Sorry everyone. I was hoping to post updates while I was at the gym but it didn't pan out. There wasn't a Starbucks located in the hallway like some of these newer schools :)

I caught all of the semifinal matches and most of the consolation semis. Some great wrestling. Trevor Westerlund started the day with a big win over Matt Elsenpeter despite claiming of being dizzy the whole time. He fought through it. How about Matt Lloyd? I think he trailed in just about every match and comes back after a first-round loss to make state. He was down 8-2 to Hutch/BLHS' Luke Pundsack, got a late stalling and won in OT. Then wins 3 or 4 on Saturday.

I figured we'd have a sleeper out of 160. I picked Tanner McLain and he was up 2-1 on Nick Dvorak and went down in the third period but got stuck. Chris Gallus pinned Matt White and then held on against Mueller. Fun bracket.

Congrats to Kyle White and Eric Madson on their first state bids as well as Stephen Delwiche and Mitchell Hartwig from GSL/LP. Kyle and Stephen being seniors and making it is great. Hartwig wrestled a great match with Morgan Parriott in the semis and definitely took advantage of him not feeling the greatest.

Gallus beat Matt White 8-4.....It was Mueller that pinned White in :50, also pinning Luke Schmidt NU in 3:28. Great job in your prediction chart by the way on all weights. Glad you posted them.

Here is a link to free photos of the winners in each weight bracket at sections. Click on the link below. You can copy/paste/print or save any photo you like. I put the names and place won under each photo. If the link doesn't work by clicking it, just copy/paste it into the browser. Great job to all wrestlers, and good luck to all who are taking it to the next level and going to STATE !!

I was wrong Matt Lloyd actually won a pigtail match, then lost in quarter finals. I don't know this kid but you have to give him kudos to come all the way back through wrestlebacks and take true second. Thats a lot of wrestling in two days and have the match go 4 overtimes, wow. Good luck to all the 2aa kids. Soak it all in, you never know when you'll get back there!!!!

Lloyd's accomplishment says a lot about him. Whatever the reason he was in a funk and everything was falling apart but he battled back and found a way to win matches. He spent more time on the mat then anyone. Honestly, I thought he cashed in his chips and wouldn't make weight on Sat. Nice job and keep finding a way to win

You're excatly right, i don't think he will take this in a " bad way", but if he does anything at state, he's going to have to turn it up, I'm pretty sure he knows that.

119: No one

125: maybe Madison

130: Dobmeier

135: Both could be finals

140: Seigle

145: Stadnick

152: Zilverberg

160: no one

171: Rutt

189: no one

215: Kroells

I'm going to rephrase the question - who will win their first two matches on Friday and reach the semifinals?

103 - Betchwars should win the first round, but have a tough match with Manderfeld of Foley; Westerlund has three ranked kids in his quad - might not even get a second match. None
112 - Zilverberg is on a roll and could beat Brett Stolarzyk in the quarters; Retzlaff has a tough one with Jenson and even tougher one with Thomas after that. None
119 - Neither kid wins in first round; neither get a wrestleback. None
125 - No. 2, 3, 6 and 7 in Madson's quad - that isn't an easy task. Might be too much offense for him, then again, i would have said the same thing with his brother two years ago and he pinned T-G's Schuler; Brownlee should get a wrestleback. None
130 - Doesn't really pay to be the No. 1 seed sometimes! Dobmeier gets No. 4 Lynn, who jumped up three weight classes from last year. Hartwig, a tourney newcomer, gets Simley's Short, who has 13 wins. Dobmeier gets through
135 - Getting the No. 1 seed here was big. Frederich has a fairly easy run to the semis. Fogarty will have to beat No. 1 Garness in the quarters. I say both - Fogarty will be mad after losing Saturday.
140 - Siegle wrestles a below .500 wrestler then either 8/9 wrestler; Delwiche should get a wrestleback. Siegle
145 - Stadnick should have no trouble in opener, but I think Rud wins quarters; Pesch doesn't have enough matches to be ready for the big boys. None
152 - Zilverberg hasn't been the same this year. Cihak just happy to be there. None
160 - Dvorak would have to beat No. 1 Barnes; Gallus - see Cihak. None
171 - Rutt seems ready to make a move in his senior season and has a favorable draw; White gets No. 2 Brandon Pederson. Has to wrestle smart and be patient. Rutt
189 - Can Neaton beat Ryan Michaelis? Same as White, probably not enough offense. Dvorak will be a tough beat with his height. None
215 - Kroells should be a lock; Arroyo would have to beat No. 2 Gullickson. Kroells
285 - Butcher should make quarters, but would then face undefeated Hein; Kichler too green. None

I have only six 2AA wrestlers winning their first two matches on Friday - Dobmeier, Frederich, Fogarty, Siegle, Rutt and Kroells.
