130 - Doesn't really pay to be the No. 1 seed sometimes! Dobmeier gets No. 4 Lynn, who jumped up three weight classes from last year. Hartwig, a tourney newcomer, gets Simley's Short, who has 13 wins. Dobmeier gets through
135 - Getting the No. 1 seed here was big. Frederich has a fairly easy run to the semis. Fogarty will have to beat No. 1 Garness in the quarters. I say both - Fogarty will be mad after losing Saturday.
.
Too bad being on top of the bracket has nothing to do with anything. There is no number one seed in state.

I think 2AA will be well represented on the podium as well. I was looking at the first two matches for each section wrestler. There are some tough draws.

Poppa - I meant No. 1 seed from the section. With the random draw, the section champion may wrestle a tough No. 2 kid from a traditionally tough section, while the section runner-up may wrestle a champion from a weaker section. It's life. Sometimes it doesn't matter what seed you are - No. 1 or 2.

Ya have to beat everyone for the crown, so it doesn't matter who you wrestle first anyway.

Second place is the first in the line of 5 other losers.

Just kidding...I would have loved to have placed in State....heck even go to State.

Any State participant has my respect.

Our section has some very tough expeierenced wrestlers. I hope others take some of them for granted like Hutchfan13 seems to have done.

I don't take anyone for grant it. I would be happy if Section 2AA has numerous champions, but the reality is, the group isn't as experienced as you think.

Newcomers (15 of 28)
Westerlund, L. Zilverberg, Sweeney, Lloyd, Madson, Dobmeier, Hartwig, Delwiche, Cihak, Gallus, White, Z. Dvorak, Arroyo, Kichler, Butcher

Second-year state entrants (8 of 28)
Betchwars, Retzlaff, Brownlee, G. Fogarty, Stadnick, Pesch, N. Dvorak, Neaton

Third-year state entrants (5 of 28)
Z. Frederich, J. Siegle, T. Zilverberg, Rutt, Kroells

Last year Section 2AA had five wrestlers in the semifinals (Kroells, Fleming, Frederich, Hansen and Brinkman) - two in the finals (Kroells and Fleming) and one champion (Fleming). To predict six in the semifinals is about right. I'm excited to see how a few of the newcomers wrestle in their first big show most notably Madson, L. Zilverberg, Dobmeier and Westerlund. Will this be the year for veterans Frederich, Zilverberg, Siegle and Rutt to win a title? How will the group of second-year entrants fare in their second time at the X?

Should be fun. Good luck Section 2AA!!!

Many newcomers need to overcome the novelty of being at State to do well. The return enterants tend to do better their second time. Veterans ussually do well and place. I have seen this trend consistantly through the years.

Okay, I did some homework and your assessments are right on the money.

3 timers only 2 have placed 1 placed twice
2 timers only 1 placed
Fleming is the only first time entrant in recent history to win a title from 2AA (What a Freak)

Yet, trends like everything else don't always hold true. So best of luck to all our 2AA boys and remember a little mean is good for you, bad for them.

Scott West wrestlers still in it.

Semis-
135- Gabe Fogarty
140- Jake Siegle
145- Charlie Pesch
215- Michael Kroells

WB's
103-Luke Betchwars
112-Luke Zilverberg

How about Charlie Pesch? Wins 2-1 and then dominates in the quarters before getting a pin. WHAT A DAY!

What a match between Fogarty and Garness! Too bad it was in the quarters and not the semis. Fogarty, who lost 5-2 on Thursday, led 10-4 or 5 entering the third and a stalling call with three seconds left sent the match to OT. Never seen two coaches jump in the air and hug at the same time!

Very nice wins by Stadnick in triple overtime and Siegle in a tight one.

I predicted five, Section 2AA got seven in the semis. Great job!

Fogarty's win was huge!!!!!!! Garness is a great wrestler. That was almost worth the over priced admission and food.

Pesch continues to suprize anyone who does not know him as a wrestler. He has been here before.

Derek looks to be peaking at the right time... After the big win he just made happen, you have to believe he can continue to knock off anyone they put in front of him.

Good luck against Stoll...I would love to see Derek get a pin in this match.

Looks like 16 in the medal rounds. I think I counted everyone.

8 from SW
8 from a mix of the other 2AA Schools

3 in the finals
(Fogarty / Friederich part 3 tied 1-1)
(Kroells / Gullickson part 3 Michael leads 2-0)

Any predictions for the 3 finalist?

After Fogarty took down Garness, I have to give him the slightest of an edge.
My money is on Kroells. He has become even more dominant since the last time he seen Gulickson.

Who's has the best shot for 3rd?

Good luck to all the wrestlers from 2AA...

All I can say about Fogarty is WOW...With the exception of the reversal, which made remedied right away, he set the pace and controlled the match.

Congrats to him and Kroells on their state championships.

Congrats to all the 2AA place winners. You should all be proud of your accomplishments!

Congrats to Scott West for being the State AA Runner up team. Simley should go back to AAA where they belong. 2 and 1/2X more students than SW.

Congrats to Stauf and Rip for AA coaches of the year.

2AA well represented at State with 12 placing at State (as predicted).

Congrats to Mike Kroells and Gabe Fogarty as State Champions.

BTW Big Poppa 11, look back at my predictions for Hastings vs SW, KM vs SW and how many place winners SW will have. Dead on !!! I currently have the braggin rights for SW predictions. Sorry for tooting my own horn.

Found this on another thread:

Scott West is a cooperative between Jordan (enrollment 461) and Belle Plain (enrollment 442), which brings their combined enrollment to 893.

Simley comes in at 1022.

I thought Scott West was a co-op between 3 schools: Belle Plain, Jordan, and Holy Family. Add them together and you have to be getting close to Simely's enrollment.

Hmmm lets see here.
Your predictions:
SW vs. Hastings-I didnt find one
SW vs. KM-SW by 12 or less (sw won so I will give it to ya)
Placers-7 or 8 (wish wash but I will give it to ya)

My predictions
SW vs. Hastings- Right (sw won)
SW vs. KM- Right (sw won)
SW vs. Simley- Right (sw lost)

That gives me 3 right and you......two.

Lol i win

You failed to do a prediction for SW vs. Simley :). And I was closer on the KM prediction, and the Hastings prediction ;) But I have to turn in all of my black and silver so I guess you can be the new prediction king.

And I guess I could have guessed placers. But I would have said 5, I did guess champs and actually gave Scott West the benifet of the doubt in some matches. But I guess since I didnt pick all 10 Scott West wrestlers to win state that makes me a traitor?
