No affiliation with either team here... It did look like Donney did NOT want to have his hand raised against Brownlee. Sad to finish your senior year on the outside looking in.

"If you pick a wrestler off the mat, it is your responsibility to return him safely"

Maybe Brownlee and Donnay settle it at a college match? They both have skill, but who has the heart and courage to fight on?
Settle what? Brownlee got the best of Donnay for the whole match, almost 6 full minutes.

From what I saw, Donnay should not have been albe to continue the first time the trainer was out to look at him. He will be out with a concussion and its not from the so called slam.

Does anyone have it on vidoe? Mayde a "you make the call" thread shoud be started on the guillotine.

I am also confused about the comment from the Scott West PANTHERSpride comment that says it wasn't the first time donnay has done this.
Who was the GSL wrestler that was taken out on a stretcher in the 2013 section tournament?

Not gonna name any names but I heard one of the refs is a real beech.
Bigpappa if it involved Flynn, Siegel or forgery, I have a feeling your tone would be different. Did you see this match, if you did you would understand.

1. Donnay has been having concussion problem all year.

2. Donnay used about 1:30 of injury time in the second period with concussion like issues, got cleared.

3. Donnay had a front head lock type of move on Brownlee when the "slam" happened

4. Both wrestlers came down to the mat at the same time.

5. Donnay wanted to finish the match but GSL coach said to stay down.

6. Shortly after the match Donnay was medically cleared to wrestle his next match.

In most cases the coach with the injured wrestle would have there wrestler if he is truly injured go back out blow the whistle once then blow it again so you don't put that call on the ref. it seemed like the ref afterwords knew he made the bad call but it was to late to change. Plus if your wrestler is truly injured taking that DQ would do nothing for you since you can not advance. And if Donnay or the coaches just didn't want to wrestle against Brownlee take the lose and work your way back through wrestle backs, don't try to take the easy way there.

All, before this topic gets shut down by G1, please stop.

It happened, its over, it sucks it created this situation, but the forum is not the place to slam on a kid regardless of the situation.

I agree with Jeep'n. This needs to stop. Could this be classified as bullying? Also, FYI to PANTHERSPride and .75 Nelson, a penalty point was NOT awarded last year in the semi-finals. The Hutchinson wrestler had his hand raised. Last year all under Rule 8, Section 2, Article 3. It reads "If a wrestler is accidentally injured and is unable to continue the match, the opponent shall be awarded the match by default. The current situation everyone is up in arms over falls under Rule 8, Section 2, Article 2. It is a very long rule but what it says in there is how the match was handled. I can recite it here if you wish. And as far as calling the officials JV material at best is uncalled for. Wrestling has a hard enough time finding officials for our sport. There are some that should not be working Sectional Tournaments. Give officials a break. They don't get paid enough for the abuse they take from coaches, parents and people on here. If you think you can do better, go to the MSHSL website and fill out an application. They are looking for officials. Several more are retiring this year.

Wow. 7 wrestlers in arguably the toughest section in the state. Congrats to all the wrestlers who made it out of 2AA and good luck at state.
Was the highest SW state qualifiers the 2007 non state team of 8 individuals when SW lost to N.P. / JCC ? Just aski'n?
I believe they sent 9 in 2011 and 2012.
Ok, in order to get this thread away from talking s*** and back to where it belongs, bragging, here is a list of the years Scott West has sent seven or more wrestlers to state:

1996-10
2003-9
2007-8
2009-7
2010-8
2011-10
2012-9
2014-7

It also afforded me the rare chance to quote myself, which is always a pleasure. :P

Go tigers - could you tell us how many state champs there are out of Scott West. I think this year - you have a good shot at 3. What is the accumulative state champs from Scott west? I know Michael had 2 - how and who else in the last 10 years or so.......

sounds good - I do remember Gabe Fogarty his junior year - a few years back, but cannot recall any others in recent memory - but my memory is getting bad with age.

Thanks

I just know that kids like mason brownlee put in way too much work into this sport to get screwed over the way that he did.

Larry, you're not the 2AA police.

This matter can be discussed in a civil way.

If it can be discussed in a civil way then I don't have a problem with the discussion. Up to this point I don't see a lot of what has been said as civil. Several posters have decided to bash a kid they don't know with unjustified speculation and opinions. I have know Michael for 14 years and have seen him grow into a good wrestler and an outstanding young man. I know he wanted to finish the match and he was defiantly not looking for an easy way to state. He was extremely disappointed in the way that match finished. I do feel bad for Mason but this was not Michaels fault. Anyone who believes it was is simply showing their ignorance.

The Donnay Family is one of the nicest families in all of wrestling.....I have enjoyed many matches between our sons....not to mention many great conversations with Jim! Both of these boys are very well spoken and two of the most polite kids you could ever meet! Sorry this thing has got so out of hand....Yesterday was an emotional day for everyone.....But let's let the kids settle it on the mat and leave it at that!

I can't get over how some of these ignorant wrestling fans have taken such shots at Michael Donnay. It's completely unacceptable and I hope you're all ashamed of yourselves. Grow up, you're and adult. Good luck to the rest of the wrestlers in state!

Just like gTg, I find it a bit awkward but fun to quote myself.

I have not taken any shots at anyone. I asked a question to which I did not know the answer to. I did assume, but did not know.

From what I have read, everything has been civil. I have not seen any post bashing the wrestlers, and have not seen anyone blame the wrestlers.

I have also posted what I saw from the corner of the gym that I sat in. No blame.

But once again, because you are the second one to say the kids need to settle it on the mat, I will ask again, settle what? Two people, MinterMagic and Mutant Midget, have suggested that the two boys have friction.

Scott West state champions in the last ten years, per request:

Tony Valek-2007
Gabe Fogarty-2011
Michael Kroells-2011
Michael Kroells-2012

-134 state qualifiers, including this year
-71 state place winners

Coming up on 25 years of existence, might be time to start a Hall of Fame.

You clearly weren't either. By the sounds of it Brownlees mom is the one that started this whole lobby incident. She had no right to go after another's mom saying her son faked a concussion. I also don't get why Brownlee proceeded to say "Looks like the best wrestlers go to state." He's not going and either is Donnay. I find this whole situation from that family childish. Brownlee also admitted he gave Sweeney that match. Tough to see that even though I'm not a Panther or TCU fan.
