EliteXC Middleweight title fight:
Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith

EliteXC Welterweight title fight:
Jake Shields vs. Nick Thompson

Thomas Denny vs. Nick Diaz
Shayna Baszler vs. Cristiane Cyborg
Jeremy Freitag vs. Anthony Ruiz

Undercard (airing on Showtime)
EliteXC Heavyweight title fight:
Antonio Silva vs. Justin Eilers
Wilson Reis vs. Brian Caraway
Rafael Feijao vs. Travis Galbraith

Few points.
1. No Kimbo=PLUS!
2. Didn't Justin Eilers used to fight in the UFC? I thought i watched him fight Vera or someone.
3. GO NICK THOMPSON! Minnesota Represent! haha
4. Lawler wins. My prediction atleast.
5. Nick Diaz, fighting in Stockton, CA could get nasty as he and his brother think they are gangsters and "throw up signs" supposedly... After the Dream incident, that almost makes me want to see if he gets into more conflict in his home town.

Lawler won and he was supposed to...you have to give Smith credit for at least making it interesting. Scott controlled the first round, but you somehow sensed he wouldn't be able to keep the pace up.

Cyborg is an incredible figther, you can definitely see she trains through CHUTE camp. Her fight against Gina "Conviction" Carano will be absolutley spectacular...women's MMA will really get a boost after these two go at it.

Although Diaz stands for everything I dislike, I somehow seem to be always cheering for him...just can't figure it out. He is such a complete fighter and is absolutely fearless...I can hardly wait until him and Noons lock horns again. Thomas Deny put on good show, this was a very entertaining fight.

I was hoping the Goat would have put on a better showing against Shields...but Shields was all over him from the get go...it will be interesting to see how Jake does going into the later rounds...it appears most of his fights seem to end in the first.

Kimbo is probably about two fights away from being exposed as a "B" level fighter...but you have to admire EliteXc for building him up....UFC might want to take the same aproach with Lesnar. The huge difference between Lesnar and Kimbo is obvious....Lesnar is talented (potential A level fighter) and has obviously paid his dues as a collegiate wrestler. Kimbo is a product of YOUTUBE, and while somewhat talented he has never been exposed to the type of talent that Lesnar has been up against.

XHD, you seem quite educated, if you don't mind, i have a few questions...?
How long till Lawler comes back to the UFC, or wont he?
Would it be smart to seperate the big Women's MMA Bout (Carano vs. Cyborg) and the next Kimbo fight, or is it not enough to bring in the bucks/viewers without Kimbo?
Diaz-Noons will be worth it. Lots of Bad Blood, maybe a post-fight brawl? (i'm hoping so... Those Diaz guys seem to get into crap no matter what...)
Also, i thought I read somewhere that Diaz "smoked himself numb" against Gomi?
Hopefully the Goat gets it together and learns from this fight... MN MMA is uprising with guys like Huerta, Thompson, Lesnar, Sherk, and Logan Clark... That is super to see. (I know i've missed a a ton of great fighters, but I dont have time to think, or ambition for the most part :P )
Also, I enjoy using parentheses whenever possible.

I would love for Lawler to come back to the UFC, but I just don't see it happening. There is such a disparity between what EliteXc and UFC pay their fighters...Lawler would be taking a huge pay cut coming back to the UFC. It would be great seeing him back in the UFC, but it won't happen until the UFC starts sweetning the pot a little.

You bring up a good topic...can two females headline a Main event...unfortunately, in my honest opinion, at this particular time the answer is no. But, having them on just prior to the next KIMBO fight will guarentee that the fight gets the exposure that it truly deserves...if these two ladies put on the type of fight they are both capable of, this could truly open the door to the main stream audience for Women's MMA. Like him or not, Kimbo has a huge following right now...it is what it is.

Diaz did test positive for marjuana, but I am not sure as to whether he it was trace or whether he tested extremely high...I watch that fight at least once a month...it is probably one of my all time favorite fights of all time. Like I said, he stands for everything I am against, but I continue to cheer for him. I just don't get it.

I was truly disappointed when the GOAT lost...he is truly better than than. It just seems like he wasn't ready to exchange with Shields....which is rather strange considering Shields is known for coming out of the gate rather quickly....Thompson will be back, I will be rooting for him every step of the way.

