Are you kidding, the aunt (GSL) told a seventeen year old kid "you are a disgrace to wrestling" . The TCU mother over heard that and confronted the lady. All over, until the GSL mother came after the TCU mother and started screaming at her in front of 50 people. Then the GSL mother quit after being told what her sister said to a KID. Mason DID NOT say he threw the match, and Mason DID NOT throw the match. Mason has made it to state since 8th grade. After getting knock out on a controversial call his senior year, he has to wrestle the 5th ranked wrestler at his weight. He's having the worst day of his life and you expect him to tech Sweeney??? He lost in overtime. Mason barely beat Sweeney last time. Hope Steinbauer and Sweeney place high at state! |

Looking at the brackets and match-ups I bet 10 is not far off. A few really tough quarters.

Larry, how would you feel if this happened to Michael his senior year? As just a wrestling fan and not tied to either program it just makes me sick. I always want the best kids at state from section 2aa. Just the way this whole thing went down is very disturbing. Not sure why people want this subject to go to a different thread since this happened at a 2aa section tournament and this is a 2aa thread. Just curious how would you deal with this situation if Michael got put in this situation? |

Glad to see that we aren't bashing kids and their families. I was in the lobby too and saw the whole thing and by what I took out of it, it looked like donnay's mom started it by saying that mason was a disgrace to the sport of wrestling. And mason said the best guys should go to state. Which they should. And donnay wasn't the best guy (by losing his true second match to Sweeney) |

Before you go making assumptions you should know the facts. I stood near the mother of Donnay when this all started she did not say 1 word until she over heard the "your son should not fake a concussion". That lady was sick to her stomach all day for how that match had to end! I think we need to stop making assumptions on here. Next the gsl coach did NOT say to stay down! I am not here to start anything I just hate seeing GSL get bashed for things that are not true. I have been a viewer of this forum for a long time, but to see such bashing of individuals that don't deserve it is killing me and I had to register to state the facts that I know. I was also sitting very near the mat when the match happened. I wish the best of luck to all 2aa participants in the state wrestling tournament. |

I really would like all of this to stop. This is a devastating situation. It's done. We just have to move forward. I would like to apologize to the Donnay family. A relative of Michael told my son that he was a disgrace to the sport of wrestling. My instinct was to attack the other child. That was a very poor decision on my part. He did not fake a concussion, and those words should not have come out of my mouth. I lost control because I saw the look on my son's face when that lady called him a disgrace. I truly apologize. Emotions were strong for many on Saturday. Mason has put the last 13 years of his life into wrestling. He is not a disgrace to this sport. I was actually not in the gym for the match between Mason and Michael. I got stuck for an extra day on an overnight field trip with my daughter. But I was on the phone with my sister during the match, and she reported that it appeared that Michael did want to finish the match. so again, I apologize for stating that he faked a concussion. I am upset at the ref's call because I have watched the video and it is clear that it was not an illegal slam. With that said, I do understand that there are bad calls sometimes - and we have to live with them. I do think the rules about continuing in a tournament once you show concussion-like symptoms should be reviewed. I also think that two refs should be at each match during sections. Obviously the finals matches are not the only ones that are important. Best of luck to all the 2AA state entrants. |

This will be my last post! I made a rather mean spirited post on Saturday night regarding the officiating, for that I am sorry. I did not and will not ever agree with all of their calls, but I let anger get the best of me. As I have said to the parents of the kids that I have coached, please take a 24 hour cooling off period and let the emotion of the situation sudside before acting on it! I did not follow my own advice! Good Luck Section 2AA Participants...See you at the X! As the great Rocky Balboa said in Rocky IV to the Russian crowd,"I guess what I am trying to say is, If I can change, and you can change, we can all change!! |

I was making light of this situation, and for that I am sorry. I wasn't there, so I shouldn't comment. I was just trying to divert the conversation away from the 2AA thread. It's pretty cool that it has stayed up for 5 1/2 years, and that is because people have managed to restrain themselves from talking about kids private issues. |

I think they could wrestle together all thru the year but to be fair they should have to split at Sections. :P ;) B) Or even make it more fair have Belle Plain and bplesuerhenderson co-op. Evolution can be a real beech! Edited by grand marshall, Feb 24 2014, 01:35 PM.

I am not sure why the injured son's family would be upset he had to wrestle for true second. It was a wrestling tournament. He had the opportunity, it just didn't work out. That goes for both wrestlers. Lifes misfortune is some one elses opportunity. Learn and move on. |
