Do they bracket by grade for folkstyle or what?

There is no coaching advertised for folkstyle, is this for freestyle too?

I've only been there with a youth wrestler. It looks like they don't want the little guys this year.

When it was youth they did it by grade and weight. Can't say for sure on how they will run it this time.

Usually they have done it by 7&8, 9&10, 11&12, college and old timers, and by weight of course

I don't think it's a matter of "not wanting" the little guys, I heard it's because they no longer have use of the Four Seasons Center, and the venue used now is much smaller....they are using the HS, I think ? and so they had to down-size.....

obsessed; I think the no-coaching thing was ONLY folkstyle - we were there two yrs ago for Saturday Freestyle, and coaching was allowed....

the numbers of "little kids" steadily declined over the years with other tournies coming into play, owatonna wrestling is all about the kids and participation, so if we could have kids, we would!!!!!!!!!!!! i may be wrong, but i think friday folkstyle is 7-12, but check with coach davis to be sure. see u at the o-town open!!!

The flyer from the Guillotine Open Tournament Calendar says 7-12 for the high school folkstyle.

Do they do one weigh-in for both so those that drive don't have to get there so early??

That would be nice to know, we drove 1.5 hours all the way out there for an early season tourney this year, got to the door, and it was cancelled. It was the ONLY tourney in 7 years that we have ever gone to that was cancelled. We were planning on taking a carload tomorrow for FS!

I did hear the snow is wet so it shouldn't be bad driving....

I suppose it depends on the direction you're coming from. Right now Rochester airport is advising people to call ahead because of weather delays. It's snowing pretty good in SE MN and with the wind those wide open roads getting to Owatonna might not be pretty for tonight anyway.

I called the number on the form and was told that it's on. Snow was tapering off at that time.

College...it was fun to see the variety of emotions at this tournament. Some looked as tho they were going to puke, some were laughing, some looked like they were going to puke and were laughing at the same time! And some don't look as good in a singlet as they once did. The best was probably the 69 year old that still had muscle definition in his small frame...and the 'awwww' the crowd gave when he got taken down. Hats off to Owatonna for running an excellent tournament and giving some ol timers another chance to compete! ;)

I got to wrestle Fred, the 69 yr old gentlemen from Hastings in the exhibition match as I was the next lightest and probably the 2nd oldest. His son failed to mention that Fred was a Jack Lalane clone, for 69 years old he was in terrific shape and a great role model for wrestling. Fun to roll around for 4 minutes.

#1 priority for this old timer, leave in the same condition I arrived.

Nice tourney, got to love the 2" thick mats for the old timers.

My husband is the 68+ year old you wrestled. And i might say you are one awesome young man. Your were such a gentleman and a good sport. Fred has never wrestled until 3 years ago and that is only with his grandsons. He has been a Golden Glove Boxer in his young buck days, and has recently started coaching boxing at the Hasting Boxing Academy in Hastings. He loves working with the young kids..and it keeps him in shape.
Your family can be proud to have you as father and role model to all the bucks....
Freds doe.. :D

That's one very OPEN tourney, three styles and all ages.Something for everyone and 68 year old first timers to boot.!
Reminds me of the Hutch hockey and basketball players that challenged each other at the Hutch open a couple years ago. They each had an eye-awakening experience,I love it.My kid couldn't make it this year but we'll be back next year. Was there a pancake breakfast again this year?
