team. My son went thru a LOT of events over the years, and saw a lot of places all over the world thru his wrestling- but being a part of Cadet/Junior Duals and having that experience, and the relationships he formed, was priceless.....

Great weekend for the MN Storm team. Some observations from the week.

100 Paxton Creese: Went 13-2 on the week. Looked really good all week. Big tech against Illinois to stop their momentum.

106 Joey Thompson: Also thought he looked really good. Went 8-2 on the week. Hadn't watched him to much before the tournament.

120 Patrick McKee: Only lost 1 match. Had 2 huge wins against Rhett Golowenski (Oklahoma), Dack Punke (Illinois) after Punke teched him in Greco.

126 Garrett Vos: Had a nice win against Connor Brown (Missouri)

126 Jake Gliva: Looked more comfortable in freestyle. Had 2 huge wins against Jet Taylor (Oklahoma) after being choked out, and Joseph Melendez (Illinois)

145 Alex Lloyd: Was 8-1 on the week. Big tech fall over Hernandez (Illinois) Definitely someone that expects himself to win every match.

152 Calvin Germinaro: Had a huge pin in greco over Oklahoma

152 Alex Crowe: Nice wins over Plott (Oklahoma) and Fernandez (Illinois)

160 Peyton Robb 11-0 on the week. Had some big throws all weekend. Big tech fall against Oklahoma. Wrestled at 126 at last years tournament

170 Jake Allar: 14-0 on the week. Didnt always look his best, but got the job done in crunch time.

220 Noah Ryan: 7-3 on the week. I believe he was pretty new to the freestyle and Greco scene. But looked pretty good. Lost to a couple hammers in freestyle.

Hwt. Trenton Rogich: Looked small at times but still did a great job.

Has any state at any point taken their absolute best possible team? I kind of doubt it. MN left behind two or 3 guys who could have helped them. That is an extremely high percentage of top guys going.

As far as fix goes good for him. It's also in his back yard.

I'm not read into this whole setup I guess. I think I read earlier that meals are being provided by one of the moms but is lodging also provided? Is that $300-some dollar figure just for gear and to participate or does that include costs for a hotel? If you compete in both teams and you have to pay for a hotel, food (provided there are no good Samaritan parents), and gas for the guys in the Frazee area then that could easily close in on the $1000 range. I know my parents didn't always have that kind of money sitting around. Additionally the guys participating on world teams are already getting in plenty of matches this summer. Just saying that there is sometimes more to the story.

Team costs include gear, hotel and transportation. Aside from that parents donated food items or paid into a fund where traveling parents bought groceries to feed the boys. My son said one mom made banana and chocolate chip breads which he thoroughly enjoyed. Many families have put up kids from outside the cities at our homes as well including myself. In other words I think its pretty reasonable but thats my opinion.

Thanks for the clarification. I agree that is pretty reasonable but I also think that my point still stands. While wrestling as a representative for the state is a great honor, it is not an obligation.

I dont think anyone suggested it was an obligation at all. You either want to be a part of something or you dont. If you decide not to go its no big deal, plenty of other kids will happily go in your place. Other than that its the wrestler's loss who chooses not to go. My son loves this part of the year.
