Ultimate Fight Night moves inside 9/10/2008 8:25:02 AM Comments (0) By Ben Pherson Post-Bulletin, Rochester MN McMurphy's Ultimate Fight Night has moved indoors. The professional mixed-martial-arts event, scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, originally was scheduled to be held outdoors in the McMurphy's parking lot. But show promoter Jami Klair has moved the event inside the Aquarius bar. Klair has assembled a solid fight card, which includes several local standouts. The night's main event will feature former Zumbrota-Mazeppa wrestler Travis Perzynski against Frank "The Tank" Johnson for the Ultimate Combat Sports lightweight title Perzynski brings a 17-2 record into the 155-pound showdown. Johnson is 10-2 as a professional mixed martial artist. "I love this fight," Klair said. "Perzynski is just a tough all-around kid. He's a very exciting fighter." While Perzynski's background is in wrestling, Johnson's is in boxing. "He's a former pro boxer, and he's probably got the best hands of any 155-pounder in the Midwest," Klair said. "He's just got dynamite in those hands. If this fight stays standing, Johnson has to be the favorite." Also on the nine-fight card, Lake City's Jeremy Lafferty (12-7) will meet Jeremy Elisius (16-5) in a welterweight showdown. This is Klair's pick for fight of the night. "Both guys have been fighting for me since Day 1," Klair said. "They're both tough kids, and I know Lafferty has been taking this fight more serious than he's ever taken a fight. I think it's just going to be an absolutely great fight. They both want to stand up and bang, so there could be fireworks." In another welterweight clash, Rochester's Aaron Vold (11-2) will battle veteran Mark Koehn (11-1). "Koehn is a tough guy, and he'll definitely see where Vold is at in his game," Klair said. "It will be a great test for Vold." In a rubber match at light heavyweight, Rochester's Chris Barden will meet Lake City's Aric Adams. Barden and Adams met twice before, with Barden winning once and Adams winning once. Former training partners Keith Feurstneau and Ryan Stock will meet at 155 pounds. "There's bad blood there; I'm not sure why, but six months ago Keith just told me he wanted to fight Stock," Klair said. "Stock has a lot more experience, but Keith says he's ready for him." Also on the fight card are Adam Murphy, Rubin Huppert, Jason Elisius, Bruce Johnson, Tyler Knutson and Dan Copp. "One of the guys on the undercard to watch is Jason Elisius," Klair said. "He's a huge kid, even bigger than his brother (Jeremy Elisius). He says he's tougher, too." Klair is excited about the new venue, though he knows tickets will be limited. "We can maybe get 700 in there, so people will want to get tickets early," Klair said. "It's a really nice setup, and I think it will be very high-energy in that place." Doors will open at 4 p.m. and tickets are available now at McMurphy's Sports Cafe. Advance general admission tickets are $25, reserved seating is $35 and VIP tables are $350. All tickets are an extra $5 at the door. For more information, call (651) 214-3046. Seems to be a good card... Not sure if i'll be attending due to a health issue as of late, but hopefully will... anyone else? |

Will do... its still in the works for me yet... I'm unsure if its age restricted, which would suck ha. Team Crazy well represented here, I see... Interesting that Roch was going to have a card later in October with Speer on it... and now this? Interesting... |

We still have another event coming up on October 4th in Rochester. It is a mixed card of both boxing and MMA. Tom Speer is fighting in the MMA main event, and Raphael Butler is fighting in the boxing main event. Taking this fight while working on the event has been troublesome. Right now I'm still trying to get the opponent finalized for Joel Schrimf. He was a wrestler from Goodhue not too long ago. This would be the first time that he would get to fight in the Rochester area. |

Joel is 2-1 overall. I train with him at MMAA. He lost by armbar late in his first fight. Then he TKOed Prentice Wheeler with a RNC (guy went unconscious) before fighting McCullough (who is a tough third opponent for most folks. |

Thanks. I had absolutely no clue he was fighting MMA. I used to wrestle with him, and haven't talked with him in probably a year and a half or so. I just didn't know he was interested in this. Glad he is doing well. |

Parlin ... you better be there. You need to start getting jacked up for wrestling season! I think Logan, especially with all the last-minute curveballs he's been thrown, has done a fantastic job with the matchmaking for this show. Getting Reiner, who fought Anthony Johnson and Josh Burkman in the UFC, on the card is pretty cool. I'm not a huge boxing fan either, but it's interesting. The last time they did the co-promotion, I gained some respect for that sport. I've been cage-side for many MMA promotions, but never boxing. Sitting that close, it's just unreal how hard those boxers hit. The power is scary, really. Anyway, I think the MMA part of the card is worth the price of admission ... the boxing is just an added bonus. Plus, Travis Fulton is boxing. He's got more MMA fights than anyone on the planet. Not really excited to see him box, but he's going to get knocked out ... 19 of his 21 losses have come by KO or TKO! PS ... glad to see the MMA board is rolling on here. BP |

Anyone looking for a little more information than what I was able to get into the paper yesterday, check out the blog. I broke things down a little bit on there, just from info I received from Logan and a little bit of "research." Nothing big, but just some notes on the blog. FACEOFF |

Hey, no problem XHockeydad. Glad someone is reading! I get plenty of hate mail every time I write something on MMA, from people who choose not to educate themselves. But it's always good to know there are plenty of people out there who enjoy the coverage, too. |

About 34 hours and we'll be able to enjoy some top-notch fights in Roch!!! Tough to skip the free event on TV on Saturday, but it's worth it. Can't wait!!! Neer vs. Lebsock should be great. And Logan's promising a good fight from Strand against Reiner ... we'll see! Over/under on what time the PEM crew starts chanting Tom-my Spe-er??? I'm thinking before 7:30. |
