I've been here in Romania for about one week now next weekend we have a competition. We are actually staying in Transylvania, about a 20 minute drive from "Dracula's Castle". I'm guessing I'll make my way there at some point when I find the time. We are staying in a town/city called Brasov and it's actually the second largest city in Romania behind Bucharest. We have a 10 day training camp here with Romania, Hungary, Egypt, and a few other people/countries. The training has been alright, and much to my surprise... the food and accomidations are VERY good! If anyone knows how I can go about placing photos on here, I'll send some of the ones I've taken thus far. This training camp is for our Greco-Roman World Team and the competition is more so a warm-up before the Worlds. Before coming to Romania I had heard how this place is full of "Gypsies" and that muggings happen quite often. For those of you not familiar with a Gypsy (spelling?), they are "travelors", people with no homes, and usually have a BAD rap about them. However, the people here have been great. Hopefully I'm not jinxing myself by saying that! On our way here we flew through London Heathrow and it was a day before that whole plot to blow several planes up happened!!! Thankfully we made it before all of the "hoopla" and didn't get stranded there overnight or anything. I'm not sure how it's going to be on our way home, but security is much tighter from what I've seen on the news. We are not going to be able to have a carry-on which puts a damper on my souvenier shopping! I also have a laptop and PSP (video game) that I'm going to have to put in my check-in luggage. The odds of those things surviving the flights and baggage handlers without breaking are not too good!

Anyways... Back to the training. We are staying at the Olympic Hotel and the training center here is where their wrestlers live and train. We practice twice a day and there is NO such thing as an easy practice. The Hungarian 211 pounder (who actually weighs about 230 right now) keeps grabbing me as his training partner. It sucks! He's so big that it's difficult to train with him. All the guys on the team keep laughing about it and ask me if I'm going to start training with the HWT's soon?! Every practice he asks me to go a match with him before I have time to get someone else. To say the least... I'm not competing too well with him. ha ha. Yesterday in a match I hit him with a nice arm drag right off of the bat. That was a BIG mistake. When he got back up, he was a little upset!!! ;) I don't think I'll ever try to take him down again! ha ha. Well, I must get going for now, but I hope all is well with everyone. Until next time, take care!

I'm offended that my name has showed up on the same page as Michael Jackson's. It's almost scary in a way! ha ha. Actually, that is the first album I owned. As in RECORD ALBUM! It makes me feel old to say that! I used to dance like a wildman to that record when I was a young buck! Enough about that. I believe he's innocent too! He's just too kind and has been burned for that.

As for my trip, there is really not much to give for an update! It's been a quite boring last few days and weigh-ins are tomorrow (friday). I guess Brazil had much more interesting things to write about. ha ha. I have been keeping busy sleeping and training for the past few days and am very excited to get out of here. We are stuck up in the mountains of Poina Brasov and there's not much to do. In the winter this is supposed to be a "Hot-Spot"... which doesn't do ME much good in the SUMMER! Darn-it! Besides the fact that I have a pack of wild dogs that live outside of our hotel... there's not much more to write about. Byers is again on this trip, but there are NO pineapples and he's not my roommate! ha ha. My roommate this time is Harry Lester and our room has a very foul smell. Not from either of us though (or so we think!). We've had a leak from our shower into our bedroom. Whenever we finish taking a shower, our floor is soaked! After a few days of that, the mildew and odor has become horrible! (ontop of that we have a bunch of dirty workout clothes scattered across the room!) For the kids back there in the U.S., be thankful you have a wash machine (for Willaert, be thankful you have a wife!!!!!) Ouch! If you get the chance to travel abroad, you will notice how great of an invention it is! Mom, I still have clean underwear... don't worry! ha ha.

Well, I hope all is well with everyone and I will try to keep you all posted if any FUN events occur! Until then, take care!

On my way home...

I'm now at London Heathrow and have a few hour lay-over. The trip went well, but I've seen cooler places, and had better times (on and off of the mat). Wrestling didn't go as well as I hoped being that I only had 2 matches. I won my first match against some guy from the Republic of Georgia (former Russian Republic). I believe he is their #2 84kg wrestler. My second match was in the quarterfinals and I lost to Vering... again. I'm alright with it though. Don't get me wrong, it SUCKS to lose... and for me... especially to another American since I'm supposed to be the #1 guy. However, and I'm not making excuses... I haven't been training much, if any, over the past few months. I had a date set on when I'm going to commit myself to my training for the upcoming World Championships and that is one month out from the competition. Basically, when I get back to the States... it's on! My match with Vering went well and I really have no complaints. He didn't score any offensive points and couldn't turn me at all. He won BOTH of the coin tosses and that's what decided the winner. Both periods I had to go for broke in the last few seconds... and he came out on top (I think receiving a point). I have some things figured out with him though... and once I'm in shape (not the ROUND one I'm in now!), I am VERY confident that I will win. With these new rules that we have, that coin toss can win or lose you matches... I need to take that part out of the game.

From here I'm flying to Colorado Springs to the Olympic Training Center and I'll be out there until I leave for China on September 11th. We have a 2 week training camp starting on Thursday and I'm excited for that to start, and to get the ball rolling. I wish I could have written more about this trip, but I didn't have EASY access to the internet and that made things a bit difficult. My time in Romania was "alright", but to be honest... I'm not a fan of that country. Ofcourse since it's Eastern Europe, they have some good looking women. However, the people seemed to be quite... actually, VERY snobby. They are about to join the EU (European Union) in the near future and I think it's going to their heads... especially the women! ;)

Well, I suppose that is all I have for now. While I'm in Colorado I should be able to have internet access so I'll try to keep everyone posted. Until then, take care to all!

Jake, if you could post periodically on your training before the worlds that would be great. Have very much enjoyed your last three posts about Romania. Best of luck at worlds.

Nice to hear from ya Jake. I hear what you say about about the training. Just mark your calender with "PUSH" and then turn it up for the big Show.
Stay healthy and strong and we will have your back covered back in MN.

Oldfan,

I was actually just getting on the internet to start a post about my training and experiences for Worlds. I am hoping to post as much as possible and want to "bring everone along on my journey" as much as I can. Thanks for showing interest and I hope people are able to enjoy an "inside" look at the International level of wrestling.

Unit,

I hope to do all of you proud back in MN. This is going to be a great experience for myself and I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Thanks to everyone for their interest in my travels, training, and life in general. Take care to all!
