We're new to freestyle and our coach mentioned nationals in Fargo. I tried looking through the schedule but...how can you find anything on there??? :) I did see that you had to qualify, so does anyone have any dates or locations as to where these qualifiers might be at? A link to a website would be cool also. Thanks!!!

For Junior age wrestlers, there has been seperate camps for Freestyle and Greco at Augsburg College in July. At those camps, you work on your specific style, get ready for nationals and wrestle off for your chance to be on the team for Fargo. You can also qualify by placing in the top four at a regional tournament.

Purchase a USA card if you don't already have one. They are usually available at any tourney. You will need to place in the top three at Northern Plains for Cadet or Juniors to qualify. You can also qualify by attending the training camp prior to Fargo by wrestling off. MN is allotted 4 (?) per weight class. Returning All Americans and those that qualify at a regional tourney don't count against that number. All wrestlers must go through training camp.

He is a cadet. We already purchased a card and will be wrestling at Apple Valley this weekend for the state qualifier. Where is Northern Plains? My son was told about the training camp at Augsburg, but do you have to be invited to that, or how does that work.

Look under schedules and choose national for the Fargo flier
and regional for the cadet/junior tournaments you can attend to try and qualify for Fargo, all have fliers attached

You have to attend state to go to Northern Plains. You cannot change weight from state to Northern Plains. (Well at least last year you couldn't, not sure if that has changed)
You can also attend any other cadet regional nationally and go any weight you want.

Ok, some good information on here but also some mis-information.

To wrestle in Fargo you must go through camp. Camp is at Augsburg. There is a seperate camp for Greco and Freestyle. You cannot go to both camps. That doesn't mean you can't wrestle both styles in Fargo but it is impossible to attend both camps as the freestyle camp is going on when the greco guys are traveling to Fargo.

To get invited to camp there are a couple of things you must do.
1. Have a USA card
2. Compete in tournaments such as the opens, state, etc.

To be able to wrestle both styles in Fargo you must have done 1 of the following:
1. Be a double state champ (Freestyle and Greco)
2. Placed top 3 at a USA regional (such as Northern Plains) in Freestyle

Whoever said returning AA's don't count against our roster is wrong. We (MN) do however grant an exception to returning AA's who are at the same weight AND in the same age group...but they do take a roster spot. Just as the double state champs do take up a roster spot. Max roster limits do not automatically allow for 4 per weight...in fact if we went based on the max roster limit it would only allow for 3 per weight (for Juniors)...doesn't mean we will automatically take 3 at every weight.

Bottom line...get a usa card, go to tournaments and register for camp when the time comes. Do all that and you'll have a chance to earn a spot and compete for the Minnesota Storm in Fargo.

If your son is a Cadet and you have more questions contact Jim Moulsoff. His information is on the mn/usa website. If your son is a Junior contact me...contact info also on the website. www.mnusawrestling.org

Thanks for the information. We paid for the card about a month ago, but haven't received it yet(am about to hop on the phone to get more info. on that), he's wrestling in Apple Valley this weekend, and wants to go to the camp. When is that camp? I saw dates for different ones through Augsburg, but which one is it? By the way, Thanks to all for helping me out!!!

Camp is in mid-July. I'll have all dates posted next week. The camp has nothing to do with Augsburgs camps. It's just held at Augsburg. It is a MN/USA camp.
