This is great, the schoolboys carry on the GRECO tradition! Now to win FREESTYLE they only need to take away the Pennsylvania pin. If you can go thru.... and not get pinned - - you can win it all............ sometimes a close lose in a dual meet is better than a maybe win and - -getting pinned..............3-1 vs. 5-0..... If we can cut out those pins we can win Freestyle too! And I see the MaROON TEAM in Freestyle getting a trophy too! Again Great Job! |

I'd say the falls didn't hurt to bad this time but freestyle might be different. I seem to remember that last year kids from other states ran different kids in for freestyle... kids that were fresh. Does anyone see that happening this year? |

Check out OK... They weighed in a few kids for GR then FF almost every GR match, the 70 lber Jeffries, weighs at least 85 by now...(he FF all but 1 GR match and he is a total stud) and they have fresh kids at most weights. (and now a second team added)Also, IMO they cut harder than anyone. I wish they made kids weigh in 2x Once per style, or every day, like cadets/Jrs do, then you wouldn't see so much weigh abuse...I think OK will be our toughest competition for FS. Mn does seem to be realizing to rest kids some. (Where we can, doubled up weights, some kids bumping up etc) This should help. Wrestling 9 times in 1 day VS a fresh kid is difficult. |

Also if you look, NJ, NY, Iowa, and Ohio only use one team I think. What if we only used one team and all of those top kids as back ups? We could alternate them in greco and some freestyle and they would be fresh. I like doing it like we do giving the kids so many opportunities but it probably does hurt us a little in the end. |

I would rather send 2 teams to ALL levels, Cadet/SB/JRS both styles. We do have enough kids for back-ups, a lot of weights have 3 some 4 at them, and you spread them out, bump kids up, are smart about it, sit kids when it makes sence... example, Gold has 2 at 70, 1 at 77...77 hadn't sat at all so VS GA they sent in the 70's one at 70 the other at 77 and sat the 77. (70's were alternating so they are fresh) They have done some of that if you look hard. I would rather have our kids have the OPPORTUNITIES to wrestle these duals, the do the stupid thing OK did and blow the GR so their kids can weigh in heavy, they FF tons of stud matches, just to get huge for FS. Heck, I would rather win GR!!! We can still win FS, and if not, we will get tons of awesome wrestling in. You drop a team, 1/2 these kids sit at home. NOT worth it for the development of MN wrestling as a whole. Plus all the top teams have 2 teams...OK, PA, MI and us. |

Unfortunately team Washington lost to Oklahoma who is the te4am Maroon is wrestling right now. We have to beat Oklahoma in order to get into the Championship bracket with both teams and they are tied 3-3 after the opening matches losing the 70 pound bout in a tough one 4-2, 4-3. Is that the first loss at 70 in the tournament for Minnesota? If so, that Okie kid must be very very good. |

sam brancale and tommy thorn dominated at 77lbs. neither of them had a loss. they were barely scored on the entire tourney. most of the matchs ended with a tech fall, a pin or at least a shutout. thats awesome. lets hope these guys can get up to 103(or at least 88) next year. |