Yes, I heard Tito is going to EliteXC, any truth?

Women's MMA would be opened up to mainstream quite well with a fight like this before Kimbo... I dread Kimbo fights on TV, but this could be the best way to open it up.

From what i've read, the legal amount of THC is like 15, they allow up to 50(?), and he was 175? (Diaz)

Yeah, Thompson is a great fighter, hopefully he takes this in stride.

Tito and his freak wife (Yikes what the heck happened to her face) Jenna Jameson(sp) was sitting right next to Trump at the Affliction shin dig, so it looks like he will be on his way there.....but the highest bidder will get him...Tito is a businesman first fighter second.

The one thing that is easy to forget about Dana and company is that they came in purchased the UFC from SEG when it was at its absolute lowest...I watched Pedro Rizzo leg kick Dan Severn into submission on the card prior to the acquisition of the UFC(UFC 27, I believe) ....they came in a built it from the ground up with the reality TV BIT....but know its time to reward the fighters and give the them what they truly deserve...until they do, we will continue to see the best fighters abandon ship...

Which is really too bad. I give them cred for turning what was into what is, but you have to get the best talent you can(IE Fedor, Tito, and such...)
I think that until a big-time profile fighter that does like (which is why Tito isn't the case) leaves for a higher pay, fighters will take what is given, and Dana won't budge.
The Fedor case is a tough one, because he wants his whole team, or atleast his bro Aleks, under contract too. And he wants to be able to compete in Sambo?
And big money...
Crazy, but a fighter like him is a must?

Fedor equals big money fights....Dana probably gets it...but it might be too late.

UFC's current model might eliminate the need for a big ticket person. It appears the TUF series continues to thrive and serves as a way to introduce new fighters to the market. You are able to associate with these unknown TUF fighters and are compelled to to follow how they do? Kenny Florian?? Ed Herman??? Cory Hill?? I don't think anyone outside the MMA die hards(like myself) new anything about these guys prior to their TUF appearances. This is the good part of the model

This is the part that sucks.

Like I said in an earlier post, 15k should be the bare minimum these guys get.

Here are the UFC 86 salaries...

(W) Forrest Griffin - $250,000 totally deserves he put MMA on the map
(L) Quinton Jackson - $225,000 totally deserves it

(W) Patrick Cote - $32,000 respectable
(L) Ricardo Almeida - $23,000 respectable

(W) Joe Stevenson - $60,000 totally deserves it
(L) Gleison Tibau - $11,000 OMG are you serious?

(W) Josh Koscheck - $70,000 totally deserves it
(L) Chris Lytle - $14,000 (sub par for a great fighter...this is a travesty)

(W) Tyson Griffin - $40,000 should be at the 70k level
(L) Marcus Aurelio - $40,000 this is about right

(W) Gabriel Gonzaga - $100,000 Good money congratulations.
(L) Justin McCully - $5,000 (What???)

(W) Cole Miller - $20,000 about right
(L) Jorge Gurgel - $10,000 equals underpaid

(W) Melvin Guillard - $20,000 about right
(L) Dennis Siver - $7,000 OMG what?

(W) Justin Buchholz - $8,000 OMG what?
(L) Corey Hill - $8,000 OMG what?

You also have to take in consideration how much money they make on sponsors and also the cut with the pay per view buys and finally bonuses: for fight of the night, best submisson or knockout of the night that alone put an extra $30,000. Personally I like the ufc way of doing things, making the fighters earn the money. By the way, I guess afflcition is hurting after the poor number pay-per view buys. They missed breaking even by 150,000 or so.

Affliction is not hurting. Dana White wants us to believe that so he was out in the media quickly to claim they lost a bunch of money. Merv Griffin thought he could outlast Donald Trump. That didn't work out so well. Anyone who thinks they can easily out-hustle Donald Trump is someone who's about to go broke.

Here's another article F.Y.I - Tom Atencio claims, the losses were in the millions Atencio needed 250,000-300,000 buys to break even. Atencio has already stated they can’t afford losses like this on a second show. Good thing the Donald has other investments as well.
