Since my son will be wrestling 220lbs for Delano again this year, I was looking back at last years section individual tourney. The 220lb weight class appears to be possibly the toughest weight top to bottom in 2013. If Benzkofer (28-5) is back down. Trnka (37-2), a bigger Jake Filk (21-11), Ernst (26-15) should all be back. I bet N Preston (32-10) will be 220lb this year. This group may send a few wrestlers cutting to 195 or bumping up to heavy. This should be fun to watch as we seem to have a good group of upper weights in section 2AA. Jim |

That is pretty solid for that size - but do not think it compares to what could be happening around 138 - 145 Brownlee Madsen Schmidt Zilverberg Parriott Hartwig Sweeney Fogarty Selly Ratzloff others....... |

It really will be fun. Between the top three weights there are five returning that went to state as well as several others who are also really good. If a couple of these young men can get down to 195, 2AA could potentially have six placing next year at state. And several will be back again in 2014! It will be interesting to see how they develop over the season. |

I have a hard time believing Torres jumped from 195 to heavy. I also think Sjomeling from Delano will be in the mix at 106 as he has put on quality weight this summer and won't be giving up 15 plus pounds. Jim |

I know Andrew Fogarty was above 160 at a freestyle tournament but I don't know what he weighs now. And I also heard from a friend that Dahlke was 175. Again I don't know what they are weighing now, but over the Summer they were around those weights. If they are both that big, it might be hard to get down to the weights predicted. Just adding to the info. Getting excited for all these pre-season tournaments! Got a lot of tough brackets to watch |

I think that there will be a huge through up at the heavier weights and the lower weights. Especially 106. I know that Sweeney will still be at that weight, but i think it will be a huge toss up for the 2nd place spot. |

Derek Dahlke is a junior at Scott West and Cody Lorentz is a senior at Mankato East. Derek had the misfortune to be at the same wieght as Gabe Fogarty last year and Cody was 25-10. 152 will be heavy for Mitch but I do not know if he can make 138 again. Madson, Brownlee, Fogarty, Parriott, and Schimidt all went to State last year. I may have Madson a bit heavy at 138 since he was a junior last year at 126. If Hartwig can make 138 he may be in the number 3 spot but if he is at 145 he could very well be in the fourth spot. One thing is for sure is that Hartwig will be in the mix. These estimates are very preliminary and the names are not intended to be ranks but only to project who the top three may be in a class. As I stated in an earlier post, 2AA is really loaded between 113 and 145 so depending upon how these kids grow and where they may end up at the end of the year it is anybody's guess at this time. Nevertheless, there may be some very good wrestlers staying home in March. |

Agreed. Sweeney has to be considered the favorite at 106 if he's there. Kelvington won USA state at 98 pounds, and Knutson took 2nd at USA state (lost in OT) at 105 pounds, so both will be tough! And GSL has Jewett. I don't know if he'll be 106 again, but if not, a good Donnay may be. So, should be some tough competition at 106. |

How about a Dalbec from Delano, will he fit in somewhere here?. . . . . Hard to say, all depends upon what he has been doing this summer. As a junior last year at 120 it is likely that he may be at the same weight or, if he has been lifting a lot and put on muscle, he could be at 126. But when you look at others that may be at 120 and 126, the field is really deep unless Dalbec really steps it up. Steinbauer went to state last year, Parriott and Siegle placed 2nd and 3rd at State, and Dalbec lost 0-5 to Berg at Section last February. It is really too early to tell though. At the lower weights there is always the unpredictability of an unknown or middle schooler that surprises everybody. |
