They aired a 5minute story about Blair Academy at the conclusion of the wrestling coverage. Very intense program they have! |

I agree TDG! Did anyone see the Mango Durlacher greco final? I am not a genius in rules, but Durlacher obviously attacked Mango's legs 2 times in the final 25 seconds- why was he not penalized? Instead he won the match because of it. |

Actually I don't think Durlacher got any points out of it. If you use your legs from the feet offensively they simply stop the action and don't award points. The inside trip was blatant but I don't know as if they awarded any points on that. The only time you get penalized for using legs as far as your opponent being awarded points is when you use them defensively. Part of the confusion during the telecast was due to Chertow...he's a good college announcer (not great) but I thought he was horrible on this broadcast. He made so many mistakes...such as looking at the wrong clock, saying Durlacher wrestled a marathon match in the 2004 Olympic Trials finals against Hall (it was MN's own Brandon Paulson) and stuff like that. It got to the point I pretty much just muted the volume. Yes, Joe's wife is pretty good looking. |

I watched the tape again last night, Durlacher does get awarded a point with 5 seconds left for Mango fleeing I believe (this is totally separate from the inside trip which was in the 2nd period). And Dulacher obviously was attacking his legs with his hands. And I agree, Chertow did not seem to know a lot. He did correct his mistake and give Paulson the credit for the marathon match. Either way thanks to CSTV fr airing this and give us guys who know nothing about Greco and Freestyle some insight. |

I'm going to watch it again tonight a little closer and will try to clarify it for you. If I commented right now I'd be going just off of memory. It was a fun match to watch though. |

I watched that match again and was looking for the leg attacks. While Durlacher did come into contact with Mango's legs it looked incidental to me...he was attacking the hips and his hands were sliding down when Mango was backing away from it. Had Durlacher gotten a takedown off that it would have more than likely have not been confirmed by the Judge or Chair...but had Mango not backed out Durlacher probably would have had his hips and not his legs. It is legal to attack the hips...you can pretty much attack from the bottom of the crotch on up. Durlacher was pretty much trying to grab anything he could. When I was watching it live I was immediately thinking Mango should be called for fleeing...but was still surprised to see it called since they weren't calling it much at all throughout the tournaments down there. And don't think I'm defending Durlacher...I've never been a fan of his. He and Brandon Paulson never really liked each other very much and I was a big fan of Paulsons so that carried over to me not liking Durlacher. But I do think the right calls were made in that match. |
