So, here's a crazy question.

Who thinks GSP could have beat out Travis Cross for Canada's Olympic spot at 84 kg?

All he would have had to do is show up at the Canadian Olympic trials and wrestle a few matches. I think he should have gone for it!

Having not seen Cross wrestle, but seen GSP, I can't really make a choice, but GSP has amazing wrestling abilities... Anything is possible with fight like his.
Hopefully he doesn't forget and knee someone in the face during a match :)

I was watching Cross get beat in the first round of the Olympics rather handily and I just thought, "I bet GSP could beat this guy."

George St Pierre was training to compete in the 2008 Olympic trials...An injured Matt Serra though altered those plans.

Yet another reason to despise Mr. Serra.

That totally bites.

What great publicity for both wrestling and MMA that would have been.

PS If I had any more reasons to hate Matt Serra, I'd explode. :D

I can hardly wait until they put together the Matt Hughes and Matt Serrra fight...I think there is a lot of real hatred between these two guys...

GSP in the OLYMPICS would have spring boarded the sport to a new level...all that publicity at the WORLD level...it would have been priceless.

Hughes-Serra... That will be pretty sick.
Praying Hughes beats the living (BEEP) out of him.
I despise you mathew serra.

Is there any push to move Grappling into the Olympics? Would that have an effect on MMA on a WORLD level? Would guys be willing to participate?

GSP is a great Wrestler as he has dominated top tier Division I wrestlers such Fitch, Koscheck, and Hughes. The guy is a FREAK athlete, can't wait for Penn-GSP fight. It will be interesting to see if BJ can submitt GSP cause I don't see Penn wining a decision.

Their first fight was a classic; UFC 58....BJ busted up GSP's nose early in the fight....but BJ gassed in the third round giving GSP a very close and somewhat controversial split decision.

They are both different fighters now...should be a great fight.

I sure it's a 5 round fight for the welterweight championship, and BJ conditioning has improved greatly, he pushed sean shrek in their fight!

I am big Sherk supporter and it hurts me to say this....but the strategy he used was just flat out stupid....He did absolutely nothing to test Penn's hummingbird sized lung capacity...Sherk should have been tenatious with the takedown attempts and should have been prepared to pull guard and take a whoopin for the first couple of rounds....he needed to make Penn expend energy...something he didn't do in their fight.

I will flat out guarentee you that GSP will make Penn work from the get go and Penn will fold due to oxygen deprivation. This fight will not make it to the fourth round.

BJ has a terrible rep of gassing when someone pushes him...
GSP will do just that, and in result, own BJ.

He did kyokushin karate and played hockey up until 12...He had to chose between the two because his family was poor....thankfully he chose correctly. :D

I think that PENN stepped up his conditioning that’s why he did not gas against Sherk. He will step up and put STD in his place.

GSP in hockey would be crazy, man!
He'd own in any fight he got in... :)
Its no doubt PENN (is there a reason why most are capitalizing his whole name?) stepped up his conditioning, but if Sherk had pushed PENN the whole fight up till then, PENN would have gassed like usual. And now, PENN is up a weight... that could even more change his fight style cardio wise...
GSP will push him.
PENN will gas.
GSP retains the championship and PENN goes back down to LW?

....that's where you are absolutely wrong....what you will see is GSP pushing the pace for 3 rounds and penn collapsing from exhaustion at the beginning of the fourth.

Is there a reason you absolutely hate GSP?
He's one fighter that usually doesn't even get rubbed the wrong way, ever.
or is it all show and fun.?
or is it all PENN fansmanship?

I think we will see the best BJ Penn yet, If BJ want to win by a decision he will have to win the early rounds because, I don't see anybody matching GSP's conditioning! I can't see GSP stopping BJ, it's possible that BJ could end the fight early with a submission.... This going to fight of the Decade!!!! .....Unless Chuck Liddell fights Anderson Silva!

Fight Of The Decade: Lyoto Machida vs. Forrest Griffin for the title at NYE.
(rumor is its going to be Chuck if he beats Rashad... but if not... :) )

Machida will win the fight between him and Forest...and this is how it will go...

Forest will chase Machida around the ring for the entire fight trying to land "one" punch and Machido will use his Kung Fu lateral movements to evade any and all attacks. The punch count will Forest 400 thrown 0 landed...Machido will throw 2 punches and he will land both of them. Machida will win a unanimous decison and will hold the belt for 5 years....defending 12 times. And in those 12 title defenses we will witness 60 rounds of fighting with him landing 24 punches in total.

I would rather watch Kimbo fight Kenny "The Sod buster" Jay....
