I'll give it a try. Freestyle allows kids to be much more aggressive in the front headlock position than folkstyle. Here's what I tell my kids: if you don't want to get choked out, get control of your opponents hands before they start choking you. Learn how to defend yourself properly. If you can't figure it out, talk to a coach that knows the front headlock position and have them help you. Once you learn proper defense, choking will no longer be an issue. |

HE HASNT BEEN CHOKED OUT OF A FRONT FACE LOCK. I CAN SEE WHERE THAT WOULD HAPPEN PRETTY EASY ITS BEEN DIFFRENT AFEW TIMES. BUT I THINK LIKE YOU SAID HAND CONTROL WILL BE WORKED ON. |

What position is he getting "choked" from? Choking shouldn't be happening...even out of a front head. Doesn't matter what style it is, being across the throat is not allowed in any of them. Unless it's mma which we don't do. As for seeing black...don't need to be getting choked for that to happen. A very tight (and legal) headlock can cause that...pressure on both sides of the neck can cut off circulation and make a kid pass out. |

Article 52- Illegal holds The following holds and actions are illegal and strictly prohibited: - throat hold -holding the head or neck with two hands, as well as all situation and positions of strangulation. -the only holds allowed are with head and one arm. -in executing a hold, only one arm may be used to hold opponent's head or neck. These are all I found pertaining to chokes. |

Rule of thumb, If you can hear a wrestling saying "I can't breathe", or even if you can hear the wrestler acting like he's choking, he's not being choked. If a kid is really being choked, he will be silent and turn blue. Most refs can see that, and know what to look for. Often, kids get claustaphobic when they get put into a hold involving the head or neck, and will do anything they can to get out of. |
