Thought Tucker was a 2xchamp?

Guessing the starters are:
125-Williams-So.
133-Hensley-Jr. or Peska-Jr. (redshirting Renteria and Miller probably).
141-Red-RFr.
149-McCrystal-Sr. or Arthur-Sr. Purrington-So (McCrystal is listed as 141 on the roster). Shearer is wasting his talent there--wish we had him for at least some depth. Purrington wasn't a world beater last year and he was ahead of him on the roster. Weber is a RFr. and most likely can't beat two 5th year seniors that were starters...
157-Berger-Jr.
165-D. Williams-Jr. (Guessing White redshirts). If McCrystal stays at 149 and wins that spot. I wonder if Arthur bumps up to try and beat out Williams. Still would leave 3 wrestlers at 149 behind him for next year...
174-Breske-RFr.-was he injured last year as a redshirt?
184-Venz-RFr.
197-Schults-RFr.
Hwt-Jensen-So. or Grayson-So.

Huskers had their wrestleoffs tonight, although they are really just a way to show the team. The Daktronics will settle any lingering questions about the lineup.

Some matches were lackluster half-speed affairs, but there were a few good bouts; McCrystal-Purington and Breske-Labriola stood out.

Some thoughts:
---It will be real hard to keep Mikey Labriola out of the lineup this year. I like the way he wrestles.
---McCrystal won the deepest weight class. He edged Purington in SV, 6-4 over Weber. Shearer and newcomer Ruettiger battled it out as well.
---Jensen and Williams didn't wrestle, so hvy and 165 are the two most unsettled weights, assuming that Labriola will red shirt.
---I have a former Husker wrestler staying at my airbnb, he's in town for a wedding.

I forgot to mention that Venz and Schultz were beasts.
Kris Williams won both matches, kind of snoozers.
Christian Miller (168-2, 4x NE) has outgrown 133 and will give Red some good battles.

Yikes, The Wolfpack chews up the Huskers 29-3 in a televised match. Isaiah White was the lone winner for Neb.

I came in on the 285 match. I see Venz lost to Renda, 9-6. Was it as competitive as the score would indicate?

Venz-Renda was the highlight of the night. After Berger and Breske had listless losses to more aggressive opponents, Venz came out to change the tone.

In the first 15 seconds there was a Venz TD, Renda reversal, Venz reversal, Renda reversal to a turk for four back points. Venz escaped late in the period to make it 8-5 Renda.

Renda chose down to start the 2nd and Venz pounded him. Renda earned a stall warning and then got hit with a stall point as he was ridden out. 8-6 Renda.

Pops then charged the scorers table trying to give his tired wrestler a break. After jawing with the ref for a while he did get a bench warning, but accomplished what he intended.

Venz was fired up and feeling it so he ran to the middle of the mat and stayed in the DOWN position while this was going on. A relieved Renda said ok and promptly threw the boots in again and rode him out. Final 9-6.

I often talk about he importance of match strategy. Even though Tyler was "feelin it" the coaches should have instructed him to go on his feet.

The only other highlight was Kevin Jack cruising to a major with an 8-0 lead, riding time, and 13 seconds left. Jack decided to showboat and cut Red, who promptly double-legged him for two and then threw a hard crossface to end the match. Jack was plenty fired up but no major, 9-3 final.

The Wolfpack were very muscular and aggressive, completely dominating the hapless Huskers.

The Wolfpack are for real. Their upper weights are so strong that Michael Boykin is a backup. Underrated Hidley is a strong AA this year.

Looking at their loaded roster; rjr starter Sean Fausz left at home, neither Morris twin (Jamal, Jamel) starting, sophs Thomas Bullard and Nick Reenan on the bench.

Huskers looked better today even in defeat. Chad Red was impressive with a tech, White finally came out aggressive and came close to a major. Venz won a thriller. He pretty much dominated the match but kept letting Chip Ness back into it by giving up cheap points at the end of 1st & 2nd periods. Venz needed a last second reversal to send it into SV where he scored a quick td. Husker badly need a strength coach.
Kennedy Monday pinned Berger and looked every inch his father.

Good to meet Mom and Pop Venz at the meet.

Huskers beat the worst team in the B1G and elsewhere 48-3 as Kerry McCoy's squad forfeited two weights despite suiting up ten guys.

The big news was Jason Renteria coming out of red shirt. He celebrated with a 1st period pin in his first match of the season.

Isiah White wrestled after missing (ducking?) IMar. PBS says it was a skin issue so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Renteria finally making weight at 133 is going to make them much better.

College rules with the decent really suck, it takes forever to leagally go down if you wrestle at all up a weight class. Also, for bumping up in Duals, you can’t go up either and weigh in up a weight class or you have to do the long decent process. So if you have wrestled at 133 and they want you at 141 for a dual, you can’t weigh in higher than 136 or you are on that dumb decent plan.

It is a huge pain that you must stay ultra disciplined with. You balloon up once it can mess up your whole season.

Yes but it prevents making a huge unsafe cut does it not? Dropping weight slowly is safer than ballooning up and dumping it. These guys cut hard enough, taking a safeguard away for your thrill of bumping a guy up is just not worth it.

No you can make it safely down and someone gets hurt and your coach needs you to wrestle up for a dual and you are only alllowed to weigh 136 to wrestle 141? Otherwise in comes their DUMB decent plan. Every guy in the room is up 5-8 lbs between weigh ins even if they are healthily at their correct weight. You could have 2 studs at a weight who will wrestle off at the end of the season and you can’t use one of them to bump up for a dual without giving up a ton of weight. No reason for this rule once you make it down.

Typically when there are two "Studs" at one weight, one moves up or down. If they can't move up or down they are likely not a "stud"

Regardless this rule is set up to prevent mass flexuation in weight decent which is healthy for all wrestlers, not just "studs". They should have this rule in place in elementry through college. Do it the right way always. Changing it so coach can bump you up in an emegency is something that happens so infrequently anyway.
