Both. Some kids wrestled qualifiers and no showed. I don't believe you should attend qualifiers unless you plan to attend state. (in some cases, you take a spot away or a seeding from someone who plans on going) I know the northern people will dissagree with me, because they have so few tourneys up there. But MAYBE in the case of the 6-7 qualifier, you indicate if you are going to state or not, and if not, your placing doesn't count....not sure what the solution is.???? Also, the tourney started PROMPTLY ON TIME all 3 days, so some kids were scratched for showing up late. Tough lesson to learn about promptness! (but the tourney had no choice) There were also a few Injury defaults. However, I would say 60-75% of the 100 "no-shows" never came to state at all. |

I do know of some kids that qualified and had to withdraw because of sickness. There were also some that had to withdraw early because of confirmation at their churches. |

My son Erik (cadet 189) had to leave the tournament after Saturday so he could be confirmed. I agree with you HWD if you are not going to wrestle don't qualify. I will take it one step further and say if you know you are not going to finish do not enter.....but. I entered Erik at the request of the Cadet Duals coaches. He is on the "bubble" as far as making the team (which was a goal of his this season) and the coaches wanted to see him wrestle on Sat in Freestyle to check him out. Who am I to argue with the coaches of the Cadet National team. I thought the tourney ran very well. I realize pairing had planned in advance to wrestle to a certain point and then dismiss the weight class (one round left in Round robin) so they would have two matches on Sunday. I would have liked (due to our situation) to have seen some flexibility. We were one of the last matches on Sat, and left at 6:15. The session was supposed to run until 8:30. They could have finished our weight class. I know of one other boy who had to leave to be confirmed and missed out on a triple crown (no flexibility) on the part of MN USA. I know I am on a slippery slope here but situations arise and they try to be fair to everyone. In our case there was no real loss. I do feel bad for the boy who lost a triple crown however. Based on how things worked out with time on Sat I think a couple of exceptions should have been made. Just my two cents |

I think there should have been some allowances made IF they were stated in advance. I agree with you Crdirector, that they COULD have finished the bracket in this case. Is there a particular reason they didn't? I don't think anyone would have objected finishing that bracket in one day? The ONLY complaint I have is that the state tourney COULD be one day. (does get $) Pee-Wee-Novice on Sat. Schoolboy-Cadets on Sunday, Greco finished in one day by 4:30pm, so I think it would be easier on families that way. If you have multiple kids across age groups? You would be no worse off that the present 2 day format, but those with one child or 2 of similar age, could save some time $. Just a suggestion to help increase numbers. |

They stated it would not be fair to all the other groups. They were not going to finish unless there were 5 or less in a bracket. That being said I read one poster saying his kid had 6 matches and finished in on Saturday. Maybe he counted wrong, who knows. I thought it was funny the Cadet coaches asked to finish the weight class and they still would not budge. It was not just us fanatical parents making the request. Like I said no flexibility for adverse situations that come up in any event. |

I agree. They should finish the bracket if the kid can't come the next day. Especially if it is because of confirmation or something else that important. Just my opinion. |
