Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is the "Triple Crown"? I've deduced that you need to win the MN/USA Freestlye and Greco, but what is the third championship?

I paid most of my attention to the Midget and Schoolboy divisions as that is where my boys wrestle. I have to say that there are some extremely good kids in this state and I was thoroughly impressed with the competition and technique I witnessed at the state tournament. The names listed on here for Triple Crowns are a very big deal and these guys should be commended for their accomplishments.

There has been a lot of talk on here about who is better, most dominant, etc. In the two divisions I paid attention to, Midget and Schoolboy, I challenge anyone to find a better technician than Christian Bahl, very solid, or an age division wrestler more dominant in their class than Keagan Moore has been this year all the way through nationals. Both are terrific kids and dynamite wrestlers. In Schoolboy, Sam Brancale and Tommy Thorn showed how tough it is to win a triple crown and Trom and Kingsley showed how good Schoolboy's can be!

I have a whole new perspective and respect for those who do triple crown. Great weekend of wrestling!

The kids you mentioned are the best, no doubt. Their accomplishments should be recognized. However, look at the list of names that won two of the three or one or did not win a style but placed high in all three!!! That list reinforces how tough it is to win all three.

Sam Anderson works as hard as any kid I know...got to know his dad and him through Pinnacle..they travel around the nation looking for the best competition..its not Sam's fault there were no kids...I don't think it should tarnish his accomplishment.

Congratulations Sam from Coon Rapids and the Chmilowsky clan....job well done!!

Wasnt trying to hurt anyones feelings i am sure Sam and BO are great kids sorry if you misinterpreted my statement!

I know Sam wrestled up a weight at gopher state and got second place very awesome wrestler it is a shame that larger kids cant get any matches silly rules !

it has been my war cry all year and i still am not over it you drive 2 hours and nobody to wrestle it is silly we went to 3 qualifiers and got 5 matches total how is
my son to get live wrestling experience when there is no one to wrestle.

imagine how great Sam could be if he had more competion!!!

I think it should be noted that Sam Anderson won the prestigious "Tournament of Champions" in Ohio a week ago!!! He was the only kid there from Minnesota. Here are the results:

Midget 110
Place Name Home Town
1 Sam Anderson East Bethel, MN
2 Chris Araneo Stonybrook, NY
3 Austin Potter Troy, MI
4 Billy Korber West Newton, PA
5 Bryane Briggs Niagara Falls, NY
6 Jonathon Racheter Carey, OH
7 Philip Coutch Lower Burrell, PA
7 Anthony Neal Sturgis, MI

Also, here is the link to the results page:

http://www.ohiotofc.com/results.php?year=2008

Maybe Sam didn't have anyone at State because he was there.....? LOL! Just a thought.

Congratulations Sam!!

There was a 6th grade schoolboy who weighed in at 120.2...He HAD to wrestle 128. Not 120.
There was a cadet who weighed in at 105.1 he HAD to wrestle 112. Not 105.
There was another cadet who weighed in at 84.9 and HAD to wrestle 91 not 84, Greco, came back the next day and made 84.0 for Freestyle....going up 5-7 lbs (or more) is very tough if you miss weight by a few ounces...

Every single year kids miss weight by ounces. The rules are crystal clear...if you want to register for 95 you MUST weigh 95.0 or less, not 95.1...if you do, you are up a weight class. To be safe, I would suggest being a 1/2 lb under to allow for scale variences...

Personally I LOVE this rule...wieght allowances never made any sence to me (NYWA)

At least MNUSA and USA tourneys let you wrestle if you miss weight. Tulsa scratches you from the tourney completely! And every year I see kids who miss weight there. Imagine driving 12 hours and missing weight? Plus you have to register about 2 weeks in advance...

If you weigh more than the weight class limit, you have to bump up to the next weight class. So, if you weigh 98.2 and you registered for the 95 weight class (95 is the upper weight limit), you have to bump up to the 103 weight class (95.1 - 103 lbs).

so 103lb is the maximum weight i guess i thought it was the minimum weight
so the 103lb bracket is from 95lbs to 103lbs correct

The weight listed is the maximum weight. So, the 103 weight bracket is 95.1 - 103.
