Brownlee defeated Thompson 11-2
Friederich defeated Rydell 6-3
Super Mario pinned Dettmer
Thanks for the update! Good win for Zach, and sounds like it would have been a fun dual to watch!
It was a fun one. What happened with New Prague?

Eric Madsen should be in the mix at 119....Think he wrestled against Sibley East tonight after being out all season with a knee injury? Any results from his match?

Team Seedings

1. SW
2. Watertown
3. New Ulm
4. Delano
5. Hutchinson
6. St Peter
7. New Prague
8. Waconia
Hutch beat New Ulm 47-21....

Here is how I see it:
1. Scott West
2. WM/ML
3. Delano (beat Hutch, Wac, GSL - lost to WM/ML)
4. Hutch (beat NU, ME, NP, MLLC and WM/ML twice at ind. tourneys - lost to SW, Del)
5. New Ulm (beat STP, ME - lost to Hutch, SW)
6. St. Peter (beat NP, ME)
7. New Prague (beat Wac)
8. Waconia (beat GSL)
9. GSL/LP (beat MLLC)
10. MLLC
11. Mankato East

The only think that doesn't work with this is MLLC beat St. Peter tonight. But they lost to GSL and in my mind that drops them.

Eric told me Tuesday that he will not be wrestling this season. He was in wind pants today, but he did not wrestle. That was Chris Schmidt, who has wrestled very nicely after placing fourth at Ninth Grade League last weekend. He lost to the younger Bates 7-5.

No. 10 Brad Wiest of SE went down with a knee injury in a match with Jordan Hansen. Apparently his kneecap shifted (that just sounds horrible).

Natalie Rutt did not make weight at 112 for New Prague. Hutchinson was also missing their 103 pounder Corey Petersen.

However, MLLC wrestled with a full roster last night and was missing a few wrestlers when they met with GSL/LP.

Bates weighed in at 112, dodged Clobes at 112 and barely beat our back-up JV 112 7-5 at 119. He wrestled 112 against NP.

It looks like the the MSHSL changed the format this year (I check the bracket format on their site to verify). All the teams will wrestle on Thursday night (instead of the 10 AM duals on Saturday). Saturday duals are at 4 PM and 6 PM as in previous years.

Thanks for the heads up and sorry for the confusion.

It was a two-day event last year as well. A couple of years ago when it was at MLLC it was a one-day event.

First and second rounds will be hosted by the top four seeds (for example, 11 vs. 6, then winner vs. 3 seed at No. 3 seed.)
This is the way they did it last year.

Anybody know why New Ulm was missing key starters at the SCC Tournament Saturday? I'm not sure the Eagles have had a full lineup for many matches this season.

New Ulm #7 is surprising. Thought they'd be no lower than the 5 seed. Unfortunately injuries have taken them by storm this year.

The only think that doesn't work with this is MLLC beat St. Peter tonight. But they lost to GSL and in my mind that drops them.
Almost got it. Just had New Ulm too high I guess. Turns out a head-to-head win over St. Peter didn't amount for much.

As for Thursday's matches:
Waconia beat GSL 50-21 back in January. I actually took that one in. The Panthers didn't have everybody, but they gave up way too many bonus points. That will have to change. I think it will be closer next time. Delwiche did not wrestle the first time, Trebesch got majored by Braunshausen and Jenson only beat Jacobs 9-6. Neither team has much chance with Scott West.

Hutch and St. Peter did not wrestle this year. My memory escapes me, but I don't believe they have wrestled each other for a few years. I haven't seen many of their results, but going off Saturday's SCC Tournament, Hutchinson is strong at weights that the Saints are not. Plus, St. Peter had open weights at 215 and 285, which is the Tigers major weakness. Rydell and Zabel at 125 and 45 are good wrestlers...but Hutch wins like 40-24.

New Prague and Mankato East did not wrestle head-to-head, but did compete in LeCenter together in January. NP was third and ME was sixth. Four Cougars finished ahead of Trojans, but since Rutt and Reinke did not wrestle, the only spots the Trojans are bested is 119 with Ricardo Fletcher and 215 with Mat Schorenberg. Trojans win. The Delano/New Prague match should be a good one. I think this will be the best quarterfinal match.

