This will determine the winner of the Red pool, winner goes for the title, loser goes fro 3rd. No matter what they have represented themselves great so far.

What about Iowa?

Iowa looks tough as well, but we wouldn't have them until after we beat Illinois.

Iowa has beaten a couple of the same teams we have by similar scores. Illinois is the scary one, because they just got done SMASHING Missouri last round. It's a winnable tournament, definitely.

I like the quote from Coach Matt Clark on the front page of themat.com

“We do what we do,” said Minnesota coach Matt Clark. “Once you get into this thing, it’s a lot about depth and you can see the teams that don’t have it.

“We have experienced guys who’ve been to Fargo and to these duals. They know what it takes.”

WE DO WHAT WE DO! Minnesota Greco!!!

Good luck men. Wish I could be there.

You're one of the few then. I'm in the process of putting together some recommendations for our State Chairman to take to the leaders summitt in late August regarding this tournament. The schedule is absolutely horrible from many aspects. A logistical nightmare for the coaches and wrestlers regarding tournament start times (starting it 12 hours after Cadets get done in KC), weigh-in times (FS teams weigh-in shortly after GR finals), breaks between rounds (taking unnecessary ones which make the tournament take longer than it needs to) all combined with the ridiculous fact that the kids are wrestling on July 4th.

At least the kids are not missing school while they sit around during all the breaks, like they do when they compete for the NHSCA. The NHSCA (senior, junior folkstyle ) championships have too many breaks and only one weigh in for the several days that they compete.

It is interesting that the cadets had some 7 team brackets where the juniors have only 5 so that adds to the down time.

Do you think it is because it landed on the 4th that participation is down?

I think it might be down because participation in general is down because there are too many other opportunities. The duals use to be about the only wrestling happening in the summer.

The junior regionals are way down except for Northern Plains and Vegas. I wonder if it is because they combined too many junior regional tournaments with kid events and so instead of 4-6 mats in a school gym there are 2 mats for juniors in a large impersonal building. A lot of down time.

I was wondering the same thing. Also I wanted to know why? I understand bumping someone up if it is a good match up, that is bumping a lighter person up to face someone who is heavier but not as experienced. I don't understand bumping a lighter person up to face an experienced competitor, especially if Fargo is more important than the duals. I would think coming home injury free would be the goal if Fargo is more important.

sometimes bumping someone up is to give the other guy, who might be the only one at that weight, a much needed break - Duals is a grind, with lots of matches and sometimes they need to rest a match- many times the coaches will look for a certain matchup between certain wrestlers, so they let someone else go that round-

Illinois is just too tough in Greco. I think they run away with the title. It would have helped Iowa'sl chances if Nate Moore, St. John and Eric Thompson were wrestling and Gambrall would have made weight. But I'm not sure that would even be enough. Illinois has one heck of a greco team.

as far as resting guys, my example would be- last night, they wrestled Bergeron and saved Zillmer for today against Illinois- Zillmer is the stronger wrestler, so you rest him for today, esp. since Kansas already was forfeiting 4 weights- so you can afford to wrestle the other guy and not risk as much-

your example is good, i see they bumped up Von ohlen- but the coaches must have felt Von Ohlen was the best choice, either at 135 or at 140- as in, looking for certain matchup's, or asking a kid to go out and get a throw or a pin when your team needs to come from behind- Cole is that kind of wrestler....

Minnesota beat Iowa by a land slide in the third place match. I think it was 52 to 13. Iowa Forfeited the last three weights My guess Im not sure is that it was unwinnable for them and they should have a pretty good chance at the freestyle crown and maybe they want to rest the last three guys.

Iowa had an exceptional group of wrestlers this year and very well could be favored to win Freestyle. They will be tough to beat and if we meet them I hope it is for the title.
