I guess Travis could beat his opponents but was no match for the politics coming from USA wrestling. In greco he won (I believe) 9 or 10 matches giving up only a point (one) in a bracket with 70 or so wrestlers. Ryan Mango who won OW was in a bracket (84lbs) with 16 wrestlers and gave up 3 points in his whopping 5 matches, but hey Spenser Mango is his brother. Congrats to Travis a class act. |

Politics of USA Wrestling? USA Wrestling has nothing to do with it...every state has a vote for OW. One representative from each state is allowed to vote on it. Yes it can be a popularity contest but USA itself has nothing to do with it...it's the coaches from the other states that you should be ripping on. |

Correct me if I am wrong but are the coaches doing the voting members of USA Wrestling. You call it a popularity contest I chose to call it politics (which is a popularity contest if you look at it) Bottom line is Travis got the short end of the stick. Lets not turn this into a bash USA Wrestling post. I do not want to be the catalyst that feeds ammunition to all of the NYWA/ AAU/ AWA/WWE/NWA you name wrestling organization that has sprouted up over the last few years to bash what I consider to be the best of all of them (USA Wrestling). It (MN USA) has done wonders for my sons. |

Yes they are members of USA Wrestling. But when referring to the politics of USA Wrestling people will generally associate that with those that have offices out in Colorado Springs. I just wanted to point out that Mark Scott and Ted Witulski and all those guys have nothing to do with the OW voting. I know you didn't intend for your reply to sound like it was ripping on those guys in CO but to many that's the way that would have been perceived. Bottom line...yes, Travis got the short end of the stick. I've been saying for years that each state should provide a short summary of why their guy should be chosen and make it part of the ballot. Because unfortunately those of us that are voting don't always know exactly what a kid did in the tournament. For Travis it would have been very simple..."pinned/teched his way through tournament and gave up 1 point total". It's tough to follow every kid in that tournament. And when you're supposed to be voting you're too busy trying to do other stuff. That brief synopsis on each champion would help tremendously. |

It has more to do with than just the coaches votes. This I know. |

I know very little about the inner workings of USA Wrestling. However giving an Outstanding wrestler to a first year cadet in the smallest weight class in the tournament seems a little fishy to me. I have a hard time believing the coaches voted for this. Call me Oliver Stone, but it appears that Travis or any other wrestler was not going to win OW if Ryan Mango won his weight class. |
