Blainefan, are you sure your wrestler signed up for the tournament? Perhaps the boy wasn't available to wrestle that weekend. I don't know the coaches personally, but I do know their goal was to put the best team available together. I would think with the selection criteria and the results being public knowledge, these guys don't have much choice other than to go down the list of place winners who have indicated an interest in wrestling for the tournament. Of course, better information could have been presented at the State Tournament, and I think they are aware of that (as mentioned in a previous post), but to suggest that they would not include a willing FS champion just so their son could make the team seems a stretch. Please keep in mind that Jake was a GR champion and a FS runner up. I guess if you know for a fact that the boy from Blaine was interested in participating and indicated so on a form turned in at the state tournament, then you (better yet, the boy's family) have a beef and should contact Roger Kingsley, the MN/USA Kids Director. Without that though, you might leave the innuendos off the forum. |

This is our first Goodwill duel....is the Fieldhouse usually jam packed for this event? Do the Sconie wrestling fans behave the same as the packer fans....aggressively enthusiastic? Should I bring a bottle of mace and a taser gun, or do we all usually behave? :D   :D :P |

Has anyone had luck at finding a hotel room? I called 6 in Woodbury and 3 in Hudson and had no luck. My husband might end up dropping off our son and driving back up on Saturday. |

I found a room at the Holiday Inn Express, may want to try that. I believe that the coaches want to put the best possible team together. Not everyone put their information in at the tournament, making it difficult to get a hold of everyone. When coach called we were ecstatic! They would have liked to have every State Champ at each weight, sometimes it is not possible for some to go! Good luck to all this weekend!!!! Uhmmmm....what time are weigh-ins? Before Pizza party...right? |

MN will lose on one team at 140 and on the other at 130 in the Novice division.... FF!!! Too bad we couldn't fill every weight, I hate open weights! Midgets have a good chance of blanking their competition as do the Novices except in the open weights! |

Should Joe Borst be wrestling 103 Midget at these duals? Because I believe he wrestled four matches today in the wrong division and weight!!! These results come from Wisconsin's Website, I would think Team Wisconsin would have a list of kids that are midget or novice!!! Novice - 112 Results Guaranteed Places 1st Place - Nicholas Gomez of Ringers 2nd Place - Max Peterson of Ellsworth 3rd Place - Jake Rueth of Medford 4th Place - Joe Borst of Fond du Lac 5th Place - Michael Steel of New Richmond Round Robin Matches Nicholas Gomez (Ringers) over Jake Rueth (Medford) Fall 0:50 Max Peterson (Ellsworth) over Jake Rueth (Medford) Dec 4-5,0-7 Nicholas Gomez (Ringers) over Max Peterson (Ellsworth) Dec 3-3,4-2 Don't get me wrong, this event was an awesome event for the kids that placed high at their State tournaments, and it is an extreme honor to have my boy wrestle on this elite squad. For us it was a great experience, he made some new friends, and had a chance to be with some great coaches. I know the Minnesota team has great INTEGRITY...one of those life lessons everyone should Know, and I think represented the State very well! |

In an event called "Good Will Duals" you wouldn't think it would be necessary, but it may be the appropriate time to start implementing On Site Weigh Ins next year. It may be the smart thing to do to prevent injuries. Many of the match ups were beyond the acceptable range. |

Midgets I believe went 2-2 in both Gold Team and Maroon Team. Wisconsin loaded one team with all it's State Champs, while Minnesota split its Champs evenly between the two teams. |

A big thank you to Pete and Keith for your work on this event. Not only do you deal with the set up to the event, you also get to watch 50 kids for a night. That takes a great deal of dedication to the youth of this sport. Thanks also to the coaches during the meet on Saturday. Hope to be back next year. |

Great job Pete, Keith & Coaches, This is more than just wrestling, it is building relationships & having some fun in a sport our kids love to do. My recommendation next year is to have weight-ins. There were some pretty big WI kids that were not going to make a 3 lb weight allowance. I am sure we had some MN kids as well, but for saftey issues they should be weighted before the Duals start. Have a great summer everyone! |
