I think section 2AA will be represented well. Just looking at the brackets there seems to be a lot of kids with nice draws! That's good to see! I hope Thursday would come faster..

Section 2AA should have a lot of placers. Not looking like a ton of champs though. The younger Parriott probably the most likely followed by Fogarty from SW because he got away from Short and Wanzek. Don't know if Zilverberg can beat Laganiere or if Hammerlund can beat Wanzek. Maybe Hartwig can make a run at it?

Talk about flying beneath the radar, what a great tournament for the 8th grader Tucker Sjomeling at 106. Hopefully he and Jewett will have a good showing at the Xcel Center. Also, a very impressive 9th grade class at 285. The upper classmen will need to step it up next year. In fact it looks like many of the weights have underclassmen which should mean 2AA will be competitive for quite a while.

How come Giles and Maruska didn't wrestle individual sections? How injured is Sirek?

I'm sure there is some history here, given the last few pages of this great, long standing thread.

However, as the father of a young varsity wrestler, I watched the 2AA Section Individual Tourney last weekend (and Team Tourney last week). Here is what I saw.

A ton of great physical battles and a lot of passion, emotion and grit.

Some surprises, as you hope to see as a fan, and some serious character development...

New Prague, Watertown, SW, Waconia, Hutch, GSL, Mankako West and commited individuals from the other schools. This section is tough!

But I also saw class. The fans know wrestling and care deeply for the programs. They cheered a tough match - even for traditional competitors.

It seemed like it was exactly what is right with MN wrestling.

From the New Prague AD's quiet confidence (after he had also won the section team championship and the gymnastics state title in the same week) to the Watertown team with a great run who probably missed sending a few kids who would otherwise place at state.

From Hutch with young stars (and losing only one senior) to Waconia, who is loaded with tough young kids.

The battles will continue to go on for years, as all these teams are young (only 7 starters will graduate this year from the Section's top 4 teams!) Plus all have amazing youth program success and commitment.

It is really cool to watch such competitive and passionate wrestling. The future for 2AA wrestling is bright.

I Hope this thread carries on with its original intent as well.

Can't wait for Thursday. Good luck.

Got slammed by Drew from Hutch. Took him to the hospital, but I think he is ok. Tough kid - he could win it next year.

No, it was not called a slam. I saw it and in my opinion it was not a slam. He did get taken down hard, but it seemed to be under control.

Donnay is okay, talked to his dad, a nerve was pinched, cutting off ability to move arm/leg on that side. He was back walking around later that evening at Sections. Drew was called for an illegal slam in an earlier match at sections, but this one looked okay, just came down really hard.

Looking at T-Stuff, I think overall 2AA was doing pretty good.

I know all 5 of SW guys made it through the first round.

19 wins and 9 losses through the first round of individuals. I think only 1 section champ of 2aa lost but the runner up in that bracket won then. It will be interesting to see how many of the 19 advance to the semi's

2AA should do really well in the individuals most of them have had to wrestle a tough road to get where they are at, tougher than some other sections. Hopefully that will set them up for success.

9 semi-finalists, 12 in need of 1 more win to place, and 7 are done. With half the field gone and section 2AA still having 21 of 28 still competing I would say it was a successful first day. Hopefully we can take home 21 pieces of hardware tomorrow!

All I can say is WOW for Tucker winning state at 106.

Congrats to Tucker and Hartwig on winning State. Way to represent 2AA

Congrats to all the other place winners from 2AA.

SW placed 5 out of 5 entered. Yeah, I am SW homer, but all their guys placing is impressive.
