JUNIORS:
If you would like to be considered for ANY STORM Juniors teams going to The National Duals, or Intensive Camp, or FARGO... You need to be at Augsburg this weekend wrestling in the state tournament. Get yourself "recognized" by the coaching staffs, by being there, then you will be on the information line, and you are on your way! Coaches always hear "I didn't know." - - After the fact. Too get picked you need to be there..... These are two inportant tournaments!

Do you need to place at Jr State in order to qualify for Junior's camp?

It is not a requirement however it is greatly encouraged. It's tough for us to know a kid wants to put in the time to wrestle this summer if they don't show some effort in the spring.

The worst thing is when a kid calls us and says "I'd really like to go to (insert camp, fargo, duals, etc here)" and is calling or emailing the day before.

I'd like to think I'm pretty easy to talk to. I'd encourage any kid out there to introduce themselves to me this weekend if they don't already know me. Same goes for Ed Kane, Matt Clark, Sam Barber, Dudley Flodeen, Dan Chandler, Jim Moulsoff, Dave Kouri, Randy Baker and all those that are involved in coaching the summer teams. We don't bite. Talk to us.

correct me if i'm way off CWill, but what i was told is that Top 6 qualify for junior fargo on team MN, or placing top 3 at a regional ie.:Northern Plains, or Western Regional... just wondering exactly...

my son has placed in the top 3 at nationals in cedar falls last 2 years also beating kids on the Storm team each year. We have not ever been asked to be on the team or any other team. He works his butt off and does very well, now he enjoys beating kids on the storm team because we always get the cold shoulder from them and their coaches.

Does he go to the Junior National Camp? If he is top four in his weight there he gets to go to Fargo.

Anybody who wrestles at Jr state will definitely get invited to camp. Top 3 from jr regional have a roster exemption for Fargo...in the style they were top 3 in.

Correct. You can show up and register. On-site registration is $23 per style.

I did a quick search. I found 2 wrestlers who would have been old enough to wrestle for any storm teams but didn't and placed top 3 in cedar falls over the past 2 years. Now maybe I missed someone but it doesn't appear that either of them wrestled in any mn/usa state freestyle or greco tournaments. Kind of hard to make a Storm team if you don't wrestle the styles that our teams go and compete in.

Placing in Cedar Falls is a great accomplishment. But has absolutely nothing to do with Freestyle and Greco which is the only Storm "teams" a kid can be on.

If you feel you've been overlooked and your son would like to take part in something feel free to email me and I'll point you in the right direction.

Not true. Some weights could have 4 or 5 kids and some may only have 2 or 3. We have a roster limit which if spread evenly across all weights would be 3 non-automatics (didn't place top 3 at a jr regional in that style) per weight.

So the BEST way to assure a spot at Fargo is to go to as many Northern Plain type tourneys until you can land top 3? THEN you open up another roster sopt for your weight class for someone else, AND you get to automatically go without the wrestle-off...IS this correct?
Can you list which ones count? I heard so do, some don't...
Northern Plains does count, not sure on others.

Mr. Heavy dad-

You are correct in saying that the best way for you to get on the team is to place top 3 at a regional tournament and attend the specific training camp. If you do those things you will make the team with NO wrestle off needed.

Placing top 3 in any regional national tournament such as Northern Plains, Western Regional (Las Vegas), Rocky Mountain Regional, etc. will make you an automatic qualifier in that particular style for frago providing you attend the camp at augsburg.

The best way to start this process is to attend as many freestyle/greco pratices as possible and wrestle in the state tournaments. Ask someone at the tournament and more than likely they will point you towards a cadet/junior national coach that will be able to tell you everything you need to know.

Now if you don't place in top 3 at any regional tournament you will still have a chance to go to the camp, work hard, and wrestle off for a spot on the team. The freestyle teams usually have more wrestle offs than greco.

Hope this helps. Kane and Willaert.... See you guys this weekend.

I have been hearing a lot about the camps this summer. How does the camp work? Is there a cost? My son is participating this weekend and would like to get the chance to make the "teams". Just trying to get the info needed to make sure he has the oppurtunities.

Yes, there is a cost. Duals cost varies from year to year and wether or not you compete in both styles. Do both styles and you're probably looking in the $450 range. Do 1 style and you're probably looking in the $250 range....final prices will be set hopefully around the first week of May. I already have the hotel booked just waiting on a few more bids for busses.

Camp...I think it's at $375 but that's off the top of my head...includes meals, lodging, etc....basically anything that any camp covers. If a wrestler makes the team to go to Fargo the only thing they pay for up there is meals. We pay for hotel, entry fees, transportation, uniforms (singlets, jackets, shirts, etc).

Camp invites should go out around May 15th or so.

AT Greco and Freestyle State!

This is the first time I actually LOL'd while looking at the internet in a while.

Also, I think it should be noted that Minnesota's price for Fargo with the camp/tournament/hotel/etc... is probably the cheapest in the entire country. At least that's what I've gathered. Other state's charge outrageous amounts.

MN wrestlers pay less for duals/camp/fargo all combined than most states pay simply for their training camp. Quite a few states are well over $1000 just for their camp/fargo stuff. Combine camp/fargo and duals and we're still probably not over $1000...and when I say combined that includes if a kid were to wrestle both styles for everything. Cheap.
