Greco and Freestyle wrestling in the spring and summer helped my son go from a 15 match winner in the lightweights to a 30 match winner in the middleweights. I agree that it is like getting another year or maybe more of experience. Central Minnesota wrestling is the ticket. Had to throw that in.

Yeah I agree with BL Hornet on the Central Mn club and wrestling freestyle and greco will give you and extra season under your belt some kids can get 100+ matches in.

Kouri really cares about the kids and works real hard to make them better! My son as an 7th grader last yr had 28 wins and probably will have 30 some this yr . I think he owes alot to the freestyle program that dave kouri puts on!

Do the freestyle.

We did it and it improved technique, you don't win with sloppy technique. Maybe you get the 1 for the takedown but you give up 2, 4, 6 on the way. Teaches position, mat sense (eventually how to not get headlocked).

We went to tournaments only, never a minute of practice. No local program. Learned along the way. Downside was no friends cared to go. Lots of windshield time for dad (kid slept). Upside was lots of after weigh-in breakfasts together. Memories with the kid.

Wasn't too much wrestling either. It's like a whole different sport. It was an adventure. Wrestled kids we otherwise never would have had the pleasure to slap hands with.

...

Loved it.

The more mat time you get the more expierenced you will be and you will learn more which then will make you a much better Folkstyle wrestler.
