Nothing shocking in first few rounds - maybe Siegle losing - but other than that, intensity goes up tomorrow!

See ya there

Why don't the wrestlers from Scott west shake hands with the other coaches like all the other teams do?

Section 2 has to be the toughest AA section in the state. Only 7 seniors advance to state out of the section. It should be even tougher next year! Congrats to all the state entrants and the best of luck. I'm sure section 2 will place well at the state level and make us proud! Delano you sure hosted a great tourney.

I Remember several years ago the high school league or coaches association or somebody(help me out here). Asked us to stop doing the extra hand shake at the end of the match. They already shake hands at the start and end of every match. I wish alll wrestlers would stop this extra handshake. SW is doing it the way it should be done.

Actually for sportsmanship reasons you are suppose to shake hands with coaches after individual bouts but not after team bouts since you shake hands with the team/ coaches after dual is over. So Scott West is not doing it right, but I'm pretty sure the coaches are telling there athletes not to shake hands for whatever reason.

A couple of years ago there was problems with kids only shaking coaches hands after they won the match and if they lost they would not shake the opposite coaches hand which I think shows worse sportsmanship. So I suppose Scott West figures all or none, and the none won.

Kemosabe, why do wrestlers shack hands with each other before and after a match? Sportsmanship is one thing the MSHSL is trying to get out of every high school athlete and shaking hands is the way you do that and that includes with coaches.

the point is that they already shake hands before and after each match, because it is good sportsmanship. More handshakes are unesscary. What other sport shakes hands more than twice? some dont ever shake hands. I dont remember seeing track athletes shaking hands at all.

I understand the wrestlers shake hands before and after a match but the wrestler does not shake hands with the coaches unless it is a dual. Which in that situation is repetitive to shake hands with the coaches again.

To answer your question cowcatcher you can go to mshsl.org website go under the sportsmanship tab then go to good sports. There are 400 high schools enrolled in the good sports program and I am not sure if any of the Scott West schools are. The MSHSL does not monitor hand shakes between coaches but wants each school to come up with a sportsmanship program. If you look at the MSHSL sportsmanship code of conduct it states hand shaking between participants and coaches at end of contest no matter what the outcome is. I'm just stating hand shaking is the best way to show sportsmanship. If you don't understand that the MSHSL main focus is sportsmanship then you obviously have not been around high school sports for long.

Hope this helps answer your question cowcatcher, I'm on my I pad right now so I can post links later from computer if your not the best at navigating around the Internet to get this information you are looking for.

Or maybe the most sport manly thing to do would be to congratulate all of the competitors on a wonderful weekend of wrestling. Thank those whoes careers are over for all they've given us fans. Wish the best of luck to those going on to state, including SW for team. All of which, has hardly been done beyond a slight few comments.
Handshakes or not, there was some great wrestling this weekend, I am greatful for the sacrifices all of these kids have made so that I can enjoy my Saturday's a bit more.
Thanks, and Good luck to all from a damn tough section. I'm sure you'll all represent well.

The reason scottwest wrestlers don't shake hands is they vote on it if they all say yes then they shake hands if one no they don't shake hands. We do everything as a team. And it seems to work. Know disrespect for anyone or any team. It's just the scottwest way.

WTH so if you have one arrogant little ... on the team they all have to be. This is the DUMBEST thing I have ever heard of. Then maybe the coaches should not except the hand shake from the other team or do they think they are the ONLY coaches that deserve credit.

Huh...Show an example of where SW disrespects other teams by not shaking the hand of a coach instead of whining about it.

Your comment is an opinion, not a fact. Thinking an opinion is a fact is what makes something a DUMB comment.

tigers, Jared and for all others concerned--

Here is a clarification in regards to the Scott West "no hand shake" after matches:

1--Numerous years ago we had some wrestlers that did shake hands and some wrestlers that did not shake hands after their matches. Sometimes those wrestlers would shake hands when they lost and sometimes they would not.

2--At the 2004 State Team Tournament, we had an opposing coach specifically request that our wrestlers not come over and shake their hands after each match. Yes, I do understand that this is a dual meet and their will be a hand shake between the teams and coaches after the meet, but with the coaches in the corner it is set up just like an individual tournament and some teams will come to the corner to shake hands and some will not.

3--It was at the start of the following year 2005 that it was clearly defined and laid out about "the handshake" and Jared was pretty much correct with his assessment...so Congratulations Jared!!! The definition was...that either all Scott West Wrestlers will go over and shake hands every time win or lose...or...no Scott West Wrestlers will go over and shake hands...the latter won out unanimously and that has been the Scott West "no hand shake" Way ever since.

4--No, we do not vote on it every year! It has been that way since 2005.

5--Finally, I do not think that Scott West is the only team in the state of Minnesota that does not do the hand shake thing after individual matches with the opposing coaches...and if we are I guess that we will continue to be that one and only team.

6--And in the name of Good Sportsmanship, Good Luck to all Section 2AA Wrestlers at the State Tournament!!!

--Coach Ripley--Scott West
