Fall B'days are tough in USA wrestling. Most kids are either a year or 2 years older than you.

hmmm.....

My original question was "Did we do as well as we expected?" suddenly got changed to "were we successful?".   I certainly didn't want to belittle any ones efforts.... I know there were several success stories throughout the season. I knew we did well at the border battle but the numbers show that WISCONSIN might have had the edge at the end of this past weekend. I was just curious as to whether we had the same kids wrestling, or if there were any upsets so to speak.

Bravo to your boy Big D!!!! :D You should be proud, I know I would be. But I am curious, how did you get your fourth grader to wrestle six graders. All the tournaments that we went to for both FREE STYLE and GRECO were grouped by age. FOLKSTYLE allowed us to do that, but it all changed for FRESTYLE and GRECO :( . I would have gladly bumped my boy up at these tourney's but they would never allow me to......

Yes, I am proud of him...he has grown a lot this year (in wrestling)

As for wrestling older kids...didn't have a choice. Son has a late '95 birthday, just exited 4th grade, and wrestled kids with a 94 birthday.....not a huge deal, but did wrestle one kid almost 2 years older than him (he is a social beast, talks to everyone) and I believe everyone he wrestled were 6th graders, going into 7th next year (where he is going into 5th)

I may be wrong on a kid , just going by what my son and others told me. It's all good, i'm not complaining..shoot, they all made weight...just some have a couple more years of experience under their belt.

For doiing greco/free for the first time this year, he did just fine in my eyes.

Thanx for the kudo's, they are all his, believe me.

just a comparison of champs, i think we did better on placing over all though! With all those first places hard to win on points! we had a ton of placers!Again good job!!!

BIG D, did your boy have a hard time transitioning into the FREESTYLE and GRECO rules? It seems this year was a lttle harder for my boy. I am just guessing, but I think the kids that competed at NATIONALS in CEDAR FALLS were really impacted the most. It only gave the KIDS three weeks to get ready for REGIONS. I think the entire schedule needs to be reworked to allow for more FREESTYLE and GRECO mat time.

Does anyone know how Destin did at Freestyle???
Something doesn't look right with his bracket. First they show Destin winning over Juarez on the top part of the bracket, but then they have Juarez as winning the whole thing?!?!
Seems screwy to me.

destin beat him in one of the first rounds in the last few seconds both periods, then they met in the finals they go first from one side against 2nd from the other the ILLinois kid beat the #1 kid from the other side therefore they met in the championship round, destin lost 4-2, and was losing 3-0 in the second with about 10 seconds tried to score quickly and got pinned! i was there! tough match!

Northern Plains is my favorite tourney because they CROSS BRACKET the top 4 kids! This way, if a pool is heavily stacked on one side, it should pan out. We absolutely should do this at MN/USA. It was 2 extra matches per bracket total (12 minutes max) and absolutely without a doubt the fairest way to determine top 4 placers. Nationals should do this as well.

This is his first go-round with FS/Greco, so all the rules were new to us....

Did he have a tough time, kinda...all he has done is folkstyle, so this was like figure skating in a way

... I just ran a quick query to get a Champion count by state and here is are the numbers. It looks like WISCONSIN really sharpened up since the border battle.. :( ...

My son wrestled at both, and from what I saw, alot of kids from the MN Skeeter squad weren't there. So I think it is tough to compare the two events.

So Big D, you say your son has a hard time keeping his mouth shut, hmmm where did he learn that from, LOL. Come on you knew I couldn't let that one get by. Congrats on him picking it up ( freestyle & greco). I tried to get my boy involved, he just couldn't pick up the style and scoring, wants to play wasteball, i mean baseball. He'll be back out there in the fall!

My first thought here was...hmmm...do I know wrestling father....

Then, I got to thinking, I can't know him, or the other way around, because EVERYONE I know knows where my kids get their yap yap from, and it ain't dad...anyone who knows mom can attest to this....she could talk the divots off a golf ball whereas I could go 2 weeks without talking to anyone (antisocial...perhaps....just like quiet time)....with my fam, that is at a premium with yap yap from this side (mom), yap yap from that side (rattlesnake) and yap yap from behind (junior)

Bro is coming up from GA tomorrow....gonna go spend a weekend at my camper, just not talking to each other....quiet time...fishing...leinies honey weiss around the campfire.

ref: wasteball....umm baseball....i'm happy that my son is involved in it...actually, is his best sport as pitcher/catcher. First game tonight as a matter of fact

I guess my question to y'all is "Why did the majority of the SKEETER SQUAD stay home?".

Just plain burnt out  ??? The expense of competing out of state too much? ?? "Little Johnny" signed up for baseball and didn't want to miss practice? :ph43r: ??

My son had full intentions of competing at REGIONS and hopefully qualifying for NATIONALS, but the 10 kids he wrestled against all year in FOLKSTYLE and the 8 that qualified at state myseriously disappeared during the FREESTYLE and GRECO season. Looking at the results this weekend, we saw that there was one 112 lbs kid in the MIDGET division that he would have had to compete against, but does one match justify the expense of competing and travelling??? We both thought not...

Would have been great if those 10 kids from FOLKSTYLE would have hung on....

Next year you might consider coming to the Hi Flyers technique and scrimmage sessions between Mn/USA state and Northern Plains. We had 5 extra Saturday sessions to get ready for NP. It looks like most of the kids that practiced at these sessions did really good at the tourney. Just a suggestion.

That's sounds like a keeper STMABooster....I have heard very good things both about your camps and your program.

My son did the METRO Wednesday's in FOREST LAKE. Gordy Morgan did a great job...just a natural coach who commands respect from all his students. I don't think lack of coaching was the problem however....

The big problem was finding kids for him to wrestle against on the weekends  ... The 10 kids he faced all year "disappeared" during the FREESTYLE and GRECO season :( . He did win the "triple crown" but all he had to do for STATE GRECO and FREESTYLE was weigh in :( . Needless to say both him and I were extremely disappointed <_< . He put a lot of hard work in and winning the titles was very "anti climatic" for him.

Big D , I'm just the average Joe, who loves the sport of wrestling. I'm far from being an expert ( clears thoart) like some ( lilmatdog), but i do enjoy a little bantering sometimes. Just caught me funny when you were talking about your son jabbering away, many a times i have been on this board to see Unit and you firing off missives left an right, funny stuff. I hear ya on the part about where they get it from, my boy is quite a few years older than yours, but like his Momma he can jabber, funny thing about it, he leaves them with a smile on their face. So my comment was more to put a smile on your face, cause it did on mine.
