U.S. National Freestyle Women's Wrestling Tournament
Las Vegas, Nevada

Ali Bernard won the 158.5 weight class at the 2008 Sr. Women's National Tournament beating Katie Downing in 3 periods 0-1, 2-2, 1-0. Downing had upset 2 time World Champion Kristie Marano in the semi-finals. Marano was the odds on favorite to win the tournament and make the Olympic Team. Now Bernard will be the one to beat at 158.5 in the Olympic Trials in May. She will face the winner of the Olympic Trials mini tournament in a best two out of three showdown to make the Olympic Team and represent the United States in China. Bernard beat long time nemesis, and number 2 nationally ranked Iris Smith in the semi-finals 1-2, 2-2, 1-0 in 3 periods. Ali Bernard is a Senior at the University of Regina in Canada, and a 2004 graduate of New Ulm High School.
