We all know wrestling is a very very expensive sport. Sometimes a kid deserves to make one of the duals teams but can't afford to go. MN would be stronger if every single kid was considered on wrestling ability only, not financial status. Somehow there should be either some sort of fundraiser or scholarship fund, or a box to check when you send in your forms for duals teams that you could donate $$$ to a kid who can't afford to go. (Now there are others who could afford it but chose to spend their $ elsewhere, these are not the people I am talking about.) Some families are financially well off and would probably like to sponsor a deserving kid...some sort of application would be required to see if a kid qualifies, like they do at the HS for free/reduced lunches...a formal application. I know of a kid this year that falls into that boat...something to think about in the future. (and it is for a weight class in desperate need) Unfurtunately, I am not in a position to fund an extra kid, not by a long shot...but if the wrestling community had a scholarship fund set up....for the duals/teams and Fargo...this would be awesome. some kids with heart and potential do slip thru the cracks.... |

I would suggest that if that kid wants to go and is in finacial need, he should go to his local community wrestling boster club. Most community wrestling clubs have money in the bank and would be more than happy to sponsor or help sponsor a kid in need from thier community so they can wrestle for team Minnesota in a National Dual Tournament. Also, contact thier local Fire Dept or Lions Club, as they also have funds available and would be more than happy to help out. |

Any high school wrestler in SE Minnesota traveling to a national tournament can ask SEMWREC (SE Minnesota Wrestling Coalition) for a scholarship. We've been giving some money to any wrestler in this corner of the state that asks for 6-7 years. It's part of the reason we created this group and the Clash tournament was to be able to kick in some money to help fund kids' travel to national events. |

I always thought Booster Clubs do not are are not allowed to contribute to summer wrestling ? their purpose is to support their HIGH SCHOOL wrestling program , during the HS season- otherwise, where do they draw the line ? one kid needs money for Duals, another needs funds for going to Fargo Camp, yet another can't afford to go to HS Nationals...a booster club has to divide their money evenly, to the entire TEAM, as a whole, and not certain individuals... unless of course they have set up some sort of guidlines for a scholarship of some kind for those kids doing summer wrestling to request and apply for ? |

I believe booster clubs can only give money to wrestlers if they actually work for it...ie..cleaning ditches or something like that.. My son wrestled on the Junior Duals team last year....and he went to the local Legion club ...and they sponsored his way to the tournament and were more than happy to do so since the tournament was being sponsored by the US Marines. I think more legions would be happy to do this?? Only way to find out is to ask... |

I was thinking more of the "youth wrestling boster club". Some communities have them seperate from the high school and some have them under one umbrella. |
