112 looks to be a deep bracket and so does 145 but 103 in this section is also very deep. Clobes, Seck, Betchwars, Elsenpeter and Hoffman just to name some in no particular order. How about up top, does this section have some guys at 189,215 and 285 that can make noise at the "X"? |

Johnny Krocak at 189 has been fun to watch. Will Jared Pawelk be back to challenge for the top nod for 2AA? |

The section definitely has some injuries it is dealing with right now. No one really has said anything about what is wrong with Natalie Rutt, Aaron Redding, Jared Pawelk and Trenton Seck? And they really don't need too. Why give away something like that? It will be interesting to see who is back for team and individual sections. We're just 16 days for the opening round and quarterfinals at the four high seed sites (Scott West, Hutchinson, Delano and Waconia is my best guess). Team Final Four two days later with individuals again at Delano, which has a very nice wrestling facility. Lots of space. As for up top LIVEWELL, heavyweight has Brandon Zabel (St. Peter) and Paul Kratzke (Mankato East), 215 has a favorite in Pat Brinkman (New Ulm) and 189 I would say Brian Broll (Waconia) and Johnny Krocak (MLLC). |

Since the seeding meeting is six days away (I believe), I thought I'd post a projection for the seedings. After tonight's match between Delano and Waconia, I think it is pretty much set. Four quarterfinal/first round hosts 1. Scott West - No. 4 team in state...enough said. 2. Hutchinson - beat Delano, New Prague, Montgomery-Lonsdale/LeCenter, St. Peter, New Ulm, Mankato East as well as Watertown-Mayer and Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie in an individual tournament. Resumes speaks for themselves. 3. Delano - may give Scott West the biggest challenge in the end. Delano lost 36-30, while Hutch fell 42-24. Still, they lost to Hutch. 4. Waconia - could move up to No. 3 with a win tonight over Delano. The Wildcats have some studs but have some holes in the middle of the lineup. 5. New Prague - if the Trojans can get healthy, they could knock off a few teams. Just haven't beaten anybody above them yet. 6. Montgomery-Lonsdale/LeCenter - they have Zach and Nate Friederich, Johnny Krocak, Zack Rutt...that is some serious talent. Could be a good 3/6 match. 7. Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran - again, some nice wrestlers, but some big holes where they give six. 8. St. Peter - beat New Ulm Jan. 9 33-31 for this spot 9. New Ulm - again, lost to St. Peter, but beat Mankato East at Hutch 10. Mankato East - lost to New Ulm and St. Peter 11. Glencoe-SL - haven't recorded a section win yet Anybody see it any other way? |

Double post With Delano handling Waconia pretty good (53-21), I believe the 3-4 seeds are now set. Of note, Seck was back at 103 for the Tigers. Pawelk was also back at 171 for the Wildcats. |

Hutchfan13, you are like an oracle. Very good takes on the team and individual outlook. Going with your top eight seeds, the quarterfinals should roll like this: West over St. Peter; Hutchinson over WMML; Delano over Montogomery-Lonsdale; and Waconia over New Prague. Depending upon the line-ups (injuries and health issues), the Waconia/New Prague tilt could go the other way. The top three seeds seem like clear favorites in the quarterfinals. What do you think? I see Scott West in a yawner in its semifinals and Delano beating Hutch in the other. Although Delano continues to match up the best with West, I don't see the upset happening in the big one. Likewise, if Hutch slides through to the finals, I don't see it having a good shot against the faves. Your thoughts, Oracle. |

I used to work for the Oracle, Hamline's college newspaper. :) We see it the same way. It's a five-team race in my mind. Injuries/illnesses will be a big factor Feb. 21. The flip of the coin could also mean one team loses and one wins. What does everyone think about the two-day format? Personally, love the spotlight it gives to the top four. One day format makes it a long day. Plus it's nice to host a section match for those that earn a top-four seeding. |

Just to be devils advocate, let me throw in some possible wrinkles: 1) Is Hutch the #2 seed or can Delano still make a claim to that? The Hutch/Del dual ended in a tie, though criteria went Hutchs way. Lets assume that coaches view this match as a tie, would Hutch still be considered the #2 seed? 2) NP wrestles WML next tues, if WML can pull out a win, would that make WML the 5 seed, NP 6 seed, MLLC 7 seed? |

Slow day, so I'll throw my two cents in. 1. It's not a tie. It was 36-35 technically. The two teams are a toss up. Could've gone either way at 171 with Bohler and Schlueter. Delano may say we didn't have Seck or someone else, but Hutch could say they were missing a wrestler too. 2 wrestles 3 in the semis, so if I was a coach, I'd go with head-to-head matches and let them decide it Feb. 21 (if they make it there). 2. If they seed next Wednesday, I would hope coaches look out for that Watertown/ML-New Prague matchup. |
