Minnesota has 4 All-Americans at the Junior Nationals... 119 lbs. 1st - Zachary Sanders, Minnesota vs James Nicholson, Iowa - Sanders defeated this kid at Fargo last year. Confident in him winning his first Junior National title. 130 lbs. 3rd - Collin Dozier, Virginia vs Mike Thorn, Minnesota - Thorn lost to the same Blair kid he lost to at Junior Duals. I guess the kid just has IMPOSSIBLE positioning. Good luck to Mike. 140 lbs. 1st - Luke Ashmore, Texas vs Jake Deitchler, Minnesota - This has to be one of the most built-up freestyle matches for Fargo this year. Should be a good one. Ashmore beat Deitchler in Vegas, but Jake definitely has the ability to pull it off. 275 lbs. 7th - Charles Alexander, Oregon vs Evan Hacker, Minnesota - No info, but congrats to Hacker for the All-American status. |

I was wondering how they decide who goes on in the round robin it the wrestlers split, I ask this because I noticed Palmer from Ohio wrestling 140 only lost once through all the rounds and the round robin, yet Ashmore from Texas lost twice once in the rounds and once in the round robin. Has Dietchler ever wrestled Palmer? Also I noticed that Palmer lost by a fall- did anyone see that match? |

The final 3 guys in the pool are in the round robin. So you can get into the round-robin with a loss. Once you are there, if you already wrestled someone who is in the round-robin that does carry over. If not then you'd wrestle both of the other guys. If a beats b and b beats c and c beats a you'd have a 3-way tie in which case the classification points in the pool determine who advances. Ashmore lost to Abbott. Abbott lost to Palmer. Palmer lost to Ashmore. Classification points determined who won the pool...same situation as Jake's bracket. I think you're reading something wrong though...Ashmore only lost once so far in the entire tournament. The loss to Abbott. Palmer tried stepping over on a whizzer situation and got planted. I don't believe Deitchler has ever wrestled Palmer. He did wrestle Ashmore at the duals...time to wrestle him in a situation in which the official cannot dictate who wins the match (hopefully). |

Jake lost to Ashmore twice this year but I think Jake can win the 140 title. A Prime example at the kids duels Dakota Trom finally beat Brandon Kingsly for the Freestyle national titile; go get em Jake. I also wish zack and mike and evan good luck as well hopefully all of them can win there matches and we will have to Junior Freestlye Champions. |

Willaert probably didn't take a good look at what happened because he is a very busy young man. He deserves a ton of credit for the volunteer work/hours he gives to MN wrestling kids/families. R-R = round-robin. 140A. Ashmore lost to Abbott prior to R-R in the preliminary rounds so that match was carried over to R-R. Ashmore received 1 classification pt. for that loss and Abbott received 3 pts. That was the only loss for Ashmore. Ashford pinned Palmer in the R-R (5 pts). So, Ashford had total of 6 classificaton points in R-R. Abbott and Palmer tied with 3 classification points each in R-R points but when there is a tie between 2 wrestlers in R-R the winner of the head-to-head match is used as criteria to break the tie. Since Palmer beat Abbott, Palmer took 2nd place in the pool. When you see a red box around prelimination matches before R-R it indicates that the match was carried over to R-R. Cubberly, Mason and Deitchler were in the other R-R at 140B. Cubberly beat Mason. Deitchler beat Cubberly. Mason beat Deitchler. However, when Mason lost he he didn't score so he didn't receive any classification points. Instead he received zero points and then 3 pts. for his win giving him just 3 classification pts in R-R. Detchler and Cubberly each received 3 pts for their wins and one classification pt for scoring when they lost so they both had 4 classification pts in R-R. So, Mason took 3rd in the pool and with Deitchler and Cubberly tied Deitchler gets 1st because he beat Cubberly head-to-head. Sometime there is 3-way tie after R-R (like they each win one and receive 3 classification pts and lose one with 1 classification pt). That is when they go back to preliminary rounds and add up the classification pts to determine the winners. However, when adding up the pts in preliminary rounds they do not include classification points that were carried forward to R-R. |

This probably isn't the spot to ask, but I will anyway. The kid from Idaho who won 152 freestyle, Hall, what did you guys think of this young man. I think he's amazing and unhearlded somewhat. |

I think he definitely had a break-out year. Pound for pound, Minnesota had wrestler or two or three up there who were better than him, though. He sometimes can't handle his losses in a proper manner, but he is a good wrestler. |

If he's winning all is right in the world. Luckily not a single call went against him all week because if it had everything would have unraveled. I've seen him standing out on the mat crying his eyes out as his coaches had to push him back on the mat to finish a match. And his parents will drive a person nuts...especially his mother. I don't know him personally but I have a feeling that he's going to be high maintenance for his college coaches. |

Thanks. I would have never guessed that, but I dont doubt you guys a bit. Isn't he like a three time state champ and ranked 1 or 2 in the country? Boise State is where he is bringing his ways. Must be a product of his parents? Any other siblings that wrestle? |