MLLC and New Ulm will be the best first round match. The Eagles are down at least three starters due to injury and four total. I'm not sure they have the depth to be much of a contender. The Coyotes really have been a much better team the past few weeks so they could pull the upset. Whoever scores more from 135-160 will win the dual. WM/ML beats whoever handily.

Others thoughts on Thursday?

I really enjoy watching teams wrestle each other for the second time in a season. It's always fun to see if they match up differently and/or see what they have learned since the last meeting.

Also a sneek preview of some possible matches comming up 1 week from now

It really helps W-M/ML Getting the #2 seed. We could possibly see a repeate of two years ago in the finals. If so and thats a IF who would be your pick? W-M/ML has been wrestling pretty well as of late. Do they match up good enough to pull out the win vs SW. Or does Hutch match up well enough to have a chance to pull it off on that side of the bracket. I'm not trying to look over anyone, remember I thought Hutch would get the #2 seed. Also we all know any team can get hot and beat another team. I see SW vs Hutch and Delano vs WM/ML in the semi finals.

i would think that you might see delwiche or celander bounce up to 140 for individuals to make it with hansen down at 135 if that where he is is all the results say he is at 140, but that is team not individuals, and i know he has beat both of them, and if they want to get by and go to state one of them is going to have to make a move, don't see any of them beating him for first.

FYI: Hansen beat Delwiche 1-0 Friday.

Does Hutch have what it takes to beat Scott West? Maybe. I don't think the Panthers are unbeatable like maybe years past. You get past Siegle and there isn't a dominant wrestler until Kroells. No real major holes, but there's no Kivel anymore. That's where Hutchinson is best - 130-171 - in my mind.

Here is how it went the first time (46-19) - 103: Luke Zilverberg (SW) maj Tyler Karl 16-3 ... 112: Luke Betchwars (SW) maj Corey Peterson 14-6 ... 119: Nick Clobes (H) pin Phillip Dvorak 1:36 ... 125: Luke Fogarty (SW) pin Tyler Becker 1:28 ... 130: Tyler Zilverberg (SW) pin Brett Allex 1:54 ... 135: Jake Siegle (SW) maj Bobby Rasmussen 13-0 ... 140: Jordan Hansen (H) pin Patrick Dvorak 4:53 ... 145: Mark Dvorak (SW) maj Josh Mellies 11-1 ... 152: Nick Dvorak (SW) dec Anthony Settergren 8-6 ... 160: Paul Dvorak (SW) dec Mason Anderson 3-2 ... 171: Mike Schlueter (H) dec Zach Dvorak 9-3 ... 189: Kyle White (H) maj Michael Riker 13-1 ... 215: T. Fricke (SW) pin Dalton Benage 1:20 ... Hwt: Travis Hentges (SW) pin Josh Piepmeier 1:24.

Peterson would be at 103 with Clobes wrestling Betchwars at 112 and Chris Schmidt (who just beat Mitchell Hartwig big time Friday) at 119. I think Hutch would trail 13-9 after 130 pounds (if Scott West wrestled the same way). Hansen vs Siegle. Probably. That match could swing things. A win and the Tigers might lead things heading into 189 where they would give up 18 straight points and lose anyways.

I think it would be closer, but my belief is the only team with a chance is WM/ML. Fleming beats a SW stud at 125. Stadnick, Poikonen and White would all be wins and Neaton and Kroells would be awesome. It would come down to other guys in their lineup (Sweeney, Elsenpeter, etc) stepping up and pulling off an upset or two.

What makes SW a tough dual team is not necessarly the studs. Grant it, the studs get thier wins and come up big for them, but it always seems to be the other guy who step out on the mat and makes a big team contribution. Maybe its not with a win, but maybe they limit the other teams stud to few or no bonus points.

SW wrestling room has consistently done this over the years and the coaches also seem to have a good idea as to whom to match up with who and comming up with a game plan for that wrestler. The names and faces have change each year, but the results seemed to be very consistent.

Hate to admit it, but BigPoppa was right when he said to me three years ago, "SW just reloads"

i would think that you might see delwiche or celander bounce up to 140 for individuals to make it with hansen down at 135 if that where he is is all the results say he is at 140, but that is team not individuals, and i know he has beat both of them, and if they want to get by and go to state one of them is going to have to make a move, don't see any of them beating him for first.

Pretty sure Mark Dvorak wasn't in the line-up.
