they beat us pretty good but they beat everybody the same way. Minnesota 1 only loss one Duel and finished in third place. I thought that the second team also did very well wow a victory over PA. they finished 3 and 4 in the Greco part and made it to the Semifinals of Consolation. Congradulations to both teams. |

If I remember right last year PA just about swept everything, Schoolboy, Cadets, and Juniors. I don't know if I believe that they sent their best elsewhere. I did hear that Ohio sent their best down to the Disney duals however. After looking at the results I think Minnesota could easily have taken 2nd if they had been in the other bracket... That's life. |

Not true, I just got off of the phone with a coach in PA of one of the better high schools and he said most of their top kids are out at the Duals. In fact, he has two or three kids out their, of the five of his kids that began hearing yesterday from college coaches. Yesterday, was the day the kids could start hearing directly from college coaches if they are going to be high school seniors next year. |

Minnesota 1 just beat Georgia by a lopsided score. Minnesota had over 50 points to something like 13 for Georgia. Minnesota 2 beat Washington 36 to 30 forfieting 3 weights. That Minnesota 2 team has as much heart as any team ever has had. Nice job by both teams. |

PA doesn't have their best kids here at the duals according to people here. Illinois looks like the team to beat but Iowa is tough too. IL beat a tough NJ team that has Mason and Winston. David Thorn should get Ramos from Illinois in the first dual tomorrow. Ramos is like #1 in the early ratings for next year. Ramos is the boy who beat McCauley. MN could/should have beaten Kansas. Two of our wrestlers were pinned after winning the first period and winning by quite a bit in 2nd period. MN was about to get a match tech in one when the Kansas boy got a touch fall. The 2 pins made at least a 14 point swing. 10 points for KS instead of a max of 2 and 0 points for MN instead of min of 6. It's OK though since it probably worked out better for tomorrow. Mario Mason looks good. |

Yes, everyone has kids missing but the coaches and fans are saying PA is missing more than the normal amount. I don't know who the best kids are for PA, just saying what the the word is at the tournament. |

Pennsylvania did not sweep all those events last year. Last year Illinois won the Cadet Greco Duals, Junior Greco Duals and Junior Freestyle Duals. Pennsylvania won the Schoolboy Freestyle and Cadet Freestyle Duals last year. |

Sorry I ment third unfortunately Minnesota lost to New Jersey for third. Second and first place finish at Junior Duels is pretty Impressive. Nice Job Guys I would also like to congradulate the second team as well for a very Impressive tournament. In Freestyle they just had no choice to give up a lot of Forfiets but really showed heart and beat washington that had a full lineup which is quite amazing. |

dont get me wrong Minnesota did great at Junior and Cadet diuels but I would like to see an intense camp set up before the Duels. on the mat I was reading were Illinios had done this and they won. Not to compare but I know the School Boys had something resembling this at Simley and they won. The purpose of this post is Maybe give an Idea for next year not to Offend anybody. Like I was saying earlier Minnesota did very well 4 out of 5 top five finishes and one 6th place finish is very good. The second team did very well also. |

I dont think illinois has a camp before fargo though. After our camp before Fargo last year we won the National Champonship in greco. Would you rather win Duals or Fargo? |

How about both? I wouldn't think we would have to do only one or the other would we? How about an intensive camp for each? |

I have heard it costs the IL wrestlers a lot less money to go to duals vs. Fargo. For some it probably comes down to what they can afford. I don't think an intensive camp then duals, one week off, another intensive camp then Fargo would be a good idea. Guys would be physically worn out. One week off between Duals and Fargo is not really enough for those that wrestled every match at OK City. |

I don't have time right now to reply in depth but will try to do so later. I do want to point out one thing...our Junior National Training Camp (cadets as well) is not an "intensive" camp. We expect the kids to be in shape and be ready to wrestle in terms of conditioning. That camp is more of a "fine tuning/technique" camp to get them ready for Fargo. You can't have an intensive camp the week before these events. The kids would be beat up beyond belief and not be able to wrestle at their best. Greaterminnesota is pretty right on in his comments regarding there not being enough time in between the events to have intensive camps. While winning the duals is fun it is not the overall goal...performing at our best in Fargo is the goal. Last year we were the only state in the country to place top 5 in Cadets and Juniors in both Greco and Freestyle in the duals and Fargo. Again, the ONLY state in the country to do this. |

Most of these top Illinois wrestlers on the duals team also train at a private club called Overtime year round. They pay thousands a year to be able to do it too. To me spending amounts of money like this is crazy. We are fortunate in MN to have Augsburg practices for free. |

At Overtime (run by Sean Bormet) the pre-season program which is about 8 weeks long costs $900. That is the cheapest program they have. If you were going to train with them only during the FS/GR seasons you're looking at around $2000. This is just the training costs. I can't say this positively but I have heard that joining Team Monday (run by NCAA, World and Olympic Champion Kenny Monday) down in Texas is far more expensive. |

This all makes a lot of sense thanks for clearing this up. Your right coach Minnesota was the only State Team to do the well at both Fargo and the Duels and I can see Minnesota doing very well at Fargo again and not to Brag as a whole no one did as well at the Duels as Minnesota both teams Represented Minnesota with a lot of heart and pride. |

Congrats to all the Minnesota wrestlers and coaches who competed and participated on the national duals teams. You should be proud - looking through the results of the SB,Cadet and Jr duals - Minnesota was one of only 2 states who placed in the top 8 in all 6 competitions (sb,cadet, Jr duals - Greco and freestyle). We must also keep an open mind, so we can keep leading the way at the duals each year. It is a great opportunity for the MN wrestlers. One thing that stood out looking at the jr. duals results and teams is Team Illinois (Junior greco and freestyle champs) had almost a whole new team come in for freestyle. Looking at the Ill. roster greco v. freestyle they only had 4 of the same kids listed. The duals are a grind. Maybe that is one reason why they have been so successful in the past few years. Good luck to all the Minnesota wrestlers competing in Fargo!!! |

Thank God we live in MN because MANY MANY awesome athletes would be shut out cold if they had to pay those insane amounts to train. I am so thankful for the Augsburg (and other locations) FREE training for our Cadets and Jrs. What a value. I can't understand why MORE kids don't take advantage of this exceptional value. ALL of our teams placedat duals! MN 1 SB took 1st in both Jrs took 3rd and 4th and cadets placed as well. DID ANYONE else do that good overall? Even with their thousand(s) dollar training camps? |

You are dead right. The only problem is that we are in Minnesota and they have the ability to make serious money in Illinois (Chicagoland in particular) so that they can actually afford to pay those insane prices. Just a thought though. Guess they kind of go hand in hand. |

I think some posters are comparing apples to oranges. Overtime is a private club more like Pinacle and Blue Chip in MN. The prices are pretty close for all of those private clubs. They probably shouldn't be compared to MN USA Wrestling or its clubs. Illinois has regular clubs similar to Mat Bandits, Anoka, Hi-Flyers, Gladiators, etc. where the cost is similar to MN clubs. I'm not sure if there is a weekly greco/freestyle training site in Chicago area like we have in Mpls. Mpls area kids are very lucky to have that chance to get great coaching and practices. Overtime Cost: One-on-One: $100.00 per 1 hour session Group of 2-3: $60.00 per student per 1 hour session Group of 4-6: $50.00 per student per 1.5 hour session Those costs compare to Pinacle and Blue Chip The approximately $2,000 fees Overtime charges are for year-round training beyond wrestler's seasonal club or school. Again, prices are similar to Pinacle and Blue Chip. I think its great that former college wrestlers can make a living doing what they enjoy. |
