We have quite a few already registered for camp and hopefully will see a lot more registrations rolling in over the next few days. Deadline was listed as the 8th but we will allow registration to continue until we can no longer fit anyone in. For camp information go to www.mnusawrestling.org click on "divisions" then the appropriate age group (cadets or juniors only) and then click on the information that is listed.

Two names I expected to be on the list that weren't are Cody Adams (125 Greco) and Nate Willaert (152 Freestyle). Just wondering what the deal is?

How many are automatically allowed to go per weight? How do you automatically qualify? Do you need to qualify in BOTH styles to wrestle in both? attend both camps?
I also heard that by placing at NP and other regionals, you open up spots for others. Can someone explain how that works?
It looks like a great group going.

It is not updated. I don't know how hard it is to keep it updated, but I would think it can't be that hard. It would be nice if it was updated every day since they check in this weekend already.

Don't know for sure but it might be because it would be hard to keep their weight down for that long. I don't even know what weight they are wrestling but I know some other guys are only wrestling freestyl because of that.

Cody is wrestling Greco. Nate is wrestling Freestyle...but may cut to 145.

Kids are allowed to register for camp the day of camp. We prefer they register in advance but as long as we have room we will let them in. There are a number of kids who have called me and said they would be there and I told them to just bring their stuff on the first day of camp.

The only kids listed on the website are those whose paper-work and money have already been sent in to the state office. Nate's happens to be sitting on the front seat of my car.

It is updated daily. If you sent in stuff but are not listed I'd suggest emailing me. Anybody whose registration was received at the address it was to be mailed to is listed on the website within about 24 hours of it getting there.

Going back to what I said earlier about people registering the day of camp starting...there are about 15 kids who I know are going to be at the camps. But they will not be listed on the website until we have everything in hand.

Although I see the numbers are up for both GRECO and FREESTYLE I don't think some of you other guys understand, THIS IS IT! This is the very best camp you could possibly go to this summer- - even if you don't end up going to Fargo, this could possibly be the best group of wrestlers ever assembled in one camp! and the best coaching staff......these guys are the future of wrestling in Minnesota. If you cannot see that , then you are destine to finish second from here on out.... and wonder why you got beat in overtime!. Sam Barber and Randy Baker have put together a "Killer" group of coaches there is lots of experience here ans WORLD TEAM MEMBERS! ,Freestyle camp will be the best in history!
And Greco camp, Matt Clark and Dave Kouri have the best group of coaches ever, most of them are from the staff that has been together for over 15 years- - they know how to run a camp- - add Jake Clark, Chas Betts, Andy Beisek and other WORLD TEAM MEMBERS ADDED ,and basicly you have the FUTURE of GRECO in Minnesota with Dan Chandler- - Olympic and World team coach running the practice= and Lawrence & MORE in Freestyle- - who just got back from Europe, showing you the latest stuff, Who else has as many WORLD TEAM MEMBERS on staff. This is the camp you need to go to if you want to improve! Where else can you wrestle with the best wrestlers in the state! This is where you want to be in JULY if you are a wrestler...... just for the experience. Here are the major players in Minnesota Wrestling! And if you learn even /only one technique.... ANDRE HARNITZ "Mind" sessions alone are worth the price. LOOK, your club/school should pay $100.00 to help you attend a major technique camp, so you only have to put up $260.00 of the total cost of$360.00. - - the food alone is worth $360.00. And if you make the team to Fargo- - the Singlets are THE BEST
Retro- - 1976 Olympic singlets for the Juniors- - and Minnesota Walleye/Northern/ Babe- The Blue OX/Paul Bunyan Singlets for the Cadets + the Team shirt is Hand Drawn- FILA inspiresCLARK/BETTS on the back..... you could not look better.
We need 60 Cadetts at each camp, and 75 Juniors at each camp.....If you are not there......then you start the Fall season a little behind the pack!
I have run A Large number of Freestyle/Greco CAMPS..... this is the very best group I have seen in 25 years....YOU need to be part a part of it!

If your school or booster club is paying for you to attend....you may end up with a problem with high school eligibility due to MSHSL rules. Does anyone know what the rule is for sure?

Each state gets 4 spots per weight. T o qualify be 1 of the best 4 at your weight at camp. To wrestle both styles you should have placed in the top 4 at the state tourny. Then you have to petition to get into both styles and there be room at both styles. You really can't attend both camps becouse the greco tourny in Fargo starts before freestyle camp is done. N.P. the top 3 placers earn there state anouther spot at Fargo. Say Mn had a 1st and 3rd at NP at HWT then Mn can send 6 HWTs to Fargo. Hope this helps.

I think so...IF you place 1-4 in EACH style at state, you are guaranteed a spot on BOTH rosters? Or do you need to choose and hope you get into the other one? I get how the NP top 3 placers really help us in terms of allowable numbers. That is fantastic. I guess I don't understand the overlapping of the two camps, because it cost more to attend both, so I assumed participating in both was possible. Thanks for the info 10000 lakes!

State placing doesn't mean anything for Fargo. The extra cost is for the cost of the tournament and extra nights up in Fargo. If you go both style, you have to go to Greco camp, because the Greco tourney overlaps the Freestyle camp. Basically, if you want to go both styles, you better go to Northern Plains or one of the Junior Regionals and earn that guaranteed spot.

Booster is right on all of that.
Kids pay for camp. MN/USA pays for every kid that makes the teams to wrestle in 1 style. If you want to wrestle both styles (automatic or not) you pay a cross-over fee for the additional style. We try to keep that cross-over fee down to basically our bare-bones costs (entry fee, hotel, etc) so that it is not a major financial burden on someone to do both.

The only way to wrestle both is to attend the Greco camp. Greco wrestlers will be traveling/competing while the Freestyle camp is going on.

The ONLY people that are guaranteed a roster spot on either roster are those that placed in the top 3 at a USA Wrestling Regional tournament such as Northern Plains in that particular style and those that are returning All-Americans in the same style, in the same age group and at the same weight. The returning AA thing is a MN rule and those wrestlers do take up one of our 4 rosters spots at that weight.

Is it too soon to tell if there will be some Minnesotat weights that will not be able to take all that want to go?

No, it's not too soon. You can see on our registration page on our website that there are a lot of people registered for Freestyle between 130 and 160. Last year I think we had something like 11 guys in camp that wanted to wrestle at 152. But if you are a 98 or 105lber you'd probably be guaranteed a spot on the team.

7:30 Wake up
8:00 Eat breakfast
9:00 mat workout
12:00 eat lunch
1:30 mat workout
4:45 eat dinner
7:00 cardio games (ultimate frisbee, soccer) or mental preparation/visualization
10:00 go to bed

Typical mat workouts are around 1.5 hours long and never more than 2 hours. In between stuff it's pretty much rest and relax as much as possible.

Is Mike Thorn wrestling either style. I remember him as always goin both styles, b ut is he not wrestling up in Fargo this year? Looks to be a pretty good squad, we could easily have 10-12 All Americans and a few champs. No Kaleb Young either and wasn't he a Greco Champ last year in Cadets. Keep me informed. I'll be up there for Greco and can't wait to watch the kids do damage.

Stick to the Plan, Make it to the Stand!!!!!

Peace out,
Grant Johnson
