I would still like to personally see some sort of serious/technique camp before duals. I think this would better prepare our wrestlers. Especially with one on one and group technique with coaches. If they can go to Fargo camp for a week (which is supposedly non-intensive) then they should be able to go to a duals camp. Some of the kids don't even know what they're doing.... |

For some states, the Duals, are IT! Not Minnesota.... for our team the Duals is just a warm up, a practice tournament for FARGO! We have won the duals 17 times, but not with a week long camp- -we have regular weekly practices through out the state to go to. We don't have a camp that cost $800 dollars or more (Texas). We concentrate on FARGO! We keep the cost down for the wrestlers and give them a nice package when they make the team. Many states charge the wrestlers from $1200 to $1800 dollars just to go to Fargo.... not us. Do you want to add another $800 dollars to that for a Duals camp. and then more ($800 dollars) to go to Oklahomla? I think it is fine the way it is. We have had as many as 4 GRECO teams at the Duals. - - so we give more kids an opportunity to wrestle on the national level. I am afraid that next year this money/camp/gas situation will force us to just have a GRECO & FREESTYLE team that both wrestle both styles - - TWO TEAMS TOTAL - - like the Cadets do. And the cost will be higher. And less kids will then go to Camp and FARGO. Lets keep it like it is, with winning Fargo as our end-of-season goal, with a lot of wrestlers at camp and competing at FARGO. Go to Camp at Augsburg and FARGO! |

I would like to know why we should think having a camp prior to duals will add $800. The previous poster pointed out that it costs that much in Texas but this isn't Texas thank goodness. How many camps do we have that cost that much for a week around here? I also think it has been proven time and time again that MN coaches have been willing to give much of their time for free or at a discounted rate. Didn't Will Short have workouts prior to the Schoolboys dedicated just for the duals? Was the cost $800? I think they were free and open to all. I'm having a real difficult time believing that it would add much to any of the duals if they were to add camps as the schoolboys did. I wonder if coach Short wouldn't have open camps for all of the teams. By having open camps he could have kids that cannot afford to go come in for competition and Simley kids could go wrestle as well even if they weren't on the team which would benefit him in the long run. I might be wrong on some of this but I think we could get it done for a fraction of the money making that Texas apparently goes for. |

Didn't Short just have a couple practices a week for the SB's? I wouldn't really call that a camp although it was a great idea. SB's need somewhere to go so the Augsburg room stays cadets and juniors which it hasn't. That's the same as the cadets and juniors going to Augsburg 2 times a week, no different. I would want to see the duals prices kept as low as possible. Duals are really alot of fun, most probably prefer the duals. Some kids/parents will spend the money for the duals and then skip Fargo. If the price goes up you'll see more kids skip Fargo and that isn't the ultimate goal of MN wrestling. Also the cadet coachs did have a weekend 2 day camp before duals at Augsburg and there were not many there. Camp before Fargo is enough I feel. I even wish they had camp and the kids could come home a few days before they leave for Fargo. I realize it would be a little less organized that way, but a good rest before they head to nationals for a week of tough wrestling sure wouldn't hurt. |

I dont know what I started here. The purpose of my post was to possibly give an Idea. I liked the way the School boys had a few exra practices at Simley that can sometimes be the difference from a runner up finish to a championship. Our Minnesota Teams did extremely well and if you were going by a point system I think Minnesota would of came in first. |

And just something to think about for next year not taking anything away from our Junior or cadet Teams Greco and Freestyle maybe to get a few more practices in before we leave for Misouri and Oklohoma. and to reinterate this is in no way shape or form a knock against our teams they really did a wonderful Job 4 top six finishes and 4 top five finishes. Great Job. |

I agree. I've told a few people that I would love the idea of having a 3 day camp prior to leaving for the duals. It could be held somewhere in the metro so everyone has easy access. People from way up north or southern Minnesota can stay with friends on the team. I think it would help a lot with tactics and just refreshing the mind for a lot of this stuff. Some of the kids on the dual team hadn't wrestled a Greco match since Vegas. |

lets do it for sure next year I have a couple of empty bedrooms at my house. good idea. We are walking around with targets on our backs at these events. We need to bring our a game next year. Maybe have a couple of wrestle offs for team 1 and team 2 or bring a stacked team and a team for our extras to get matches. it was cool to get a chance to hang out with you and Bees |

I certainly hope it doesn't come off that I think we did poorly. I think PA was the top dog after all was said and done last year but I think MN was #1 followed closely by Illinois this year. The kids did outstanding. I think takethebite is saying what I am thinking. I'm not saying that a full fledge camp is necessary but a few hard days might win a couple extra matches. |

I'm not saying that a pre-dual camp isn't a good idea, but most of these kids are already training pretty much daily to get ready for the duals and nationals. I really didn't see any of the Junior team members that were out of shape or not ready to compete. The wrestlers that I know that were on the team see each other multiple times each week to work out together with their eye on being in top shape for both of these events. A pre-dual camp might be helpful for some of the outstate wrestlers to have access to some additional partners and to make sure the dual team coaches and the kids know what terminology they use for certain moves and to get to know all of the kids. |

I was thinking it would be more useful to give the kids a refresher on tactics and match strategy as opposed to conditioning and technique. I think we could have won some matches that we lost if we had spent a few days going over the right decisions to make at certain points in the match. Of course I'm talking about Greco, I am almost positive you were talking about freestyle so maybe that's where the difference comes in. |

Illinois does in fact have a camp before Fargo. 4-5 day Camps were also held for each team prior to the cadet and junior duals. The dual team camps have been very instrumental in getting the states best wrestlers together and getting in some good practice prior to the dual tournament. The dual camps also allows you to train with alot less volume and intensity at the fargo camp just cuz its a time to improve on wrestling and strategy. Its obviously a little too late to work on conditioning at that point. |
