Edit*** I thought you were talking about Mike. The Bailey could possibly be a relation to Zach from Oak Park. He ended the season ranked #3 in high school. This deep in to the tournament, I'm sure whoever he was, he was no slouch. |

I'd love to answer all that right now but I'm dead tired. I'm going to briefly explain it and then next week sometime after the grind of this tournament is over I'll explain it all a little more detailed. Match points are the number of points you scored during the match itself...1 for a takedown, 2 for a turn, etc. Classification points are what you get for a decision, technical superiority and fall (3, 4 and 5 respectively) and only come into play late in the tournament. With the pool system it's possible that you could have a 3-way tie for 1st in the pool in which case the classification points would come into play to determine the order of placing in that pool. The only team awards at this tournament are that the champions of each style get their names engraved on a very nice trophy cup thing. |

Travis Ruttt might be doing better than any past MN Cadet. Travis has a chance to win the USA Wrestling National Triple Crown (knock on wood). Travis already won the folkstyle and greco national championships. He won all 10 matches in greco by pin (2) or tech (8). Only one point was scored on him in his 10 matches. He is 6-0 in freestyle and is in the round-robin. Only two wrestlers have ever won the Cadet Triple Crown, which was created in 2003. There was no Triple Crown winner last year. Last year Travis won national folkstyle and came in 2nd in greco and 3rd in freestyle as a 1st year Cadet Both his losses last year were to the national champions. Great job Travis. When you choose a college just look at your Dad's cap. |

Travis update. Travis is out. Something must have happened because travis took 3rd in his pool but didn't actually wrestle in the round-robin. My guess is he was injured or is sick. That's a bummer for Travis but whatever happened doesn't take away from his great showing. I hope it's nothing serious. I'll try to find out what happened. Update: Sounds like Travis hurt his hand during match yesterday and went to have it checked out last night. They were worried it was broken and since he is out that's probably the case. It won't make any difference to college recruiters but it's a bummer for Travis and his family. At least it doesn't sound serious. |

Zach Sanders is MN's first and only Cadet National Triple Crown winner. Did it in 2004. I'm pretty sure that there are more than 2 kids to have done that. I think Caputo and Moore from Missouri both did it in 2003 when they were still at different weights. |

Bailey was the Missouri high school state champ from Oak Park H.S. He won the Cadet Greco title. David tied the first period 0-0 and then lost the clinch. He got caught in a throw in the 2nd period and was behind 4-0 so he tried a desperation throw of his own and was pinned. It was no upset as Bailey is highly regarded. |

Does that mean he's committed to MN? If his match Friday afternoon is any indication he should change his name to the iceman. Started out behind, missed winning the 1st period with a takedown by a second. Won the 2nd period. Behind again in the 3rd and won it in a flurry at the end. No emotion, never flustered, just did what he had to do. Couldn't be there for any medal matches but was really impressed by this wrestler when I had the chance to watch. |
