I got the following e-mail frm Mike Schwab - Cool shirts, I'm ordering a few.

----------------------------------------------------------------
Subject: Olympic Fund Raiser

First of all, with all that has went on in this area over the last month, between floods and tornado’s, I apologize for even asking for donations, but hear goes. First of all, if you are not interested, please delete the e-mail, but do read the letter and check out the t-shirt.

For you that do not know, my youngest brother Doug (30 – assistant wrestling coach at Iowa), has qualified to represent the USA in the 2008 Olympics in China in Freestyle Wrestling at 145.5 lbs. Contrary to the letter, I will not be attending the Olympics, lots of reasons, just a decision that I have made. That being said, are trying to send some family members to China to support Doug and like anything else in life it costs money. I have not priced any flights to China, but my guess is that it is not cheap. Any funds that can be raised will defer these costs, there are also fund raising efforts going on in Osage and Iowa City.

The T-Shirts are $20.00, pretty cool shirt designed by Doug’s fiancé (wife this coming week-end), and Mark Ironside is making them at his business in Cedar Rapids at virtually no cost. The only thing is we would like the money with the order. Sizes run from Youth to 2XL, I think.

If interested please e-mail me at home, or drop me an order off at the office.

e-mail address: redsoxfan@cfu.net
Thanks for your consideration

Send your order to:

Text of full letter:

Dear Hopeful Donor:

The Olympics are the epitome of any sports competition. Individuals train at a different level separate from any other athlete. Training does not involve just conditioning and practice, training becomes a lifestyle. Those athletes sacrifice more than others to achieve their dream of reaching the most prestigious competition of them all. When this happens and the athlete is privileged enough to don our Red, White, and Blue and be able to say, “ I represent the United States of America,” those hard days of practice begin to fade away.

Doug Schwab, Osage, IA native and University of Iowa Assistant Wresting coach, is one of the few that will forever be able to proudly say, “I represented the USA at the 2008 Olympics.” Doug earned this honor by winning the 2008 Olympic Trials, but this journey started long ago. As a child Doug grew up dreaming of Olympic Gold and August 20th, 2008 he will have the opportunity to achieve that goal.

The Olympics are held in Beijing, China and more than anything Doug would like the support of his family to see him achieve his lifelong goal. We are asking for donations to make that trip possible for the family of Doug Schwab. We are trying to raise $25,000 for his wife, mother, sister and two brothers to be able to watch him capture Gold for the United States. His family has watched him train and supported him since he was little, making the goal of Olympic Gold not only his goal, but theirs as well. It is only fitting that they be there to cheer him on in his biggest competition, the one that was made possible by the sacrifices of him and his family.

We hope that you are able to help support this family’s journey and support Doug’s goal for GOLD! To learn more about Doug Schwab go to www.hawkeyesports.com. For questions or more information you can contact Allyson Schwab at allyson-campbell@uiowa.edu.

Donations can be sent to: Doug Schwab
1815 12th Avenue Unit C
Coralville, IA 52241

Thank you again for your support.

Doug Schwab and Family.
