Seems kinda strange to have two tournaments so close together on the same weekend.

Great tournament put on at Eastview. Alot of kids and alot of good matches. I heard there were about 400+ kids and they tried having a 13 mats open i do believe. Thanks to those who volunteered and it was nice to see some of the gopher wrestlers and even the junior division guys reffing in between there matches reffing. Thanks again.

Wasn't the best run! Having the juniors in the wrestling room was pretty cramped. I know most of the crowd was there for the young kids but it was tough to see the big ones stuck on such small "mats". They also should have had a trainer there. They should not be tearing down any mats when other matches regardless of age could be moved over to speed things up. All that said, it was a big crowd and they did pretty good over-all.

It sounds like they had 14 mats going on the day and you are whining because it took 30 minutes to get everything rolling smoothly? Please...it sounds like a lot of people were chipping in to try to make a great day of wrestling happen with a lot of good matches. When you get over 400 kids entered into a tourney there are going to be glitches to work out and it sounds like Eastview did a great job.

Eastview did a really good job, with over 400 kids there and being short on ref's-
( Folkstyle natl's etc) over 1/2 of those 400 and some were cadets and Juniors...so obviously those two groups were going to be the last to get out of there.

special thanks to two of our Junior wrestlers for reffing in between your own matches.... ;) much appreciated !
had there been a few more ref's, the day might have gotten done a bit sooner....
they had started tearing down the mats downstairs, but as soon as the head pairing group discovered that the juniors still had lots of matches left, then they sent some of the groups downstairs...
over 400 kids, short on ref's, and still done by 4:30 ? that's a job well done.
if you disagree, then you haven't done enough freestyle ;) JMO

More Clubs need to step up and provide at least one Mat Official and one Pairing Official. They also need to provide tableworkers. If every club provided these volunteers, tournaments would run smoother. Also, the same people wouldn't have to work every weekend because there would be plenty of help, and people could take turns. There were only a couple of Mat & Pairing Officials who worked at the tournament that actually had a kid wrestling in the tournament. Those other volunteers aren't going to be around forever. Please think about volunteering.

A few people walked around and asked some of the Coaches and Junior wrestlers to help officiate matches when they could. Some others stepped up and volunteered without being asked. Thank you to everyone who helped out.

All things taken into consideration, the tournament was run very well.

400+ at Eastview, almost 400 minnesotans at USA national championships and a full load at NYWA, WOW! Something for everyone. Did NY still have it's usual turnout or were they down a little with the big numbers at the USA events?
