Hats off to Coach Traen for finding a way to beat Hutch/BLHS. If they wrestle straight up (with Ernst at heavyweight), the Tigers win. Hutch/BLHS got what they wanted and then starting at 160 it went WM/ML's way.

The Royals did a nice job picking up extra points in the final seconds at 112 and 160 and Joe Reinert really took it to Corey Petersen (11-1) at 135 pounds. Reinert got a late nearfall to win 8-5 on Feb. 1.

It seemed like the Royals were ready for the matchups even before they started. They did their homework. Traen frustrated Madson and it took a late takedown for him to get the pin. Ben Hillmann didn't do a darn thing and it looked like that was the plan. They knew Kyle White is weakest on his feet and they played right into that. Should Hillmann been have been called 15 times for stalling? Yes. But he wasn't and that's smart wrestling (he didn't score a point in two matches with White and then again with a JV wrestler against Scott West).

Piepmeier beats Torres or Burns or Ernst, so it was a great move to bump Neaton up. Again, he didn't do anything but gain an escape in the second period and then ride Piepmeier who is best on top and not on the bottom. Like I said, great coaching by WM/ML to reach the finals.

Congrats on Scott West. What a team. Represent Section 2 well. Now let's gear up for individuals.

I'd say Hillman (Who weighs in light) did everything he wanted to do. He kept it close. Thus giving him a opportunity to be in both of his matches till the end. Neaton definitely pushed the pace against Piepmeier and Seeing that Neaton road him out. (witch takes a lot when giving up big weight) I'd say he did a lot against a much bigger wrestler. And I think it started at 152.

It's a good thing I'm not a betting man, because I'd put my money on Hutch/BLHS. WM/ML fooled me as well

I think either Nick Dvorak or Matt White won't make it out of the 160-pound bracket. Mueller of New Prague and Gallus of Delano are also solid wrestlers, so I think you have six guys that could make a run next week. Watch out for Tanner McLain from St. Peter.

Westerlund and Elsenpeter could be a fun semis match at 103. I also will be curious to watch Linn and Arroyo at 215.

Betchwars already beat elsenpeter this year. From what I heard betchwars dominated the match and the score didn't reflect the match. With that I would say betchwars gets the 1 seed and if he faces either one in the finals his opponent will have just wrestled a very tough semifinal match.

I think Zilverberg will be at 112 for individuals, he has wrestled there alot of the year.
Siegle/Betchwars at 103 whoever wins the spot. Not sure Siegle is big enough for 119.

Ricardo Fletcher could be an upset at 119 if he wrestles there.

Finally getting around to looking at the video I shot yesterday. I know Hutch/BLHS fans were upset by Erickson's escape given to Neaton and then quick takedown by Piepmeier that was waved off about two seconds after he motioned one and then two. But after watching the match, Piepmeier never let go of the leg and never lost control. While it was confusing that he made the call and then waited so long to wave it off...it was the right call.

Then again, Erickson still thought it was 2-2 and called for a minute on the clock at the end of regulation before he realized Neaton was celebrating and looked up at the scoreboard. By putting up a one, it looked like he was giving Piepmeier a point for an escape. That confused the crowd as much as when he told Madson to go down five seconds after he got an escape.

Let it go? I was just clarifying that the right call was made because many of the people on the Hutch side didn't think it was. Not letting it go would have been to post that the referee made the wrong call and that gave WM/ML the win. Just giving people the right details.

For Monti to win, they need to win all 4 matches where neither team is ranked and three of the four at the top with bonus in two of them.

Oh, I guess your back handed complements and sideways clarifications. Seem just a little hard to comprehend as direct compliments or clarifications! Anyway we where both a bit off in the outcome of the last match. That's why I never bet!!!

I guess I was paying attention to the Hutch/BLHS and WM/ML match and heard Pesch wrestled in the finals. Well, whoever wrestles from Scott West, they should be the No. 2 seed.

I think Rasmussen will wrestle off and beat Jordahl for 145 (I bet he would have had five or six more wins if he wrestled more at 145 this year - he faced 9 or 10 ranked wrestlers this season and gave up back points only once to a Eden Prairie wrestler). He doesn't have the offense to stay with Delwiche, Siegle or Braunshausen. He lost to Pesch something like 5-3 early in the season and Tiede was pinned by Hutch's Anthony Settergren last week. If everyone stays at 140, 145 sounds like the weaker class.

4:30 p.m. I believe on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday I read on the Wright County Conference page.
